Very nice! Now how does this work?

May 22, 06 - 10:09 am Comment from: typhoon

the way it works is hat you buy from them and then never get the rebate. do a google search and find out about this scam.
my sister bought an iBook in December and never got the rebate, even though everything was done online.

I wish MDN would STOP using this stupid IntelliTXT stuff. It's made for Dell's running IE not Macs running Safari.

Anyone know how to turn it off???

May 22, 06 - 10:14 am Comment from: Big Al

Rebate scams.

I knew that Windows users had to add these to their list of BS they have to put up with.

I had no idea Mac users suffered from them.

May 22, 06 - 10:17 am Comment from: Big Al

Turn off IntelliTXT by using Safari 1.0

I know, large price to pay.

May 22, 06 - 10:49 am Comment from: Rob Nash

Use pithelmet, that'll get rid of that nasty IntelliTXT shite! and a few banner ads to boot smile

You can turn IntelliTXT off by unchecking the <b>Enable Javascript</b> check box in your Safari "Security" preferences.

I got my printer rebate (through Apple Store) within 10 days after I mailed it in.

May 22, 06 - 12:32 pm Comment from: JadisOne

The only thing about the rebate is that you don't know when you'll get your computer. The Apple stores have plenty in stock.

Anyone know how to turn it off???

The true power user way to turn it off is to edit your /etc/hosts file and to include the following line at the end of the file:

0.0.0.0macdailynews.us.intellitxt.com

Note that this is a normally hidden file so you will have to "find" it to edit it. For an editor, I use TextWrangler (free, get it at http://www.barebones.com/ ) which handles hidden files well (special entry on the "File" menu).

Do this, and it will be like MDN never started with those ads. Then you don't need to muck with other software, changing Safari settings, etc.

Make that:

0.0.0.0 macdailynews.us.intellitxt.com

My <tab> character got lost in posting.

Eitehr a <tab> of <space. character should work.

Good luck with it!

GOOD LUCK GETTING THE REBATE.
WE NEVER GOT OURS FOR OS10.4.

May 22, 06 - 03:51 pm Comment from: rdbvideo

We looked into this..

The rebate deadline is a month before the promised ship date.
It would take time travel to get the UPC code to them on time.

shut eye
