Amazon: 2008 holiday season was ‘best ever,’ Apple’s iPod touch among bestsellers

"Amazon.com Inc. said Friday that the 2008 holiday season was the online retailer's 'best ever,' with more than 6.3 million items ordered and 5.6 million units shipped during its peak day on Dec. 15," The Associated Press reports.

"Earlier this month, Barclays Capital analyst Douglas Anmuth said Amazon's competitive position has actually strengthened during the downturn, as some brick-and-mortar retailers were forced to close stores and had difficulty obtaining inventory," AP reports.

"Based on the number of items ordered, Amazon said its holiday bestsellers included the Nintendo Wii, Samsung's 52-inch LCD HDTV, the Apple iPod touch and the Blokus board game," AP reports.

The only numbers they gives are for no. of items sold? How much $$ did they make?

I can imagine it. As people are trying to save money on gifts, why not go online? Prices tend to be better, and you save the gas.

That little iPod Touch may have started as a sleeper next to its iPhone big brother, but it's turning into quite a hit. I've already got mine. I'm at an age where I rarely describe things as "cool", but the Touch is *very* cool!

They didn't give $$$ amounts just units sold.
Sure, it might be there best in terms of units - but I want to know how much they made.
Something is missing & it still doesn't smell right.

You forgot the part that says "during its peak day on Dec. 15." Something that is "ordered" is not necessarily "shipped" on the same day, especially if you use their free shipping option.

I'm with you there. I've turned sixty and am not easily impressed, but I love my 32 GB touch.

This device is not 'going to be' a huge hit. It already is.
It's been topping the mp3 best-seller charts at Best Buy as well - for many weeks.
