Analyst expects Apple ‘special event’ this September to launch new iPod and MacBook lines
Wednesday, August 06, 2008 - 03:17 PM EDT

"Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster believes it's only a matter of time before Apple reveals plans to hold a special event next month to usher in a new array of iPods and Mac notebooks," Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.

"The Cupertino-based company has used a September gathering to launch new iPods for the past three years, Munster advised clients in a research report Wednesday, adding that Apple shares have risen about 4 percent on average from the week before those events to the week after," Marsal reports. "Historically, shares have risen more than 47 percent between the week before those events to the four months after, he said."

Marsal reports, "At this year's event, Munster is expecting Apple to refresh its iPod family through a number of 'pricing and capacity changes.' ...Sharing the stage with new iPods will be a complete overhaul of the company's mainstream notebook families, Munster believes."

Ooooouuu..... I would have never thought the Cupertino based company would be bringing out new products any time soon. Or refresh its iPod or MacBook line....

We must be very thankful for these analysts.

Oh nooo... more gorgeousness to part me from my hard earned cash... wink

It's Zune Tang's brother - Zune Tang Lite (2000 Home Pro Ultimate Edition v4.5) - apparently. You should also be able to tell by the ridiculous number of stickers all over him, especially the holographic 'XP Certified' stickier on his forehead, too.

I wonder if Apple will debut a MultiTouch iMac, at this event?

Aug 06, 08 - 04:08 pm Comment from: Mac+

Apple products transition is about multi-touch at affordable price points. So expect:

1) Multi-touch keyboard to go with every Apple desktops
2) New laptop line... all of them shaped as Macbook Air and
3) The Macbook Touch... same features as MBA + Touch keyboard
4) Refreshed iPod line... with multi-touch all over, virtual click wheel (except for the shuffle)

Aug 06, 08 - 04:15 pm Comment from: Not That Steve

Are they still even manufacturing Zunes?

Aug 06, 08 - 04:16 pm Comment from: Andy

@Mac+

I dare Apple to call the revamped MacBook Pro the 'MacBook AirTouch Pro' and have people confuse it for a pair of Nike sneakers!

Aug 06, 08 - 04:21 pm Comment from: @ Andy

You could even scare the US president with a Macbook Pro Air Force One !!! The iPod Sneaker Plane wink

Aug 06, 08 - 04:30 pm Comment from: i want my iTele

I know what it's going to be. Apple no longer needs to focus on the iPods or MacBooks since they have something special in the making. That September event will be the launch of the iTele. Finally, a true teleportation system for the masses.

Apple LISTEN UP!!!

If you offer glossy only screen option instead of a choice of either matte or glossy, you can kiss my (and a lot of professional computer users) a$$ GOODBYE!!

Glossy screens are a gimmick to draw the ignorant buyers into a impulsive buy, but the majority of us SEASONED USERS WOULDN'T BE CAUGHT DEAD USING A GLOSSY SCREEN.

Don't believe me? Google "matte vs glossy screens" and read the results of all the online polls yourself. Matte screens are OVERWHELMINGLY PREFERED OVER GLOSSY!!

I have said my piece, hope Apple listens because I have not purchased a Mac for any friends or family because there are only glossy options.

Please listen Apple. From a MacHead from the 512k days.

MDN might as well just change their name to the "Apple Insider" link page." It seems like 90% of the "stories" on MDN are links to their stuff.

What I truly would love to see Apple introduce a "Super Dock" for the iPhone/iPod Touch that would extend these devices to include the feature set of the Apple TV along with wireless USB to allow users to dock their iPhone/Touch to the TV and use a wireless controller for computer-like activities. Gates suggested at D5 that the personal computer will always have a roll in the future, but I think the process of miniaturization such as what has happened with the release of the MacMini (which initially had mysterious iPod dock connector) could possibly resurface as an extremely miniaturized docking station for the iPhone that would provide unprecedented capabilities, especially if the dock is a computer in it's own right.

Wireless connectivity to Wii -style remotes and full HD resolution support of iPhone games, streamed content from other systems in the network or remotely from friends who have given authority such as read only photos and playlists in a manner akin to the Apple TV would further differentiate Apple's products from the competition.

Aug 06, 08 - 05:14 pm Comment from: eon

Hey, maybe the Super Dock could also included a tilt adjustable iSight in the front of it for Video Telephony and in game video chat. But it definitely would have to have an A/V connector on the back that would support an HDMI cable as well as various other audio/video cable that are in use globally. Imagine those full screen web and native apps with widgets like in the movie Strange Days or BladeRunner.

Whatever it is, after putting up with all of this iPhone crap for so long, it better be good.

Aug 06, 08 - 05:20 pm Comment from: @Raving MacHead

Matte screens suck. They just make everything look soft and diffused...

Aug 06, 08 - 05:52 pm Comment from: jbird

I sit in front of damn computer screens all day. I like my glossy screen. I dont get it..

Aug 06, 08 - 06:10 pm Comment from: Amazin1

How about a screen that can be electronically switched from gloss to matte?

Aug 06, 08 - 06:30 pm Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

jbird,

That's because you are a narcissist and enjoy looking at yourself. You'll get over that once you get older.

Geez MDN. Get rid of that friggin' Pizza Hut ad. That stinking Flash is strobing so fast you're gonna have people going into epileptic seizures.

I don't mind ads but Adobe Flash sucks more than Monica Lewinsky.

Aug 06, 08 - 10:09 pm Comment from: ragarcia

Raving Machead,

MacBook Pros come in matte.

So those the mini and the Mac Pro...

I don't get why you haven't purchased a Mac in a while...since you have plenty of non-glossy options, I mean.

Aug 07, 08 - 12:04 am Comment from: QED

Having just come off the mess that was the MobileMe launch I sincerely hope Apple takes till next January to introduce *anything* new.

Chaps, love what you do, take as long as you need to do it right.
We'll wait.

"I've said my PIECE." Why is spelling so deffacult?

Aug 07, 08 - 03:18 pm Comment from: Raving MacHead

@ ragarcia

I have a MacBook Pro with matte screen.

The reason I haven't bought Mac's for my computer newbies is because the machines they need/afford (iMac's and iBooks) don't come with matte screen options.

I've taken them to see these machines and the first thing that turns them off is the glossy screens.

Who the fsck wants to have the screen partially blocked with reflections? Especially with a laptop that one takes everywhere?

Stupid Apple. You want matte, you have to go Pro and pay for more machine than you need.

The Mini is a option, but married to a Dell monitor looks like a abortion.
