Apple to celebrate grand opening of Apple Store Friendly Center in Greensboro, NC on February 21

Apple will be celebrating the grand opening of Apple Store Friendly Center in Greensboro, North Carolina which will open to the public on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 10am EST.

To celebrate the grand opening, Apple is featuring a week of exciting events. In the store, Apple will have a variety of unique and educational presentations, demonstrations and workshops — all free of charge. The first 1,000 people to visit the Apple Store receives a free Apple Store T-shirt.

What a nice title - as opposed to e.g. the "Microsoft Store Unfriendly Center" - or the "Dell Crap and Useless Center" (and like)??

It's on Friendly Avenue. Greensboro was founded by Quakers, officially called the Society of Friends. (My son attends Guilford College, also founded by the Quakers, a couple of miles on down Friendly Avenue. We were there this weekend and were excited to see the large aluminum storefront with friendly white Apple on it.) There are seven colleges/universities in Greensboro and its immediate environs.

I use to live in Greensboro and Friendly Center is their Outdoor Mall. This is an odd place for the Apple Store because the primary Mall is the Four Seasons Towne Center indoor mall.

Four Season Mall is now consider a "not so safe area" with crimes. And Shops at Friendly is the new expansion from Friendly Shopping Center with higher end clothing stores.

The name makes me think of two things: the classic episode of Seinfeld where Jerry becomes an unwitting TV star in Japan, and my experience of watching TV in a Tokyo hotel a few years back.

"Welcome to the Super Terrific Happy Hour! Sponsored by Apple Store Friendly Center -- making your fingers jump for excitement with every computer time! Apple Store Friendly Center: Point -- Click -- Fun!"

This would be followed by a half hour of guys getting hit in the nuts by a monkey riding a Segway.

Haven't been to Greensboro in a while, I see. The Shoppes at Friendly are similar to that at South Point in Durham. Four Seasons Mall has become a dump/thug hang out that both merchants and shoppers alike are fleeing like the plague.

This is a great placement for Apple in the Gate City. Finally the drive to Raleigh, Durham, and Charlotte is over! No more Best Buy nonsense, either!
