Supposedly there are new low-power 3G chipsets in the pipeline somewhere. Apple may be waiting for something like that for the next iPhone.

Almost a year to wait for the next iPhone? That's an eternity in the Consumer Electronics world. I guess the iPhone is so far ahead of everything else, that it may not matter too much.

I let him know my feelings and I think so should everyone else.

This is the same kind of crap that idiot analyst Shawn Wu tried to pull last year with iPods. In late spring he speculates that updated iPods would be released in late summer. By late summer he says that Apple will miss the deadline even though the deadline was his creation.

Obviously, MDN publishes it to call attention to the idiocy contained within the report. And to entertain.

It is always better to shine a spotlight on bias and idiocy. If MDN were to just ignore it, as you suggest, they risk people mistaking lies and stupidity for truth and insight.

Now, as a matter of public record, this EE Times article's headline has now been disputed and the time frame ridiculed and others can point to this MDN article refuting it.

This is how it's supposed to work. Ignoring things doesn't work. No matter how little or how big: ask your grandparents how well ignoring Hitler worked for the world back in the late '30's - early 40's.

I had no idea the sales of iPhone were going to disrupt NAND supplies that much...isn't it almost a non factor in relation to NAND sales of nanos, itouch, Flash Zunes, all other flash based music players combined, not to mention removable drives and storage devices?

The only thing that will advance it's release earlier than Steve has said will be if some other mfg's mobile phone device begins to cut into iPhone's image as the ONE to have.

Since the current iPhone is selling very well and is due to be released in more markets in during 2008, exactly how is there going to be a reduction in the demand for NAND flash, regardless of when a new version of the iPhone is released. The current iPhone has no real competition, so Apple is not going to be in any great hurry to release version 2.0 until they have something significantly better. However, it is likely that Apple will release the current design iPhone with 16GB flash early in 2008 (since the 16GB iPod touch already exists).
