Apple calls Rush Limbaugh; working on his Mac issues
Friday, February 15, 2008 - 09:15 AM EST

Apple has contacted Rush Limbaugh about the Mac issues that he's been talking about this week on the most listened to radio talk show in America; heard on over 600 stations in the U.S.

Partial transcript from The Rush Limbaugh Show yesterday:

I have an announcement to make: Apple corporate called. Somebody from high up the corporate ladder at Apple Computer in California, out in Cupertino, called the office. When did you get the message? When did they call, late yesterday afternoon? All right, they called at nine o'clock this morning, very, very, very nice guy, put my IT guy in touch with them, working -- No, it was not Algore. Ha! No, Mr. Snerdley, it was not Algore. I'm not going to mention the gentleman's name because the Mac user community that hates me will start bombarding this guy. He's a west coast guy. He called about six a.m. out there and said, "I'm here now," so our IT guy is working with him. That's cool. Yes, it's official. It's not a hacker. It was official. Don't start gumming up the works. It was really true.

More from Rush Limbaugh's "Stack of Stuff" page here.

[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader "Judge Bork" for the heads up.]

MacDailyNews Take: The more Rush Limbaugh talks about Macs (even if it's about issues he's having), the better it is for Apple. Rush is planting Apple seeds. Making Apple Macs a real consideration for millions of people who might not have even thought about freeing themselves from the frustration and disappointment of Microsoft Windows is a very good thing.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:17 am Comment from: Jimbo von Winskinheimer

OK, can we please stop with the Rush stories now?

Feb 15, 08 - 09:23 am Comment from: G Spank

Yeah, all the people who spew vitriol towards Rush should be ashamed of themselves. I'm a liberal, but at least I have enough class to see him and everyone else as human beings. I guess it's called "tolerance".

Feb 15, 08 - 09:23 am Comment from: M.X.N.T.4.1

I've never heard this guy because I live in the UK, despite him being a Mac user just looking at his picture makes me thing he's no good. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but still.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:24 am Comment from: Mr. Reeee

Even a bloated and bloviating, egomaniacal and hypocritical gas-bag can play the victim card and get away with it.

Only in America™.

Jimbo, right on! Enough with the Rush tripe.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:26 am Comment from: Jacob

@Jimbo

Nope. MDN loves Rush, just as they love all things conservative. You can tell by how they used a good picture of Rush, but they use the worst possible picture of people like Gates and Ballmer, even though I'm sure there are plenty of us who hate all three.

I think you've been around here long enough to notice that whenever MDN gets the chance they will show their political bias, whether it be towards conservatives or towards Obama over Hillary. I guess it's not that unreasonable that a site which blatantly displays its pro-mac bias s[how some political bias as well.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:26 am Comment from: appleJack

Yeah, please stop with this story line. . . .I'm trying to keep my breakfast down. This is as bad as when we found out Dubya uses a Mac to look at the "Internets."

Feb 15, 08 - 09:27 am Comment from: Jay-Z

Hopefully this will help dispel some of the completely unfounded rumors about Apple having bad technical support. Apple's tech support is second-to-none in the industry.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:28 am Comment from: macdaddy

G Spank,
I'm glad you mentioned the tolerance thing. All to often it seems the liberals are telling the conservatives to be more tolerant, yet they seem to have no tolerance themselves. They expect everyone but themselves to be tolerant. Thanks for showing some tolerance.

I agree with the MDN view, Rush has a lot of listeners who may think about Apple now. Hate him or love him, it's about the Apple right now and nothing else.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:31 am Comment from: shen

i agree G Spank, lets tolerate the people who say things like http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Rush_Limbaugh

tell me how that works out.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:31 am Comment from: dubya

How else would I go to the Google?

Feb 15, 08 - 09:31 am Comment from: macromancer

"OK, can we please stop with the Rush stories now?"

No because MDN also like their page hits. Should we start a "think Before You Click" for MDN?

Feb 15, 08 - 09:33 am Comment from: DLMeyer

I'm not ashamed of myself, Spank. I'm equally intolerant of left-wing fruits, though there are many fewer on the far left in this country. Not that Limburger's audience would see it that way ... cause Rush says so.

No ... no tolerance from me for those who preach no tolerance of others. And that's a major portion of his riff. Interesting that he has no tolerance for drug users, eh?

Dave

Feb 15, 08 - 09:34 am Comment from: Jim Lynch

I'm a republican (from the libertarian wing) and I don't mind the Rush stories at all. I have some friends who dislike macs who try to harp on the "only liberals use macs" thing and I always point them to Limbaugh. But he's not the only conservative type who uses macs.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:35 am Comment from: Rush Limbaugh's Brother

Who is this guy ?

Feb 15, 08 - 09:37 am Comment from: RS

Dave you're sounding a little intolerant yourself. It don't seem that you ever listen to his show. I've never heard that intolerance you say is a major portion of his show. Oh well.

Macs are an equal opportunity computer...the way it should be.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:38 am Comment from: Ampar

" . . . on the most listened to radio talk show in America . . . "

We certainly are the kings of garbage posing as entertainment.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:39 am Comment from: Mac4lfe

He was one of the first radio personality to promote the iPhone on his show when it came out. He is a big Apple supporter and is helping promote the Mac platform.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:40 am Comment from: aaplsaur

Some of you people are not very nice. You act as if a person of a different political leaning is just that, only that, and your enemy. If you found out that the lady in line behind you at the store was in the other party, would you chew her out right there? Would you tell your bank teller what an ass they are having a different opinion from you?

Feel free to support and share your own views and, please, vote your conscience, but try not to be so hateful and jingoistic towards other people having their own views. Even if it's Rush.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:40 am Comment from: shen

"Too many whites are getting away with drug use...Too many whites are getting away with drug sales...The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too." -Rush

Feb 15, 08 - 09:42 am Comment from: shen

aaplsaur:

if the person behind me was a member of the other political party? no....

if he "We're not sexists, we're chauvinists — we're male chauvinist pigs, and we're happy to be because we think that's what men were destined to be. We think that's what women want." -Rush

then hell yes i would chew him out!

Feb 15, 08 - 09:43 am Comment from: RC

Good, I'm glad someone at Apple finally did step up to the plate. The idiotic left wing wackos can't ever see the forest for the trees anyway, but as MDN said, his promotion of Macs is indeed a VERY good thing whether you personally agree with Rush's politics or not.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:43 am Comment from: Switched

Microsoft: Apple's best advertisement...

Feb 15, 08 - 09:43 am Comment from: The Other Steve

Rush has been an Mac fan (not just a user) since before "the dark ages" (late 90's) and has talked about Apple on his show many times.
And he'll probably continue to do so until New York is under water. wink
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:44 am Comment from: Ampar

"I've never heard that intolerance you say is a major portion of his show. Oh well."

Then, you weren't listening.
Or, you agree with his racist remarks.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:48 am Comment from: Dialtone

I don't hate Rush personally -- he's no doubt a very nice guy -- I just detest all the horribly abusive things he's done to our country. But he did it purely for ratings, for profit, and with supreme success. He's a smart guy with a sharp team. That's why they all use Macs!

Marshall McLuhan famously said "We shape our tools and then our tools shape us." Will the Mac rub-off on Rush and inspire a shift in his message? First screen-sharing, then reuniting the red & blue states?

p.s. Anyone notice that both the Docs in HBO's "In Treatment" use Macs? An amazing show BTW.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:49 am Comment from: Rush

Hey, if someone of limited intelligence as I can use a Macs, anyone can!

Feb 15, 08 - 09:51 am Comment from: Matty

While Apple and Jobs lean to the left, a *lot* of Mac users are conservative. Hate to upset anyone, but its just the case.

And even though Jobs seems like a lefty, there are a couple of things that clearly mark him as something other than a card-carrying Dem.

First of all, he hates teachers unions and has blamed them for the problems in public schools on several occasions. Secondly, he sells (relatively) high end products that a lot of liberals would be angry about simply by virtue of the amount of profit they generate. Steve Jobs, despite the rhetoric, does not now nor has he ever, given a damn about providing a low-cost computer "for the masses."

Last but not least, Jobs has no shame about taking as much stock for himself in any venture he begins or gets involved with and leaving little or none for anyone else. Famously, Steve Wozniak had to give some of his stock to Apple employees who had been there from the beginning because Jobs had allocated all of it for just a very few people. Care to guess who got the most?

In short, sure, Apple and Jobs play at being a liberal company but in many ways, they are very conservative in their business practices. Which suits me fine but I suspect that is not the case with some of you.

Hope I didn't shatter any illusions.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:54 am Comment from: Tergenev

Rush Limbaugh is my enemy, and I believe, the enemy of the American constitution. It is not in the best interest of Apple to have this person associated with their products.

Feb 15, 08 - 09:55 am Comment from: shen

"Sexual harrasment at this work station will not be reported. However, it will be graded!" -Rush

Feb 15, 08 - 09:59 am Comment from: RS

Ampar lighten up. Quit trying to be another Olbermann clone. Lord knows there's enough of them already.

Feb 15, 08 - 10:00 am Comment from: LogicLover

Jacob,

Please explain all of the Obama ads on MDN.

Thanks in advance.

"Too many whites are getting away with drug use...Too many whites are getting away with drug sales...The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too." -Rush

There is a huge difference in those who deal/use illegal drugs and those who develop and addiction to legal painkillers (very common problem).

I just detest all the horribly abusive things he's done to our country.

What do you mean by "all the horribly abusive things"? I'm curious...

Feb 15, 08 - 10:14 am Comment from: Duke

Algore?

Feb 15, 08 - 10:17 am Comment from: effwerd

Okay, so does this mean you need a popular radio show to get real Apple tech support for free?

Feb 15, 08 - 10:24 am Comment from: Mr. Peabody

@G Spank - Huh?

@Jacob - So...(And yes, please do explain why only one liberal candidate gets space/time on MDN, and no conservative, if what you say is accurate...?)

Feb 15, 08 - 10:26 am Comment from: Al

How the hell did all conservatives suddenly become racist religious wing-nuts?

What is wrong with taxing productive people less and forcing lay-abouts to get off the dole and get a job?

Why should the government tax the hell out of me so it can wipe your ass from the cradle to the grave?

Feb 15, 08 - 10:38 am Comment from: Fatty Arbuckle

"OK, can we please stop with the Rush stories now?"

Rush = controversy = hits = $$ from advertisers.

This site knows what its doing. Don't click and comment if you don't want to support it. You know from the home page what the story was about.

MW = money

Feb 15, 08 - 10:43 am Comment from: Sarasota

G Spank - Yeah, all the people who spew vitriol towards Rush should be ashamed of themselves. I'm a liberal, but at least I have enough class to see him and everyone else as human beings. I guess it's called "tolerance".

Tolerance and class require maturity, which are qualities that are sorely lacking in society as reflected by many of the comments in this thread.

Feb 15, 08 - 10:50 am Comment from: Fatty Arbuckle

"How the hell did all conservatives suddenly become racist religious wing-nuts?"

It wasn't sudden. The libertarians should be against social conservatism, but the Repubs saw opportunity in allying with bigoted white southern baptists, starting with Nixon in '68 but played like a virtuoso by Reagan in the 80s. Prior to that, the yokels supported the Dems. Go figure.

"Why should the government tax the hell out of me so it can wipe your ass from the cradle to the grave?"

Only one reason--you live in a democracy, and its the will of the people to have a government. One that's smaller, proportionately, than what almost all other advanced countries have.

Question for you, Al. If you truly support the war, why are you so unwilling to pay for it? "Waah waah waah, my taxes...!" --give us a break.

Feb 15, 08 - 10:55 am Comment from: Sarasota

Actually, the U.S. is a representative republic, not a democracy.

Feb 15, 08 - 10:55 am Comment from: st1

He's gay right ? Again, he's dressed like a gay

Feb 15, 08 - 10:58 am Comment from: Ampar

RS: "Ampar lighten up. Quit trying to be another Olbermann clone."

No. And don't tell me what to do. I'm entitled to my opinion whether you like it or not.

Feb 15, 08 - 11:24 am Comment from: ATTENTION MDN

Please please please use this important national attention to INSIST that Cupertino pay attention to these FACTS:

1. The Mac Pro is about to lose its reputation as the superior machine.

2. OSX is about to lose its reputation as the superior operating system.

Microsoft and all its box makers are loving the fact that word is now circulating far and wide and in every print and electronic Macintosh publicatiion that the Mac has fallen prey to complacency and Leopard is FULL of problems ranging from not working at all on anything pre-Intel and experiencing real troubles on even the flagship Mac Pro.

The reason is Steve's obsession with his phone, tunes players, and, now, TV gadgets.

If he doesn't get the company back on track with focus on the serious products with long term value in the market, we could very well look back on the day when he stood in all his arrogant splender on the MacWorld stage holding up his 'I'm changing the world with this phone' ridiculous announcement as the peak of Apple's existence.

It's been downhill ever since and unless people with national voices - like you - quit the fawning and insist on refocusing the company, the Mac is forever going to be little more than it is today.

Feb 15, 08 - 11:24 am Comment from: Zune Tang®

"Apple calls Rush Limbaugh; working on his Mac issues"

Rush has issues? Gotta be a first. I love this guy's show and there was never any indication he's ever had "issues" with anything. Ever. Limbaugh is a straight talker who rightfully makes liberals squirm. They can't take hearing the TRUTH just as MAC sheep can't take hearing the TRUTH about their crappy computers. Let's be thankful it's only his little toy MAC.

Hey Rush, I know how to fix your issues. Get a Dell with Vista. Problems solved.

Your potential. Our passion.™

Feb 15, 08 - 11:29 am Comment from: JulianT

Everytime I see his picture or read his name I keep remembering the Michael J. Fox thing from the last congressional elections

Feb 15, 08 - 11:35 am Comment from: Jubei

LOL... that phrase "Rush is planting Apple seeds." wink

Feb 15, 08 - 11:40 am Comment from: Grigori

Good to know that when powerful people whine enough, they get special treatment. "The computer for the rest of us," indeed.

Feb 15, 08 - 11:40 am Comment from: Al

Hey Fatty Arbuckle! Did you miss-place that beer bottle again?

What the hell makes you think that every reader is an American? I'm in a 60% tax bracket in a socialist country where being conservative means anything right of Karl Marx. Over a third of the citizens of my country live by sucking on the government teat, one way or another.

Feb 15, 08 - 11:45 am Comment from: ron

@M.X.N.T.4.1, so if you didn't like the picture of God you'd think he was a bad person? What a maroon. Rush Limbaugh is the most popular talk show host in the USA, talking mainly to conservatives. Of course, you Limeys are so far gone to the left that your right wing is left of the communist party. I'm an ex Limey, (happily). I left England because of the unions and all that rot. You can hear Rush on the net. After you listen for a few weeks - then decide if he's full of - whatever. Englishmen had better get used to praying 5 times a day while facing Mecca.
