My new iMac i7 is perfect so far. Very fast, huge gorgeous screen, zippity zip, no more beach balls! Delivered Nov 27, BTO. Cramming it full of awesome playlist. Now this is living!

In this day and age, there really ought to be just one reason why I should get a desktop—StarCraft II... someday soon..

Bought my i5 in November. Awesome computer, not one screen issue.

The ONLY reason Apple exists today is rock solid products and superior customer care.

Screen flickers on new computers resulting in delivery delays could spell real trouble.

The kind of things you worry about in the post Steve Jobs era.

Translation: We're holding up shipments to fix the screen problem.

I've received one of them.

I've now read the entire story and the links. Nex,t I sold some AAPL to take some profit and may sell some more depending on how this plays out.

This situation is not good and maybe worse than we are being told.

@Gordon: I'm sorry for your receiving a cracked screen. Did you return it? And did you ever ponder that in any large production run of a product from any manufacturer, that the Law of Statistical Probability would show that even with the most stringent manufacturing, quality control, packaging and shipping standards, that defects or accidents will happen. Basically, this is God's way of saying that he hates you, and that you will burn in the fires of Hell. Or something like that.

Conclusion: Get a life!

So... how many have this problem? Anyone heard of the red ring of death on the Xbox 360? Did that stop Microsoft from selling a huge amount of them? Not that I'm say'n it's really comparable, but if you...
A. Don't know how many have this problem.
B. Can't say how easily Apple can fix it.
maybe you can freak out later, when you have facts.
What if it's .001% that have he problem. Then it's not a problem.

Ordered my 27-inch iMac with i7 quad-core CPU and 8 GB RAM on 2 November and received delivery on 18 November.

It booted right up. No cracked screen. No screen flicker. No stuck or dead pixels. In short, no problems of any kind. It has been in heavy use 7 days a week. Just what I wanted, and just what I got. Wonderful display, and it's FAST.

I love those Apple Support forums. I've bought a number of Macs over the years. If one judged their quality by the reports of complaints about every one of those Mac models, the conclusion would be that they have all been disasters. But I've never had a problem. I buy AppleCare insurance, and I've never had to submit a claim.

Same with complaints after every Apple operating system upgrade or update. Someone always reports that their computer and their life have been destroyed.

I'll hazard a guess that any shipment delays have been tied to packaging issues. That's a big piece of glass to ship, and even a small percentage of cracked glass incidents gets expensive.

Well I did take it to our local Apple warranty providers (I'm not in the US) and was basically told that nothing can be done about it because, essentially, the damage could have occurred after I received it or during shipping (the boxes it came packed in did not have a mark or dent).

Don't quite understand what the Get a life! comment has to do with this.

Incidentally, I've been a very loyal Mac user since 1985 (yes, 85 not 95) and in fact promote the Mac in a big way here, so I'm in no way anti-Apple. Quite the opposite actually.

Still working on Lich King and Ice Crown here, but D3 will force me to get a new27 iMac, no matter WHAT the wife says.

I'm on my THIRD replacement because Apple keeps sending out defective units. You twats who just wanna puff out your chest and say "Apple is the best", wake up and smell the shitstorm. The delays are happening because of replacements having to be sent out, individually, direct from the factory. And not only is the situation and Apple's silence tarnishing their brand, that huge pile of returns is definitely hurting the bottom line. I am a die hard fan but even I have trouble explaining away this massive, lengthy, stressful disappointment. Ordered in October!!

Ordered my i7 Mac Nov 30, paid an extra $33 for expedited shipping, and received it this morning (Dec 15). Perfect. Fantastic display. Very fast computer. Great mouse. No flicker, no cracks. Slightly blue for my work so I adjusted the color profile to suit. I heard the crack rumors before ordering, and they assured me if there were any problems it would be made right, which they've always done in the past. This thing is amazing in every way.

Actually I have quite a good life. When not drinking rum and coconut water on one of the many beaches in this part of the Caribbean, or enjoying Carnival revelry and partying between January and March of each year, I spend lots of free time following motor sport events locally, in the region and internationally (now that I no longer actually drive race cars as I did for many years).
