Analyst estimates up to 2.2 million Apple Macs sold this quarter
Friday, October 19, 2007 - 08:58 AM EST "One of the season's most-anticipated tech earnings reports is set to be delivered Monday when Apple Inc. gives its fiscal-fourth quarter results amid high expectations for Macintosh sales and new insights into the market reception of the iconic iPhone," Rex Crum reports for MarketWatch."The latest PC sales figures from technology research firm Gartner Inc. also suggest that the Mac has been gaining ground in the market. Gartner said that during the third quarter, Apple shipped 1.34 million Macs in the U.S., which was good enough for 8.1% of the market and third place behind Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc. Gartner said Apple's shipments rose more than 37% from the same period a year ago," Crum reports.
"Gene Munster, of Piper Jaffray, said he expects Apple to reports Mac sales of between 2.1 million and 2.2 million units for the quarter," Crum reports. "Munster also said that he believes Apple had a bigger back-to-school month in August that the same month last year because 'the Mac platform is gaining shares in the education market and the new Macs released on August 7 helped drive Mac sales in the quarter.'"
