Apple CEO Steve Jobs expected to unveil new iMacs on Tuesday

“Apple Inc. on Tuesday is expected to announce a long-awaited upgrade to its Macintosh computers,” Ben Charny reports for Dow Jones.

“Apple representatives weren’t commenting Thursday beyond saying the company has scheduled a press event for Tuesday to focus on its computer lineup, and it will feature an appearance by Chief Executive Steve Jobs,” Charny reports.

“However, it’s widely expected the company will unveil its first lineup of new iMac computers since the company initially adopted Intel Corp. processors in January 2006,” Charny reports.

“Booming sales of Macintoshes helped the company record a 73% increase in profit during its recently completed fiscal third quarter,” Charny reports.

  2. I’ll second the Mac Pro. Or at least a decent video card for the Mac Pro. The 7300 is junk. I don’t want ATI. The only choice left is the way too expensive Quadra FX 4500. Give us a good Nvidia upgrade Apple!

  3. People…it’s schooltime…those of you who are wishing for a Mac Pro may be disappointed. It’s time for a new iMac design and I hope pre-installed new iLife.
My ultimate dream with low expectations is iWork integrated into iLife plus a spreadsheet and a mini Filemaker all for $99…perfect timing…since the new Office for Mac was delayed into next year.

  4. Wow! I’m quite excited – it will make my current Intel iMac – my first Mac classic!

I think Leopard Macs (as the new iMac will be – give or take a couple of months until 10.5 launch) will be discernibly different from the Tiger Macs (Intel & PPC) we know today.

  5. I dream of an iWork with a freehand like replacement.
Oh so tired of buggy ai… oh so tired…. geez, adobe, the point is to improve the usablity of next revs of software… i guess they had to meet the Windows paradigm… sigh….

  6. NeonRed,

I know what you mean about Freehand. I was a long time Freehand guy. I had ai in case a client insisted, but hated it.

Last year or so, after Adobe bought Macromedia, I switched to Ai CS2 thinking that they would kill FH and I’d have to switch anyway. After a “VERY” long learning curve I actually like it better. Color matching and output is far better in Ai. Though some things take ten more steps than they did in FH, I’m over all happier with Ai now.

When I have to go into FH to work on old files it just seems like I’m back in the 90’s or something.
