“With Apple recently confirming it plans to launch Macs featuring LED backlight technology in 2007, sources in the industry said the notebooks will use components from AU Optronics (AUO), Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO), Coretronic and Kenmos Technology,” Rebecca Kuo and Carrie Yu report for DigiTimes.
“AUO and CMO are both having their samples of 13.3- and 15.4-inch panels certified by Apple, with shipments to officially commence in the second or third quarter of 2007, the sources noted,” Kuo and Yu report.
“In the meantime, backlight unit (BLU) makers Coretronic and Kenmos are also sending samples to be incorporated in the panels, with official shipments to also kick off around a similar period, the sources added,” Kuo and Yu report.

Way to sport morning WOOD!
MW: John…
gimme gimme gimme
So…i will be getting one…when it has Leopard and iLife 07 on it….
Macs or MacBook’s?
13.3 and 15.4 inch screen = MacBooks.
I’ll take two.
‘Carrie Yu’
cool name

Wow you can get a 15.4″ MacBook that is news to me..
Awesome! I’m looking to downsize my 17″ MBP. This puppy turned out to be too much of a chore to lug around.

A bit off-topic:
Any idea when a Airport Express “N” is slated to come out?
@MPC Guy,
Gosh, how big a boy are ya? The MBP 17″ might prove to be a problem for Tom Thumb or Mickey Rooney, but jeez . . . the case for my MBP17 (which also fits accommodates the 15″) is heavier than its contents.
You may need someone to pump . . you . . up!
Hey whatever… they’re talking about possible future products.
Thank you Jesus for answering my question I knew I could count on you!
Say now that I have your attention, how do you feel about creationism being taught in schools? This obviously leads to my next question, evolution is it a bunch of crap or what?
I am waiting for Steve to say on June 11th “Santa Rosa Platform based Macbooks (with the upgraded graphics card x3100) with LED screens, available TODAY”
I mean if HP, ACER, SONY, and To-shit-ba can upgrade to Santa Rosa then why cant APPL?
On a different note.. will Motorola ever release a phone called APPL, to go along with PEBL, ROKR, KRZR ??
Multi-touch?
Actually, I’d like a small screen that folds flat and works with an electrostatic pen like the Wacom tablets.
Apple should buy Tandy, I miss lemonade stand!
Nice. Once LED backlighting and Leopard are out, Mac Book Pro here I come! The money’s already in the bank, so I’m just waiting for one more rev and Leopard before making the purchase.
11.2 and my wife will be happy to buy one as she steals my 13 Macbook now. It needs to be 12 or less for the ultimate portability we do around the house, etc. Why can’t Apple see that everyone loved the 12″ Powerbook!!??
Please, no puns about the inch thing, okay!
Speaking of the inch thing my wife likes the 13″ black one
I’m still using my 12″ Powerbook, even though it’s only a 1Ghz, just because I am holding out in hopes that Apple will make something as similarly “portable” and lightweight. Actually, I was thinking that maybe I could find one of those new drop-in Flash internal drives with the ATA/IDE connector to replace the 80GB 5400rpm one I put in it last year.
Does anyone know if we can buy those mystical drives yet?
I’d say that these panels are for portables, but could be adapted for desktops easy enough.
Mark my words: 11″ Macbook subnotebook.
@ipodboy
Bahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!! That’s a good one!
ipodboy: I want a pink nano for a similar, and yet opposite, reason.

Sounds like urinal-talk… two guys using side-by-side urinals… one tries to make conversation. Eeewww….
Reason for switching back to a 15″ MBP… portability. Might even switch to a 13″ MB and use the difference on a Mac Pro heavier duties.

Any idea on release date for Airport Express N?
@Rainfreak:
Say now that I have your attention . . .
42.
Santa Rosa and new screen can be used for both MB and MBPs. I myself would like a MBP though coming up with the cash would be tricky.
I disagree with the 17 inch weight issue. More than worth it for the extra screen real estate. Still everyone is different.
