I agree 100%. There will be no "PowerBook" tomorrow. That much is certain.

Replace expect with hope

Predicting a new iMac is like predicting that your bottle of Aquafina will be contain water.

This hope of an ultraportable Mac has been going on for many moons, and I doubt we'll see one tomorrow. A 13" MacBook Pro would eat into MacBook territory (there's really not a huge difference that separates the models anyway) and the 12" PowerBook G4 was not a big seller (although I own one and love it).

I would look for a newly designed Mac Mini over an ultraportable Mac.

We all know the iMacs are coming, its now only a question of what it looks like, and whether or not its multi-touch...

I expect sunrise tomorrow, possible sunshine all day.

So what would the differences be between an 'ultraportable 13" macbook pro' and a standard 13" mackbook?

One thing I've learned about Apple predictions is to never say never.

I've gotten virtual egg on my face many times by saying that Apple would never do this, or that Apple would do that.

I would never make my livelyhood making predictions.

I too second his comment, there will definitely be no "Powerbook" tomorrow.. Oh wait they are called Macbook Pros nowadays.. geez.. need to stop eating the same old cracker :p

New iMacs for sure is the word that we got. Anything else is a guess.

OK, about tuesday:

Its a small, closed gathering. We will get the info shortly after, but with little Apple fanfare. So, why is everyone going bananas and thinking that "everything under the sun" is going to be announced.

My guess is it will be more like policy announcements, joint venture issues, that sort of thing.

We will see shortly.

Give the big PowerMac at home though any day.

So I think an ultr portable is still needed, whether it will arrive is another question.

M$ and their 3rd party cronies have already learned that a buildup of possibilities will lead to high expectation s and then disappointment if Apple doesn't pull them out of the hat. The short-term sheep day traders will remain ignorant and the long-termers will just sit and wait for 200.

The 12" PowerBook would have sold better had it been a TRUE PowerBook and not a repackaged iBook. Compared to the iBook, it wasn't a good value.

I doubt there will be a new MacBook. A new iMac is more likely.

I tend to think that because this is not going to be a big splashy media event, it's unlikely to be anything earthshattering like a completely revamped iMac or ANYthing. Updates and speed bumps. Maybe an announcement for Leopard's release?

Why doesn't Apple give away Mac OS X upgrades for free? Think about it. They make money on their computers right? Right now there are a number of people waiting to purchase a computer until 10.5 come out. Why not promise free upgrades to everyone so they can rest assured they can purchase now and still have the best experience in October?

Actually, a new price point (say, free) on dotmac could be the thing that was referenced as a potential revenue hit by the CFO...he said "product transition" I think...

I can't wait to see if they are going to update the 15" MacBook Pro at all? I was about to buy one, but thought I better wait to be sure it wasn't being replaced. I'm guessing not since it was updated not too long ago, but you never know!

i'm with the rest... no ultra powerbook. I also think that the Mac mini will see the end of its life but be reincarnated into the appleTV. That would be enough for me to finally buy one then.

The new iMacs will come; I'm glad cuz I'm being gifted one by my ladyfriend. Not sure about the ultra-thin notebook, at least not for tomorrow. I do think they're working on one, though.

The expandable headless Mac that fills the gap between the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro had a name: it was called the Cube! Only it wasn't expandable, the case cracked on some, and it was (way) over-priced at the time. Does anybody else besides me think it's extremely significant that Steve put a cube design at the entrance of the flagship Apple Store? Viva la Cube!

Oh, and Apple, don't kill the Mini; just upgrade the sucker to C2D so the entire product line is 64-bit.

On rumor section of the paper: Apple might release 10-13" MBP, new Mac Mini or Cube, 27" iMac. Steve Jobs may perform magic tricks during the keynote. Spice Girls will perform nude in Baghdad. Jimi Hendrix is alive&right;handed and Elvis never existed. Area 51 is actually a power plant that provides electricity for entire US, the "power plants" are actually weapons labs for developing steath bombers and reconnaissance aircrafts.

Who cares about the news, if the rumors are juicier?

I'm not expecting a 13" MBP tomorrow, but DAMN, would it be nice. I'm currently in the market for a new laptop in the next month or so, and I'm stuck between a nicely loaded up 13" MB or a base 15" MBP. I really would like the graphics chip in the MBP, as well as the backlit keyboard and aluminum case. But the MBP is a little larger than I would like as I want to take it to university with me each day. The 13" MB is a perfect size and weight (I know the MBP is only a couple ounces heavier, but it is physically larger), but the MB is a little underpowered for me, specifically in the graphics department.

My ideal machine would be this:

13" Macbook Pro
2.2Ghz C2D (w/800Mhz FSB)
2GB RAM
160GB HD @ 5400RPM
8x Superdrive
Dedicated graphics of some kind.
Backlit Keyboard
$1899 CAD
