Apple’s December patent apps describe 12 new inventions; Apple wins 8 other patents
Thursday, December 27, 2007 - 12:36 PM EDT

"No less than 10 Apple inventions surfaced today at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, with three new applications filed alongside seven documents that were officially granted to the Cupertino-based company. Apple's latest inventions include 'Pulldown correction for progressive display of audiovisual recordings,' as well as two patents related to iPhoto that create computer generated mosaics and touch up photos to remove blemishes. Seven previously-filed patents detail technology for DVD Web system, MagSafe, speech synthesis, and more," MacNN reports.

"Apple also won seven patents related to a DVD Web system, its MagSafe portable power adapter, speech synthesis, color correction of digital video images, accelerated scrolling, a new computer enclosure, and a means of accelerating scrolling for buffered windows," MacNN reports.

Forbes' Brian Caulfield reports, "Apple applied for 12 patents in December, and was granted eight others, giving investors and Apple fans an idea of where the secretive company could be headed next."

So much for the trolls claiming Apple never invents anything (but just repackages or so the trollbait goes).

This "Convergence-Enabled DVD and Web System" patent sounds extremely interesting...

Any ideas how this could play nice with AppleTV and/or iTS movie-rentals?

"So much for the trolls claiming Apple never invents anything "

I think it would be a stretch to say either, that Apple never invents anything or that they DO invent everything.

What I think IS safe to say is that they generally invent the BEST WAY to do things.

Don't really care which it is. Just GROW, baby. ("Baby" = AAPL)

Dec 27, 07 - 02:26 pm Comment from: Buster

Lots of new ideas means that Apple WILL grow. I think 2008 is going to be real interesting concerning Apple-PC dynamics.

Happy New Year everyone.

C1: Everyone, from Forbes to Leo LaPort, are leaping to the conclusion that Apple's DRM patent filing means that they have plans to mimic Microsoft's Genuine Advantage (I use that term with my nose pinched) to protect OS X. Somehow, I don't think Jobs would follow down the same path Gates and Ballmer have chosen. Especially with the common opinion of Genuine Advantage being what it is. The pundits seem a bit hysterical about this.

"The pundits seem a bit hysterical . . ."

Nice redundancy.

wink

Dec 27, 07 - 04:16 pm Comment from: Hm...

To paraphrase Mark Twain:
“Sir, you are a «pundit» and an idiot! But I repeat myself.”

Bonne Année a tous!

What did DELL patent lately? LOL

Wait MS does invent stuff right? Squicle? Squirt?

Dec 27, 07 - 07:59 pm Comment from: nekogami13

Suqircle is a math term not, not an invention by MS.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squircle

MS did not invent squirting-it has existed since the dawn of time, ever since man and women. MS just made it seem uncool and boring.
