Apple expected to take legal action against ‘Mac-cloner’ Psystar; sues iPod accessory maker Atico

Apple has filed a patent infringement and trademark lawsuit against iPod accessories maker Atico International USA Inc. in which Apple claims Atico’s “Living Solutions” line-up infringes five Apple patents. “The allegedly infringing devices include Atico’s portable iPod speakers, an AM/FM portable boom box and an AM/FM alarm clock radio with iPod dock,” Ben Charny reports for Dow Jones Newswires.

Charny reports, “The lawsuit filed in a U.S. District Court in Delaware asks for an injunction against selling the devices, which are now available online and at Walgreens and other major retailers.”

“Apple is also expected to take legal action soon against Florida-based Psystar Ltd., which sells computers based on Apple’s Macintosh software in violation, it’s widely suspected, of Apple’s software licensing terms,” Charny reports.

  1. “Apple is also expected to take legal action soon against Florida-based Psystar Ltd., which sells computers based on Apple’s Macintosh software in violation, it’s widely suspected, of Apple’s software licensing terms,”

…”widely suspected”? Can’t they go look?

  2. Good for Apple! Sue the pants off of Psystar. If people want a crappy computer (which isn’t a good deal if you have a fully functioning brain) buy a PC. If Psystar sells Mac OS, that will be really bad for apple and their shareholders.

  3. My mom gave my son a Living Solutions Clock Radio w/iPod Dock for Christmas. He hooked his iPod to it and it fried in 5 second. Got super hot thaten would no longer work. Contacted Atico and they reimbursed us for their unit and the iPod. My son got a nice video Nano with the money. No more Atico products in our house, even before learning about the infringement. but they did right by us.

  4. Walgreen’s is actually selling these? Who is the idiotic purchasing manager for Walgreen’s who thought that would be a good idea? A little on-line research would reveal that it would be a highly risky and potentially costly action.

  5. MDN: “Apple is also expected to take legal action soon against Florida-based Psystar Ltd.” << this is not news. This is speculation. Don’t include it as news, and especially in the article title!

  6. Psystar is nothing more than a front created to take this issue to court without making public who is really behind this action.

The victims are those who bought a Psystar computer and will be without support when Psystar goes away when it is no longer needed.

  7. From ilounge.com

“Apple is claiming infringement of a patent on remote controls, infringement on the design patents for its Universal Dock well, as well as three Dock Adapters, and trademark violations relating to the Made for iPod, iPod mark, and iPod image trademarks. Apple has also alleged that Atico is unfairly competing with Apple in violation of federal law based on its use of Apple’s trademarks, falsely suggesting that its products are associated with Apple.”

Apple has to take action on this to protect its brand.

  8. “Apple will not loose this second computer world war. Third is coming in robotics… that is totally another story… smile”

Yes I know what you are talking about (most people don’t).

Enjoy the drama! (And I hope we both benefit).

This is why Apple is waiting so long (also to ensure their legal papers are prepared).

It will be a warning to everyone in the future who buys from unofficial clones. (Not even a clone; just a bad imitation actually).

Yes, i guess a real good and quite thorough investigation could make it interresting… don’t you think so?
Hum… takes some solid monney to push out a product, anyways…
