Apple CEO Steve Jobs inducted into California Hall of Fame
Tuesday, August 21, 2007 - 11:27 AM EDT

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver have announced the inductees for the 2007 California Hall of Fame, a landmark destination of The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts. Billie Jean King, 2006 California Hall of Fame inductee, revealed the names on The California Museum’s web site, (http://www.CaliforniaMuseum.org) listing extraordinary Californians who embody California’s innovative spirit and have made their mark on history.

The California Hall of Fame formal induction ceremony will take place on December 5, 2007, at The California Museum in Sacramento.

The 2007 California Hall of Fame inductees: Ansel Adams, Milton Berle, Steve Jobs, Willie Mays, Robert Mondavi, Rita Moreno, Jackie Robinson, Jonas Salk, M.D., John Steinbeck, Elizabeth Taylor, Earl Warren, John Wayne and Tiger Woods.

“California is home to hopes and dreams for so many, and it is the people of this state who truly make it great,” said Governor Schwarzenegger, in the press release. “The California Hall of Fame provides a wonderful opportunity to honor these leaders, and legends, whose imprints are stamped forever on our history and our lives. I want people of every age to be inspired by the stories of Californians who have shaped and continue to shape this state and the world.”

“This astounding group of inductees represents the vast contributions Californians continually make to our state and beyond,” said Maria Shriver. “I am so thrilled their stories and accomplishments will be shared and celebrated so that everyone will be inspired to make their own mark on history.”

“Being inducted into the California Hall of Fame last year was deeply meaningful to me, in large part due to the other women and men who were part of the inaugural group of inductees,” said Billie Jean King. “It is an honor for me to be part of the announcement of the next legends to be inducted this year, all of whom are so very worthy of a place in the California Hall of Fame and have contributed so much to the rich history of California.”

King described Apple CEO Steve Jobs as "the innovator, entrepreneur and creative genius" in her induction comments.

I wonder if Arnie said 'Hasta la Vista' to Steve, and if Steve knocked his block off?

The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts? Well, why not make it even more politically correct. How about The California Museum for History, Women, Homosexuals, Men, Cross Dressers, Lesbians, Transsexuals, History, Religion and the Arts?

When is dumbass Gray Davis going to admitted for being the Hall of Fame Dumbass of the Century?

I have to agree. Certainly, if notable California women were given short shrift in the past that could have been rectified without a special name or wing. Wasn't the goal for social evolvement to see parity of treatment? Instead we keep getting all these "special" status elements that simply Balkanize us as a society. I wonder how Ansel Adams, Milton Berle, Steve Jobs, Willie Mays, Robert Mondavi, Jackie Robinson, Jonas Salk, M.D., John Steinbeck, Earl Warren, John Wayne and Tiger Woods feels about an induction into a "Women's" museum?

if only Steve Jobs was a nice guy... Then he would really be some one truly honorable

That would assume that we even claim him. >.<

Wow, I made your hate list like 5 times!

They really should limit the number of nominations to 5 or less per year, otherwise they will run out of people to nominate in 10 years time. Unless, of course, they wouldn't mind the possibility of one day having to nominate people for bizarre reasons, like the kids who invented street luge in the 1970s, or the prison guard who fired the shot that killed the first inmate to successfully escape from his cell at Alcatraz prison.

Of course, they could be less creative and continue going with Hollywood actors. After all, they DO have enough of them there to choose from...

Oh, and Kudos to Steve Jobs! smile

I wonder why it should make any difference that it's a "women's" museum. If there is any reason for any of those men not to appreciate this, then that seems proof enough that society isn't the garden of equality you seem to want to think it is.
If you think that way, maybe you should ask yourself why.

When you're number one, you never know what it's like to be anything else. You also have no idea how fortunate you are.

I think you missed my point. Do you think Troy Aikman would prefer to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame or the Football Hall of Fame. It's a matter of relevance. Don't try to paint me as a misogynist. I think all people of accomplishment should be celebrated; but celebrated as people, not special interest groups. I just don't happen to see that benefitting the long term common good of society. Would you like hearing, "hey, you throw pretty good... for a girl."? If not, then why would you applaud a museum that says " here are some notable achievements... by women." ? It's like having a big asterisk next to your name in the record book. I think it's a disservice.

Lame. Jobs is old. Why do we have to keep hearing about this baffoon?

@ Spark

This site should be called ComputerDailyNews. I see no reason to celebrate a specific operating system promoted by a special interest group. I think it does no long term good for the computing industry.
