Apple blasts Microsoft Windows PCs in two new ‘Get a Mac’ ads (with video)
Wednesday, April 02, 2008 - 09:47 AM EST

In two new ads now running on broadcast and cable TV networks across the U.S. and also available online, Apple blasts Microsoft's Windows Vista and the inferior horizontal integration PC model (too many cooks in the kitchen) vs. Apple's superior vertical integration Mac model (control of the whole widget):

Apple's Get a Mac "Yoga" ad featuring "Miss Guided" actress Judy Greer:

lol I love them... all these ads are classic

Apr 02, 08 - 08:54 am Comment from: Wade

Looks like some names as guest stars, too, at least, I sorta recognize them.

Apr 02, 08 - 08:54 am Comment from: anaknipedro

Apple marketing does a great job. I was excited to see the debut of the ads on American Idol last night. That was a first for me since I don't watch much TV.

Apr 02, 08 - 09:02 am Comment from: Dan

How apropos, Miss Guided.

Apr 02, 08 - 09:04 am Comment from: THE.MAC.GOD

These ads are great to the esoteric group of people like us who frequent websites like this.

For normal people, they NEED to have Mac ads like the iPhone ads. Period.
When the iPhone ads came out, you know, showing what it can do and stuff, I said to myself "Why the EFF doesn't Apple do those types of ads with the Mac?"

Who know.

Judy Greer is great in the Yoga piece. A great idea, overall. Even when drenched in Zen, you can't stand Vista.

Apr 02, 08 - 09:18 am Comment from: TowerTone

I've decided I want to date a certain yoga instructor.
I'll even let her keep her 'books' on my 'Core Duo' iMac......

Apr 02, 08 - 09:18 am Comment from: A Brit

mini,

ah Pilates!

Thanks!

Apr 02, 08 - 09:21 am Comment from: A Brit

Thanks mini.

They need to drop these ads and work on a new formula. Time to grow up I think. You don't see any ads where BMW or Merc makes fun of Ford or Vauxhall etc.

I agree with The Mac God, the ads need to be more like the iPhone ones. Or better.

Apr 02, 08 - 09:28 am Comment from: Ralph M

@THE.MAC.GOD -- Yeah, you're right, what are those guys at Apple and Chiat thinking? They should ask you. If they followed your advice, I bet Mac market share would be really climbing right now, instead of...

Ooops, Mac market share IS climbing. Radically. Huh, I guess they aren't as dumb as you think.

Meanwhile, I gotta say, I think Judy Greer is incredibly cute.

Apr 02, 08 - 09:34 am Comment from: TowerTone

Yes, Ralph
A Kitty Sanchez would be nice about now.
Wait.....

Apr 02, 08 - 09:49 am Comment from: Joop

LOL, so true

Apr 02, 08 - 10:02 am Comment from: madgunde

To the naysayers:

Yeah, Apple needs a new marketing strategy, because clearly this one isn't working. Oh wait, it is working. Sorry, you have no leg to stand on.

Apr 02, 08 - 10:02 am Comment from: Ray

Schwing!

Just my $0.02

Apr 02, 08 - 10:07 am Comment from: Spark

I saw those ads last night. The Yoga one really laid into Vista.
After last week's American Idol, I remarked to my wife that I hoped Apple would come up with some new Get a Mac commercials soon because I was pretty tired of seeing three identical MacBook Air commercials during the broadcast. Thanks for delivering, Apple!

Apr 02, 08 - 10:11 am Comment from: Mike

Best ad campaign ever. Has totally shifted mindset of the masses to think PCs are stodgy, broken crap.

Apr 02, 08 - 10:19 am Comment from: coolfactor

Those saying that Apple needs to give these up and do iPhone-like ads are delusional. These work. I was in the the pool hall the other day and when Apple's MacBook Air ad started playing on the big flatpanel screen, everyone stopped and started watching it, even though some pretended not to.

Apple's brand is strong.

Apr 02, 08 - 10:23 am Comment from: MacSheikh

Grrrrr! If i see another comment that ends with a damn "Just my $0.02"...I'd...I'd....

Nvm, love those ads too.

Just my 2¢.

Apr 02, 08 - 10:27 am Comment from: auren

The Yoga ad is flat out hilarious !!!

Apr 02, 08 - 10:40 am Comment from: Ampar

The first one is Judy Greer (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0339460/). She was great as Aunt Myra on Two and a Half Men and also as Maggie Lester, the Bearded Lady, on "My Name is Earl".

The second one is Corinne Bohrer (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001959/). She's had numerous supporting roles, TV commercials and one episode TV roles. Most recently she appeared in several episodes of "Veronica Mars".

Apr 02, 08 - 10:41 am Comment from: Al

Love the Mac adds. Love the poor image they are giving Windows PCs. Love the way they piss off Windows apologists.

As for Judy Greer, I'd tap that.

Apr 02, 08 - 11:04 am Comment from: TowerTone

Yes, Al, she puts a smell on my face, too.
Did I say smell? I meant smile.....

Apr 02, 08 - 11:06 am Comment from: anthony007

Pilates? Isn't that a Polish dumpling or something?

Apr 02, 08 - 11:18 am Comment from: SB Dude

To me these Get a Mac ads are great! They should keep them the way they are. They work very well ALONG WITH the iTunes/iPod and iPhone ads. The ads for Apple's three product groupings are works of genius and work together to further the brand.

Get a Mac - keep the brand in the mind with humor and general concepts

iTunes/iPod - relate the brand with young and cool

iPhone - show how one part of one item works easily.

You don't need to do all three for each of the items, as the ads from one of the legs support the other two by association.

So for those who want Apple to show specifics about Mac OS X on their TV commercials - they are, but via the iPhone ads.

Apr 02, 08 - 11:25 am Comment from: XLM

Say good-bye to your company, Michael. And say good-bye... ..to these!!!

Judy Greer was awesome as Kitty in Arrested Development.

Apr 02, 08 - 11:29 am Comment from: Bobsyeruncle

Is that Judy Greer in the second ad too? If not, who is it?

Apr 02, 08 - 11:30 am Comment from: Preston

These ads are getting harsher and harsher. Is it just me?

Apr 02, 08 - 11:32 am Comment from: alansky

How could anyone fault such sterling logic: BMW doesn't do it, so why should Apple?" That certainly says it all!

Apple's "I'm a Mac" ads are one of the best-known advertising campaigns in history and MacFanBoy thinks Apple needs a new formula. Brilliant!

Apr 02, 08 - 11:39 am Comment from: Ampar

To Bobsyeruncle:

Read my post six above yours.

Corinne Bohrer was also Nurse Cory Smith on "E/R" for 22 episodes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001959/).

Apr 02, 08 - 12:26 pm Comment from: Derek Currie

Hmm. The current conservative estimate is that Macs had 14% of the PC market share last quarter.

And these brilliant ads are 'not' working?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Seriously. Isn't this a great time for the computing industry? At last people have a clear choice presented clearly and precisely in front of them: Either stick with the IBM-derived non-standard hardware platform, and suffer from Windows or some form of Linux. OR 'Get A Mac' and run any operating system you like on the single most reliable, inexpensive (if you bother to consider Return On Investment and Cost Of Ownership), and often FAST (as proven on Mac laptops running Vista) PC hardware platform in history.

Oh the poor suffering trolls. "I'm MELTING, Melting, melting..."

Apr 02, 08 - 12:32 pm Comment from: Micro Me

The "Yoga" ad is great. To me, it comes a close second to "Security" (cancel or allow).

Apr 02, 08 - 01:56 pm Comment from: Think

Wife saw the yoga one and just laughed her ass off.
She is a non tech person.

Yes, they are working quite well.

Apr 02, 08 - 02:43 pm Comment from: lantzn

I liked that yoga instructor in that werewolf movie, she was brutally honest. hehe

Keep the ads, continue slamming those piece of sh&* PCs and the crap OS they run.

Apr 02, 08 - 05:24 pm Comment from: Reag-a-leg

I overheard someone talking about the new "Get a Mac" earlier today.

I thought they were saying "Yoda".

That sure ain't Yoda! By gum!

Misunderstood that one did i. Hmmm. Yes.

Apr 02, 08 - 09:10 pm Comment from: PC apologist

I would have expected another security ad to make you fanboys feel better about the MBA being hacking in 2 minutes.

Apr 02, 08 - 09:59 pm Comment from: urgal

pc apologista: Read beyond the headlines, dufus, The exploit that cracked the Air Book was prepared beforehand. The 2 mins reflects how long it took to log in & direct the machine to the pre-prepared website, not how long it took to "hack the machine". There was a WIN exploit prepared beforehand too. Unfortunately, the guys creating it hadn't reckoned on the SP1 update just in advance of Cansec West. The WIN hackers were incompetent, which goes with the territory, I suppose.

Apr 03, 08 - 02:36 am Comment from: PC apologist

@urgalI

Mmm how unfair of them. Yes I did read MDNs spirited defense of your OS. I also read that the Mac was attacked because it was the least secure of the 3.

May 08, 08 - 04:10 am Comment from: Tiz

But I want to know who the actress is in the "Genius" commercial!!!
