3,000 queue up for Apple’s iPhone 3GS in Singapore (with video)
Monday, July 13, 2009 - 08:55 AM EST

YouTuber Satya Saya has posted video taken moments after he got his new iPhone 3GS. Satya was 10th in line and spent 12 hours in the waiting.

"The video shows to what lengths people can go to get a hand on the iPhone 3GS," Staya says. "This queue is 2 hours before the iPhone store closed, and it is quite likely that at least 20% of them would overnight in the queue. I guess the iPhone is worth the wait!"

Isn't the pre released for O2 today? Let's see their queue.

Which is it? The video was taken right after he got his phone or two hours before the store closed? The text here seems to suggest both!

Why couldn't it be both, he got his iPhone 3GS and used it to video the line behind him, which was still 2 hrs before closing.

@roguedog

Oh people still think about the Palm Pee? Most people forgot about that one already.

This is incredible! Here's a visual representation of the bloodbath in full effect. The Palm Premie had nothing like this.

Wow! That's all I can is "Wow!"

Peace.

I've been there to Singapore.

Basically an island state (imagine a small New York city without the rest of USA). Prosperous with plenty of people with extra income. (Quite badly hit by recession though as it's export oriented. Imagine the lines if there wasn't a recession!)

High tech place. For example if you drive around you don't need to pay parking fees at many lots as payment is automatically deducted from sensors in your car. Also payment is deducted if you drive into 'congested' zones (to deter traffic jams).

Place is full of geeky types. Young (and not so young) spend endless time with their electronics.

This adoption of iPhone is very interesting and possibly significant for Apple as Apple penetration in Asia is relatively low. Plenty of PC makers selling really cheap PCs (make the 'Lauren HP laptop' look expensive) and in many Asian countries heavy import taxes on Macs as countries try to protect their local PC industries. In Asia where people didn't grow up with the Steve Jobs 'legend' the iPhone and iPod Touch might be the best advertisements Apple can have.

Forgot to mention in my post above that years ago I remember that Apple made Macs in Singapore, don't know whether they still do it or has it all moved to China? (Singapore's like 90% Chinese but not part of China).

it's nice to hear 'queue' rather than 'line'!

@Davewrite: The Apple facility in Ang Mo Kio in Singapore no longer manufactures, but it does oversee accounting, warehousing and distribution for Asia.

Size is 1.33x of New York City (including Staten Island etc). The mobile phone penetration rate exceeds 100%.

Need to shoot from atop to have an idea of the whereabouts of that queue.
