Apple, AT&T, others settle ‘visual voicemail’ lawsuit; license Klausner patents

“Klausner Technology Inc said on Monday that Apple Inc, eBay Inc and AT&T Inc have agreed to license its ‘visual voicemail’ technology and settled a lawsuit against them,” Reuters reports.

“Privately held Klausner did not disclose the financial details of the settlements or licensing deals, but said it was also in discussions with Comcast Corp and Cablevision Systems Corp about using the technology,” Reuters reports. “‘The patent litigation with Apple has been settled. The patents have been licensed to Apple,’ company founder Judah Klausner told Reuters.”

“Separate settlements and licensing deals had been reached with AT&T, the U.S. carrier for Apple’s iPhone, and with eBay and its Skype Web-cased calling service, Klausner said,” Reuters reports.

  1. I don’t care.

I just want my $30 flip iPhone and less than $20 a month cell phone bill, like my T*****phone.

Now that Moto is about to bite the dust, where do I go next for a reliable phone that just makes phone calls?

    Apple? Hello?

    Are you listening?

    Can you say “market opportunity?”

  2. Mad Mac Maniac…

    1) I don’t know!
    2) I don’t care!

By the way, the reason an iPhone is an iPhone is that it does more than make phone calls.

Your problem is that you want the cachet of having an Apple iPhone, but a) you don’t want to pay for it and b) you don’t have any need for any of Apple’s added value.

    Can you say “whining know-it-all”?

  3. @Spark

First I have heard of Jitter Bug

Is it a decent product, I have some elder family members that could benefit from that, like my 84 year old dad who scares the shit out of us, cause he leaves the phone somewhere, and doesn’t want to get up when we call

  4. There are plenty of bog-standard cell phones around. Apple are making the next best thing not a commodity item.

Now commentators are speculating that the new iPhone will breakout the device like the shuffle and nano did in 2005. Sales of 15M for 2008 are being predicted.

The senior set is exactly who the Jitterbug is explicitly marketed for.

It comes in two versions. One version has large keys and a large numeric display. Think of it as a basic home phone, in a mobile version.

The other version is even simpler. It has three buttons. One for 911 emergency service. One for a single pre-programmed number – for instance, the caregiver of the senior. And the other connects to the Jitterbug operator, who will in turn connect you to whatever other number you need.

  6. Does that Klownsner guy have any working products?
    No?
that’s the way to do it, why spend time and money developing product, come up with idea, patent it, and wait for unsuspecting companies to implement and then sue the sh* out of them

  7. Can you imagine what the world would be like if a true visionary like Steve Jobs had just patented every world dominating idea he ever had?

Can you see him just sitting back, waiting to ambush anyone who stumbled upon and developed one of his many ideas?

Would he be just as rich, living on his many licenses?

Would some things he’s responsible for never reach mass market adoption?

Would the RDF ever have happened in our lifetimes?
