Apple CEO Steve Jobs is jet-setting again
Thursday, July 24, 2008 - 07:07 PM EDT

CEO Steve Jobs bills Apple Inc. for use of his personal jet when he uses it for company business. The expenses appear in each of Apple's quarterly reports.

Peter Kafka reports for Silicon Alley Insider, "Morgan Stanley analyst Kathryn Huberty thinks that the more Steve flies, the more reason AAPL investors have to be excited about the stock, because that means he's involved in face-to-face discussions with potential partners."

"In the last three months of 2007, Steve racked up $550,000 in expenses. That dropped to $30,000 in the first three months of this year. Now it's back up: He's billing Apple $102,000 for the June quarter," Kafka reports.

MacDailyNews Take: So, to where is Steve flying? China and/or Russia to setup iPhone carrier deals? Something to do the "mystery product transition?" A worldwide tour of knitting factories in search of new suppliers for iPod Socks?

As for this quarter, we hear that he's taking MobileMe developers on "skydiving" excursions. Jobs, at 30000 feet, "Parachutes?! I never promised you bozos any parachutes. Now get off my plane."

" we hear that he's taking MobileMe developers on "skydiving" excursions"

I heard their second choice was a hunting excursion with the V.P.

Or was the skydiving to take place over Cheney's bird hunting trip?

I'm as confused as a .Mac subscriber....

lol at the ipod socks comment - funniest i've seen out of MDN in a long while. =)

Jul 24, 08 - 07:44 pm Comment from: jarrettdailynews

pretty good takes. You can bet that when they annouce new mobileme apps that jobs will point outthat they punted the pooch on the onset.

Jul 24, 08 - 08:04 pm Comment from: wmd

Don't bother telling Al, he has his own jets so he can sell everyone about how we need to stop using fuel.

Thanks Steve for saving the planet.

Jul 24, 08 - 08:16 pm Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

wmd,

I agree, that is a blatant waste of energy. He should have used the company dirigible. It's a little slower but has kickass fuel mileage.

iPod socks? I want iPod JOCK STRAPS!

Jul 24, 08 - 10:07 pm Comment from: Macintosh

Does Apple have it's own jet for other top execs to use?

Either way, I would imagine some of the other top guys use Steve's jet from time to time, and Steve charges Apple...

Jul 24, 08 - 10:25 pm Comment from: iDon't

I think he is picking up hookers.

Jul 24, 08 - 10:29 pm Comment from: BC Kelly

Ok, now let's see

If my figures are correct, then we have this:

Steve gets paid $1.00 a year plus the plane, yes ?

So that means last quarter Apple spent on Steve - $102,000.25

And they made a $1,070,000,000 profit

Not bad - assuming my #'s are least in the ball park - but shouldn't be too far off, so ...

Wonder how many other Companies get a 1,000 to 1 return on what they pay their CEO ?

wink

Let's not forget the pile of stock options he's getting. One wonders what he intends to do with his billions.

@MobileMe Skydivers

Your parachutes will be automatically synced as soon as you exit the plane.

Jul 24, 08 - 11:22 pm Comment from: Jubei

I kinda feel bad for Schiller. Isn't he the man heading this initiative.

Jul 24, 08 - 11:27 pm Comment from: BC Kelly

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but -

Believe Steve's stock option 'payments' only happened a couple/odd times, and aren't recurring, yes ?

And, only once or twice, if that, has he cashed any in, yes ?

So, is like Steve is in Vegas saying, "Let it ride."

That sound about right ?

Steve is just getting used to altitude. Eventually he'll live in space in his iRocket before Sergey and Larry get theirs - that's Apple's secret product - the real X Prize winner. You think WALL-E was just a cartoon?

Jul 25, 08 - 02:01 am Comment from: the truth

for a guy who is on his death bed (cough cough), he sure is traveling to do biz deals... i think it's a sign that steve is just fine.. again hedge funds pricks, stick it up your ass.. or wait.. when the feds get to you your other white collar assholes can have their way with you in prison...

it's so funny to see the big picture here and how a few jackass's like to distort the truths...

the truth - apple is kicking all types of ass.... especially in this shitty economy.. just imagine if the economy was actually strong and the dollar was strong.... steve is fine, apple is fine, the products are solid and made for consumers in mind (not margins like most other companies) and people respond to quality... as time goes on, the people who are educated realize apple makes a superior product and the company gives two shits about them.. microshit could care less about consumers...

so travel away steve, build more relationships, make more deals, increase the numbers and smile while these fucking pricks who like to instill fear in people look clueless when you keep reporting earning reports quarter after quarter with huge growth...

where's that one jackass journalist goldman who said apple was going down... what a jackass she was.. where she at now miss " "I am putting a sell on Apple, the company that created the iPhone," Laura Goldman, investment advisor, LSG Capital, May 21, 2007.".. just another clueless idiot who has to go... she needs to stop reporting... so remember clueless people who follow the dumb blindly, another one of MANY people who try to discredit apple and ALWAYS loose credibility..

flying planes = reasons = deals = growth = money to company
and if you're dyeing you don't have time to do all that.. that was just a few weeks ago...

How much does a gallon of Jet A cost nowadays?

Jul 25, 08 - 03:55 am Comment from: SKY LARK

According to Dan Reed, USA TODAY

On the spot market, jet fuel sold at an average price of $3.95 a gallon for the week ended Friday. A week earlier, the average price was $4.10

Absolutely normal: i also charge my "own company" whenever i use my personnal car for busyness purposes:
• gas
• wear of the vehicle per kilometer
• parking bills
• extras in case of transportation(s)
This is a common and usual process... and prices are proportionnal and depend of type of engine used... of course.

The below is one of the funniest things I've read lately! Keep up the humor and wit. GREAT JOB you're doing over there.

As for this quarter, we hear that he's taking MobileMe developers on "skydiving" excursions. Jobs, at 30000 feet, "Parachutes?! I never promised you bozos any parachutes. Now get off my plane."

Steve's lining up suppliers for the new MacMini revision - the kicker here is that it will sell for $299.
Ad tagline "Buy Mac OS X and get a free Macintosh!"
Imagine what that would do to the "Switcher" movement.
I'm just sayin...

By now, everyone here has heard of Dr. Edgar Mitchell's recent revelation about aliens. This guy is no crackpot, he's heavy by half a dozen real science Ph.D.s, and walked on the Moon.

So, Apple's new product: The connection is becoming clear.

"It would be fun to be Steve's pilot"

John Travolta is doing it for free. I think he's trying to brainwash Steve into that Scientology thing.

Jul 25, 08 - 10:01 am Comment from: Ray

Well...I do not believe any of this until the New York Times verifies this. Did you know that Apple tries to raise it's stock prices by showing profit gains? Well, luckily the New York Times put a stop to that. Until the Times gets to the bottom of this, I would not give this story too much importance.

Just my $0.02

@ HMCIV "Your parachutes will be automatically synced as soon as you exit the plane."

Note: The "push" technology involved may take up to 15 minutes to deploy. Apple regrets the misunderstanding.

(I am one of those people who aren't complaining about MobileMe since, after it finally launched, has been working as advertised for me. Read and unread emails on my iPhone and Mail.app are now acting together as they always should have.)

Jul 25, 08 - 10:38 am Comment from: how far did he get?

As of 2007, the average operating cost of a GV was 3636.62/hour. With the cost of Jet A going nuts, it's probably closer to $5K now - so you can try to figure out where Steve went in those 20 hours of flying time.

Jul 25, 08 - 11:26 am Comment from: Jeremy

I think the really funny thing about Steve Jobs's health is that the one really solid clue as to how one can extend one's lifetime is to severely restrict calories. That's why those skinny old men that work their asses off for their entire lives in some third world country hauling wood or rocks still live to be 90+.

Steve Jobs' "condition" is likely to cause him to live longer than the rest of us.

Jul 25, 08 - 11:41 am Comment from: MacSheikh

"I'm tellin' Al....."

Don't bother. Al was in the back of the plane all that time, "sitting" with the stewardess!

Jul 25, 08 - 01:20 pm Comment from: Sir Gill Bates

Ampar,

They quit calling it 'push', didn't you hear?

Jul 25, 08 - 01:33 pm Comment from: Ampar

Yeah, sometimes it comes to shove.

Jul 25, 08 - 02:27 pm Comment from: Greg L

Speculation about Jobs being sick one day before Apple’s quarterly financials announcement. The SEC needs to investigate.

Jul 25, 08 - 03:10 pm Comment from: Ryan

"Huberty thinks that the more Steve flies, the more reason AAPL investors have to be excited about the stock, because that means he's involved in face-to-face discussions with potential partners"

That's probably some of it... but it seems like a bit of a stretch to assume that every time the jet flies on company business, this is what's happening. How do we know Steve isn't flying to go check on Apple retail stores, or work with managers in the Austin call center. What if he's just sending Phil Schiller to convince Virginia Tech it's time to upgrade their mac super cluster?

Jul 25, 08 - 03:17 pm Comment from: Andy

You've heard about Steve's 'elevator chats' with employees, right?

I think this takes getting fired to a whole new level!
