Now if AT&T;'s system only had the capacity to activate my iPhone so I could actually play around with it. Grrr....

Jun 29, 07 - 07:38 pm Comment from: Rondolizer

Yeah, looks dusty and banged up. What, did you get the one Steve used to demo in the Keynote back in January? Better get back and line and get a nice one.

Jun 29, 07 - 07:39 pm Comment from: gutted

What? Nobody's taken one apart yet?

Some geek should have Linux running on theirs by midnight.

Jun 29, 07 - 07:41 pm Comment from: Outta Kool Aid

Other than the major cities, not nearly the huge line-ups predicted by all the breathless media hype. Guess it's just a $600 cellphone after all.

Many locations (AT&T;especially) have stock and nothing but crickets outside.

Jun 29, 07 - 07:42 pm Comment from: OctoberMac

My activation did not complete in the 6 minute time frame that iTunes said. I got the "Your activation requires additional time" message. So after 15 minutes I called the AT&T;activation hotline. They said it should take no more than 15 minutes. I am now at over an hour and I calleed AT&T;again and I was told the activation may now take up to 24 hours. Boy did THEY misjudge their capabilities! I reminded the guy that this is NOT the way to start a customer relationship with 100s of thousands of new customers, esspecially with all the media focus. I now have this really really cool looking brick on my desk that can't do ANYTHING until it is activated. Anyone else having the same problem? It appears that Tommy Boy is.

Jun 29, 07 - 07:43 pm Comment from: Cornelius

I believe that's the residue from shipping and boxing. I've read previous impressions that the screen was made to be sturdy and scratch-resistant.

Jun 29, 07 - 07:44 pm Comment from: Peter

Looks like crap. Whose was it before they stole it?

Jun 29, 07 - 07:45 pm Comment from: dialup

Who would've ever imagined the Apple logo and AT&T;'s "Death Star" sharing the same product packaging.

At least the logos are on opposite sides. smile

Jun 29, 07 - 07:47 pm Comment from: dfamily

Mmmm, looks scratched. Short lines. The activation problem will work itself out, though.

Jun 29, 07 - 07:48 pm Comment from: Millenium12

hey... http://www.iphone.com now belongs to apple smile - nice and sweet :D

And predictably, the ATT EDGE network is completely hosed. Wonder if ATT will give me a credit for my inability to use my Blackberry. Wait, are those monkeys flying out of my a$$?

Jun 29, 07 - 07:53 pm Comment from: Shogun

Unpacking is a beautiful experience... Even better than buying an upscale watch or Tiffany jewelry. They sure know how to make a brother feel good about a purchase.

BTW, the iPhone is far smaller in real life than it looks in pictures. Much thinner than a deck of cards and maybe 3/4 of an inch longer.

I'm downloading iTunes 7.3 right now...

Jun 29, 07 - 07:58 pm Comment from: dfamily

How about one of you lucky people take a picture with it so we can see how the camera is?

Jun 29, 07 - 08:00 pm Comment from: Mike

dfamily we can' use the camera until we activate. We cannot activate until AT&T;'s computer catches up. Grrrr....

Jun 29, 07 - 08:08 pm Comment from: R2

I like this comment I read at AI.

"It's obvious that this has been under development for many years. It is very well thought out. For example the notes application has a little envelope icon at the bottom. Hit it and the email app is brought up and the note that was typed is the body of the message. Nice."

Now those are the nice little touches I expect from Apple. Makes me feel all warm inside. That's why I couldn't believe simple omissions like copy & paste.

My son got his iphone. Only issue was updating the iTunes. Also needed is 10.4.10. Activation was a snap, but he transferred his old razor phone number, which was Cingular. He is very pleased, and so am I. It works very well on our wireless network.

Jun 29, 07 - 08:13 pm Comment from: Reclaimer

Actually it was not Kool Aid, but Flavor Aid.

Get it right, kids!

Jun 29, 07 - 08:13 pm Comment from: OctoberMac

The owner here should start a thread related to activation woes and successes.

Jun 29, 07 - 08:23 pm Comment from: macboy2010

Looks like the iPhone has a film guard, which needs to be peeled off before using. Hence, the "scratched" look.

Jun 29, 07 - 08:33 pm Comment from: OctoberMac

The film on the front of the iPhone can be left on and the touch screen seems to work well (at least for the unlock feature ... the only thing that works w/o activation). I am going to leave mine on to keep that fresh virginal feeling!

MW ... Ten as in ten hours until I wake up and hopefully have a fully activated iPhone!

Jun 29, 07 - 08:38 pm Comment from: Shogun

not cool... I can't get it to work with my airport. I've changed the password on the airport several times to make it easy with no caps or anything but the &#$% iPhone won't grab it. So I'm pouring through the manual.

Purchased at 6:27, ie 20 minutes on the Apple Store to complete the order! Safari beachballed for about 3-4 minutes per page on average, and starting the session took about 6-7 minutes to get to the first page. Now 2-4 weeks waiting for it to ship... :-(

Jun 29, 07 - 08:44 pm Comment from: dfamily

Yeah, it has to be a film guard. I've never bought an Apple product that didn't look fantastic out of the box.

Jun 29, 07 - 08:47 pm Comment from: akerbs

I bought an iPhone! Just syncing it now. Can't wait to start using it.

@ Shogun

All my fault. It's been so long since I actually had to use my wi-fi password. I'd forgotten that there's one password to change settings on the base station, but there's another password to join the base station's network.

{sigh}

Alright, I'm getting sleepy, but it's time to check this baby out.

BTW, I activated my iPhone at the ATT store. They said they would waive the activation fee. Then when I got on iTunes I got set up right away, but the Activation fee still showed on the site. Guess I'll have to wait until the bill comes to see what exactly happened.

Jun 29, 07 - 09:24 pm Comment from: Someone Else

Crap! I'm having the "activation needs more time" message too. AT&T;really dropped the ball on this one. Not a very good first impression on an otherwise awesome product.

MDN word = service
Can't make this stuff up!

Jun 30, 07 - 06:27 pm Comment from: Dave

patience people, when a million of buy the iphone, there isn't a network out there that can handle that kind of traffic!! but boy in a day a two it will all be alright! At least you got one, I still have to wait until my birthday--next year before I get one!

Jul 01, 07 - 09:56 am Comment from: GOODS

yeah its a bunch of bs, we spent 600 big ones and now they need more time 4 my activation, ive been waiting 25 hrs and counting, im honestly contemplating returning the iphone
