Apple pays tribute to Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize win

Apple is honoring Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize win today with a photo of Gore and a message posted to Apple.com that reads:

Al has put his heart and soul, and much of his life during the past several years, into alerting and educating us all on the climate crisis. We are bursting with pride for Al and this historic recognition of his global contributions.

The story is also posted as part of Apple.com’s “Hot News” (ironic, no?) section here

  1. Why the Peace prize?

Conflict is often greatest in areas where resources are scare as groups of people fight for water, land, and food. Global warming is going to worsen the fight for water, food and other resources.

By trying to bring the world’s attention to the global warming problem, Al Gore is fostering peace by reducing the reasons to fight in the first place. This is why he won the Nobel Peace Prize.

  2. 20 to 30 years from now we’ll look back at all the Global Warming Cultists the same way we look at Flat Earthers now.

It was an “obvious truth” that “everyone believed” that the earth was flat, and the universe revolved around the earth at one point.

You can only keep a hoax going for so long. Eventually enough serious minded people will see through it. I have to hand it to the global warming crowd, they really have stretched this thing out.

But then again there’s still ~10% people who believe Elvis is alive, and many still think the Earth is flat.

    Whatever.

  3. Yeah, I noticed on ABC News with Charles Gibson that when they were talking about his documentary saying that something about his “PowerPoint presentation”?… ummm, I thought he did with Keynote, right??!

  4. Le Duc Tho – oversaw Communist insurgency against South Vietnamese government
Jimmy Carter – most incompetent 20th century American president (grain embargo, Olympic boycott, failed US economy, energy crisis, failed iranian negotiations & hostage rescue, etc.)
    Yasser Arafat – terrorist
Al Gore – “inventor” of internet, an assault on reason, hawker of imaginary man-made climate change, generator of hot-air

  5. It is a shame he won. He is a hypocrite in that he lives in a huge house that uses more power than a small neighborhood. He flies around in an old private jet that gulps fuel; and the worse part of his winning is the competition he defeated. Some woman that says thousands of Jew from Nazis in WWII. Freggin’ shame! I’m ashamed that he claims the state in which I grew up as his home.

  6. Congrats Al. Don’t pay attention to what the douchebags are saying about you. Living well is the best revenge, and so is winning the presidency (again) in 2016, if not 2008. If it hadn’t been stolen from you, you wouldn’t be a Nobel Prize winner now though. I say blow somethin’ up in your backyard in honor of the inventor of dynamite’s awesome award. Thank god we only have 1 more hellish year of Preznit Fscktard.

  7. I have just posted this with Apple.
“All thru the years you have steered away from any political subjects. This was among many reasons that I revere Apple as much as I do.
However, putting the pathetic joke that is Al Gore and the comical Nobel Prize on the main page is heartbreaking. Please rethink the Al Gore tribute and stick to selling the worlds greatest products.”
    Thanks n regards
    Bob

  8. BARF!

The use of the apple.com site for blatant political purposes is disgusting. Particularly when it lauds the biggest propagandist and scaremonger of the issue.

Science IS settled. Global warming is natural and cannot (read CANNOT) be caused by excess CO2. If people understood the properties of CO2 as an atmospheric gas, we wouldn’t be exposed to so much “gas” from Time, Newsweek, and the other “usual suspects” on the far Left who dearly wish humans COULD control climate.

The reality is that CO2, while effective, has a limited capacity to trap heat. Once that level of CO2 is reached that traps all the heat that CO2 can trap, no more heat will be retained by CO2. Those levels are fairly nominal, with the lions share of CO2’s capacity being reached with THE FIRST 20 ppm in the atmosphere! That is not a theory … it is scientific fact. Those who scaremonger (like Gore and the political writers of the UN’s IPCC summary panel) the issue are flat-out lying.

There is NOTHING unusual about current global temperatures. They are not unprecedented and they are not a threat to polar bear, despite the scaremongering you read.

Take note of the fact that polar bear have existed far longer than the ice age and heat cycles we’ve been through in the past.

Ironically, humans have never experienced Earth’s “normal” temperatures … which are so warm that there is ZERO permanent ice at sea level anywhere on the planet, including the poles. We’re currently in one of only seven ice eras that last from 45 million ot 65 million years. Taken together, all ice eras represent less than 10% of Earth’s lifetime since the existence of complex organisms. That means that more than 90% of the time since life forms existed on Earth that there have been no polar ice caps … and the only permanent ice is found at the highest mountain peaks.

A little climate knowledge goes a long way to understanding just how much baloney Gore has been slinging.

It also instructs us fairly well on the scientific background of those who hand out Nobel Peace Prizes.

“Future generations will wonder in bemused amazement that the early 21st century’s developed world went into hysterical panic over a globally averaged temperature increase of a few tenths of a degree, and, on the basis of gross exaggerations of highly uncertain computer projections combined into implausible chains of inference, proceeded to contemplate a roll-back of the industrial age.” — MIT Professor Richard Lindzen, PhD, Atmospheric Science

  9. A well deserved honor for someone who has worked for three decades to educate the planet about the dangers of man-made climate change. Regardless of the resistance, his message continues to influence the world to make the changes necessary to sustain our planet.

  10. Al Gore’s a fat douche bag (see “Roger Moore, redux”). Science is just a bunch of theories (see “Evolution”). The Nobel committee is a bunch of know nothings (see “intellectuals”). Scientists who revise theories are elitists (see “Ivory Towers”). Global Climate Changers are flat-out lying (see “Peer Review”). People can’t affect the earth (see “acid rain”, “nuclear fission”). The Main Stream Media is liberal (see Iraq War, build-up to”).

God gave us this earth to do with whatever we want! Just ask Rush. He knows! (see “wingnutters, the solid 28r;s”)

  11. An Apple board member gets a prize that’s more important than a Best Picture Oscar or an Olympic Gold. I think that’s cause for celebration.

Oh wait it’s for Global Warming. That damn concept that makes sense to the whole world except countries who’s name starts with United and ends with States. Wouldn’t want to save to planet if it’s going to hurt profits.

Now, I’m not a crazy nut supporter of the concept but I still think it doesn’t hurt to stop abusing our resources. Now, I’ve seen some hurtful things written here such as attacking the Swedish people and threatening to switch to Vista. Can we keep things civilized here? Fact is we all know that Apple is Steve Jobs and that includes his personal opinions.

What exactly his work has to do directly with peace is not clear but it is a big honour, that’s undeniable. Sure some find his work is debatable but, you know, Give the man some credit : He’s working hard to sell to the world what he believes in like many others. Apparently, in his case, it’s working.

    Just my 2 cents Canadian… or 2.06101 cent American according to xe.com ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  12. There sure are a bunch of expert climatologists who

frequent this site. Who woulda thunk? If it were up

to some of the posters above, they’d award George

Walker Bush the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize

instead of Gore…AND they’d be serious!!

  13. Global warming is a hoax! It has to be. It would inconvenience me too much if it weren’t. And I’m an American, which means I don’t like inconvenience. So clearly, global warming cannot be real. And since Al Gore is promoting such an unAmerican thing such to inconvenience me, he is clearly a socialist evil perverted hypocritical lying suckup wishy-washy flip-flopper of a Democrat anti-christ. And the same goes for anyone who associates with him. (That’s a message for YOU . . . Apple. And his Mom. And the nations of Sweden and Norway. And you 60% of traitorous Americans who agree with him on this issue. You have been put on notice.)

  14. Ross Gelbspan wrote article for Harper’s Magazine in 1995 in which he reported that Lindzen charges oil and coal interests $2,500 a day for his consulting services, his 1991 trip to testify before a Senate committee was paid for by Western Fuels, and his speech “Global Warming: the Origin and Nature of Alleged Scientific Consensus” was underwritten by OPEC.

Lindzen has also claimed that the risks of passive smoking are overstated. In 2001, Newsweek journalist Fred Guterl reported, after an interview with Lindzen: “He’ll even expound on how weakly lung cancer is linked to cigarette smoking. He speaks in full, impeccably logical paragraphs, and he punctuates his measured cadences with thoughtful drags on a cigarette.”

  15. Is enjoyable to read the various statements presented here.

Would any of you care to give references, footnotes, bibliography, or any evidence to back up your words ?

And perhaps site your source(s) ?

Sorry to be so picky on such a minor detail like proper Academic Procedure.

But when it refers to what we call Science – from the Latin scientia/scire ‘to know’ … well

    Humor us, please.

  16. Wow… and I had respect for you people just yesterday. How about backing off just a bit, huh? For goodness sake, the guys not selling weapons to children, he’s spreading a message about the importance of humbleness regarding human beings and this planet. Use less electricity. Be careful about the poisons that come out of smoke stacks. Regard the polar bear with compassion.

Resource scarcity leads to war. Think we can’t effect the planet? We’ve already mined an estimated 25% of the planet’s copper and our capacities will only increase.

So take a chill pill (ha) and give Al Gore and the Nobel folks a break. It’s a good and important message. He’s changing the world. The work deserves credit. It definitely deserves respect.

  17. All those complaining about Jimmy Carter, just remember this: history will likely declare George Bush the worst president of our country’s history. How many wars did Carter lie our way into?

Just think: he won an Oscar, an Emmy and a Nobel Prize in the same year. Not to mention the popular vote in 2000. If only the Supremes wouldn’t have given baby Bush the job, imagine how well off this country would be.

  18. @Bob Webster

Just curious where you get YOUR “facts.”

True, “icing” of the Earth has been around for a relatively short time, but for that matter, so has the existence of multi-cellular organisms.

When the “permafront” starts to melt, I’m thinking it’s no longer “perma,” and that gives me cause. And while the Earth will easily survive the loss of all surface ice, I’m pretty sure the world’s coastal cities will not.

If those of us concerned about climate change are proven to be wrong (like the Flat Earthers), I’ll be happy for you. If you’re wrong, it’ll be too late to do anything about it, and civilization as we know it is over.

With those odds, wouldn’t you rather act now? Or is there something about trying to save energy and more efficiently against your angry nature?

  19. All of you who keep mentioning politics, what does this have to do with that?

Al gore is no longer involved in politics. Thatd be like a man who saves babies from fired with a jetpack and gives millions of dollars away to orphanages, and calling what he does balloon animal making just because he was a clown at some point.

  20. OH BARF !!!
I hope they don’t leave that up long!
This is the only time I have ever been embarrassed by being an Apple user. I feel dirty. Make it go away.

How can politicians gain so much power feigning expertise in science, social issues, religion, or… (fill in the blank), when all they are really masters at is politics?

  21. Bob says:”However, putting the pathetic joke that is Al Gore and the comical Nobel Prize on the main page is heartbreaking. Please rethink the Al Gore tribute and stick to selling the worlds greatest products.”
    Thanks n regards
    Bob”

Well Bobby, if Apple is resorting to putting pathetic jokes on their main page, then we’ll get to see your ugly mug on there tomorrow.

But then, of course, they aren’t, so we will be spared your douchbagery facsimile.

  22. Those fools here who deride the existence or causes of global warming, should come to the arctic. Things are changing very quickly here. This is not some long-term, it-already-happened-before kind of change. It is quick. It is obvious. It continues. Weather in much of Alaska last winter was far better than much of the lower 48. Those of you who are ignoring absolute clear science and countless scientists in many countries who actually agree on this, are idiots. Too many figure you’ll burn Al Gore just because you don’t like him personally or his politics. None of that has anything to do with what is so obviously happening to the planet. You are fools.

  23. how very disappointing. al gore is a fear monger. there is no evidence of humans causing “global warming”. there are many scientists who totally disagree with al gore’s “causes” for global warming. wake up people. google “the great global warming swindle” and watch the video. you’ll also be treated to other videos on the subject.

    viva bush!!!!!

  24. I never intended my peace price to go to someone who is anti-human being. Someone who…

    a. has major Red Chinese money connections
    b. against power generation plants in 3rd world countries
    c. was and is the apologist for Bill Clinton who lied himself into 3 separate wars in order to cover for his zipper being caught down one too many times in the oval office.
    d. an enemy of the truth (there are more than 10 major falsehoods in his slide show including the whopper that C02 causes anthropogenic global warming.)
    e. nothing on Yasser who at least got the prize for being involved in an admittedly bogus peace process. Notice the word “peace” before the word “process”?
    f. lost spectacularly in 2000 despite preventing the military to cast all their votes in Florida
    g. has made a mockery out of my prize which no longer means anything. Might as well give it to Al Franken next time around for starring in the funniest SNL sketch as Stuart Smalley.

Were I not long ago dead and buried, I would have nominated George Bush who would have been a much better choice given that he stopped the slaughter of 100s of thousands of innocent Iraqis by Saddam Hussain.

  25. Jummymac, “no evidence of humans causing global warming”? Many scientists who disagree? Look at the thousands who do agree! You’re just looking for the slant you want to justify an unjustifiable position. But, and this is what is important, it really doesn’t matter the actual cause. What matters is that it is actually happening. Blame it on anything your uneducated, biased heart desires. It’s still blatantly here… and getting worse fast.

And even if Gore’s presentation got some things wrong based on science he rounded up, climate change CLEARLY exists. You’ll notice, uneducated fool, that I do not say “global warming.”

Climate change incorporates other issues, some of which you undoubtedly have little knowledge. Global Dimming may be one. Doubtful that you will, but I would encourage you and the other narrow-minded posters here to see the excellent NOVA presentation called, “Dimming the Sun.” Add that and things look even more precarious.

Don’t like Gore? Fine. But stop ignoring the clear and present dangers we’re all seeing right now. This is not merely some cyclical change that has happened in the past. It’s much too quick. And it won’t be reversible if something isn’t done immediately. Clearly, people such as yourself will ensure nothing is done at all.

  26. it’s amazing… and a little odd… how some people are still harping on about Al Gore. he lost the election, found another job, has a cause, believes in it… seems to have pretty much moved on with his life while many others appear to pounce upon and tear into the guy with an almost preditory zeal whenever his name is mentioned. heck, i nearly forget about Gore until his name comes up for some project or something or other he’s working on and after that i can’t forget about the guy ’cause the “I Really, Really, Really Dislike Gore Machine” gets cranked up and starts to sputter, wheeze and backfire along for a day or three then, as the story fades, it dies with a final belch of smoke, hiss of steam and a BANG, then left dormant until the name “Gore” is mentioned again whereupon they (whoever “they” are) drag the machine out again.

whether you like Gore or not the guy is trying to address something that has the potential to effect everyone. his opponents, on the other hand sound a lot like Prof. Wagstaff (Groucho Marx) from the movie “Horse Feathers”:

I don’t know what they have to say / It makes no difference anyway / Whatever it is, I’m against it. / No matter what it is or who commenced it, I’m against it! / Your proposition may be good / But let’s have one thing understood: / Whatever it is, I’m against it. / And even when you’ve changed it or condensed it, I’m against it! / For months before my son was born / I used to yell from night till morn: / Whatever it is, I’m against it! / And I’ve kept yelling since I’ve first commenced it, I’m against it!!

i’m sorry. it’s just that since this morning i’ve already seen two articles sticking it to Gore for his opinions and condemming Nobel commission for awarding him the prize mostly because they gave an award to… Al Gore.

  27. Looks like a creationist outbreak here, or is it just another bunch of idiot freepers doing a freep?

You were all wrong about WMDs, you we3re wrong about the war, and you’re wrong about global warming. Feel free to to go back to Windows anytime, losers.

  28. ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) – The U.S. mission in Iraq is a “nightmare with no end in sight” because of political misjudgments after the fall of Saddam Hussein that continue today, a former chief of U.S.-led forces said Friday.

Retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, who commanded coalition troops for a year beginning June 2003, cast a wide net of blame for both political and military shortcomings in Iraq that helped open the way for the insurgency – such as disbanding the Saddam-era military and failing to cement ties with tribal leaders and quickly establish civilian government after Saddam was toppled.

He called current strategies – including the deployment of 30,000 additional forces earlier this year – a “desperate attempt” to make up for years of misguided policies in Iraq.

“There is no question that America is living a nightmare with no end in sight,” Sanchez told a group of journalists covering military affairs.

  29. “Al Gore is a ECO-HYPOCRITE!!! Just look at all the electricity he’s wasting.

3 Apple 30″ displays and a TV on at the same time.”

Haha! I laughed so hard when I saw that “3 screen Al” picture knowing that most American homes have at least one big screen TV that consumes more electricity than Al’s 30″ displays combined and people use those TV’s for ENTERTAINMENT. Then count the TV’s in kitchen, study, bedrooms, garage etc. that are on at the same time, some for CNN, others for Xbox…

The biggest wasters of course are the truck drivers, think about all the energy we could save if they would stop driving ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  30. Mr. Alfred Nobel was the dynamite inventor, so to see Mr. Al Gore puts dynamite under the climate issues. There is a world climate issue but Mr. Gore’s opinion is not the whole story. Apple should not promote his opinions. The good thing is the common attention for our planet.

  31. “Haha! I laughed so hard when I saw that “3 screen Al” picture”

Go easy on poor Al. Somebody’s got to to spend their time flying around in a private jet telling the world how over consumption of fossil fuels is hurting the planet.

  32. Blimey, there are a lot of unhappy people on this site!

Give Gore a break folks — he may have some things wrong and have a tad too much scaremongering in there…

…but the essence of what he’s saying seems OK. That is, there are things happening and we seem to be at least partly responsible, so let’s do something about it.

And I know all about science fashions — one of my early children’s books about climate featured a future in which, surprise surprise, New York was buried under the snows of a new ice age, as suggested by the climate geeks of the day!

Even if Gore’s wrong, weaning the world economy away from MidEast oil and on to a non-polluting alternative is OK by me, because the outcome is a win-win, regardless of the accuracy of Gore’s arguments.

  33. It really seems climate provokes religious wars as with any hypothesis that breaks with the ‘established knowledge’.

Fact is there are THOUSANDS of scientists and specialists that support the warning on the climate change, even very recently with a large document all signing on the undeniable facts that do corroborate the hypothesis that we are NOT in a cyclic natural phenomena but that we are seeing a break in the hysteresis phenomena.

There are as well THOUSANDS of scientists and specialists who claim the other THOUSANDS are interpreting the facts (KNOWN TO EVERYONE) and data gathered so far in a wrong way, and that they are reaching conclusions that are to far fetched.

Reality is whenever a phenomena produces data that do not entirely fit in what the theory told us to expect scientists try to think to new models in order to explain them. The true scientist is the one that continuously doubt and tries to fine-tune the predictive model and a theory that would explain those data.

Reality is that honestly no one side knows for certain to be right, as much as what we honestly do not 100% know everything we teach in Universities is absolutely true. Problem is we do not know which part is false really, some other scientist in the future will show – retrospectively – which idiocy we took for granted. It always has been like this, and with all the great scientists of the past: they merely put us back in a better direction till we all go collectively astray and need more corrections.

  34. JoeRepublican,

well written; you hit the nail on the head.

It could well be that some details of the global-warming theory are incorrect, but the vast majority of meteorologists and other scientists in this field are convinced that the present global warming is man-made, and for all those talking about ‘facts’ here, that is an undeniable FACT.

As JoeRepublican implies, the rest is just the wishful thinking of those – especially US Americans who are the worst offenders – who find the truth too uncomfortable.

  35. I can’t believe there are still people around – especially on this forum – who think that global warming is a myth!!

How can you be so ignorant!?

It’s obvious (to anyone who cares to look) that the world is warming up. And it’s as a result of human intervention.
You people can’t afford to be SO ignorant in this day and age.

My only hope is that you live near the coast, so you see the effects of global warming – first-hand. Maybe when your house is destroyed by a huge wave, and all your worldly possessions ruined – maybe then you’ll believe.

But by that time it will already be too late.

    Just my 2p.

    Iest

  36. > No one has explained how global warming hysteria generation and
    > propagandizing is related to the Nobel “Peace” Prize.

Just wait for the first war for natural resources!
Mad Max, but in search for water instead of gaz…
How log will 6/7 of the worlds population let us (or US…) cannibalize this planet?

  37. Reading this thread and the previous thread makes me ashamed. The mindless hatred, spouting of “talking points,” and jealousy apparent. The lack of critical thinking, the lack of any thinking at all, just watching the anonymous attack of anyone found not fawning after the same view is disgusting.

It is no wonder that America is declining. If these are the rantings of the average citizen, then the US will unravel far faster than Rome ever did. It’s time to move to Canada.

  38. Subject: It didn’t happen !!!! – Can you believe it?

  39. To MikeK:

Climate science is readily available … just stay away from the IPCC and Gore if you want reality.

As one who has nurtured a fascination with meteorology and climatology for over 50 years, I have a pretty strong background of knowledge built during that time. While my degree is in Mathematics (which familiarizes me with the scientific method … which does NOT include “consensus”), my fascination with Earth sciences ranges from atmospheric science to geology and oceanography. Any serious study of Earth’s historic climate will cast serious doubt on the scaremongers of today’s “global warming” cult.

    Salient facts:

    1. The “Greenhouse Effect” is nowhere near the potent climate change force claimed by the IPCC and Gore. Doesn’t take much to verify that … do the research and you’ll be the better for it.

    2. From where do fossil fuels get their carbon that makes them a good source for fuel? How about ancient forests/plants? Burning fossil fuel is merely oxidizing carbon (product: carbon dioxide). Growing plants optained their carbon from photosynthesis of atmospheric carbon dioxide (taking the carbon and giving off oxygen). So the carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels amounts to a long term recycling of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Gee, I thought recycling was good!

    3. If scientists could demonstrate that conditions favorable for the beginning of the next ice age were upon us, does ANYONE seriously believe that a suggestion that we burn more fossil fuel to ward off a coming ice age would be taken seriously? You’d be laughed out of any forum by making such a suggestion.

People need to step back and take a look at Earth beyond human existence … which accounts for virtually the entirety of Earth’s existence. The typical climate of Earth is far wamer than anything humans (or polar bear) have experienced. It will return, like it or not. And neither humans nor carbon dioxide will be responsible.

  40. I posted this to Apple feedback today:

“I find it sad that Apple has chosen to make its left-leaning political stance “front page” news by putting a tribute to Al Gore on the home page. Apple makes great products that are used by people holding a broad range of political points of view. The Nobel prize was most certainly a political statement, and by “honoring” your board member, you have alienated a good percentage of your customers with more moderate and reasonable views.
As a result, I will have to reconsider my continued support of Apple products, knowing that the money I spend is supporting political stances I cannot agree with.”

You don’t hear much about socialists and communists anymore, but they certainly haven’t gone away. They have merely wrapped themselves into the “Green” movement and see Global Warming scaremongering as a way to further their agenga – anti-progress, anti-capitalism, anti-personal freedom, and greater control of the individual by the state. Look up “carbon credits.” In all its various guises, it is simply a transfer of wealth from the 1st world nations to the 3rd world. Why were China and India excluded from the Kyoto protocols?

  41. HEY EVERYONE. if you are saying al gore is full of it, or (less likely on THIS forum) defending him and his ideas, instead of just calling him names, FUCKING PROVE HIM WRONG!!! you all know SO MUCH about the climate, you’re ALLLLLL experts, aren’t you? how much research have YOU done? and if you HAVE done research, where’s YOUR documentary proving him wrong? exactly. you’re nothing but forum trolls who don’t know shit from roses.

just FYI, i’m not sticking up for gore, i’m taking a stand against ignorance. i don’t care if someone says he’s wrong, just back it up with something other than “becuz he is st00pid he sez he inventdd teh intarnets” – you know… EVIDENCE!

  42. As a non American I am surprised at the negative hateful things this thread contains and the general ignorance as well.

As someone has already said, this is not a political thing for Apple to do, it’s merely recognition of one of their own getting an award. That is entirely appropriate whether he is a Republican or a Democrat or whatever.

Especially disturbing are comments like those from “twilightmoon@mac.com.” The idea that someone is rich enough to afford a .Mac membership yet dumb enough to believe that Global Warming is a “hoax” is frightening to say the least.

Americans wonder why the world thinks so little of them, yet if you read this list of hate and garbage directed at a man who most of you don’t know personally who just spent the last ten years of his life trying to wake the world up to a terrible crisis and you can easily see why.

How despicable! How shallow and selfish and ridiculous you all look. Shame on you.

  43. It always amazes me that the world is so full of right wing idiots that love liars, crimninals and theives that rip all of us off, revel in the death of everything human and non human, have destoyed our economy, sold out our country, our evironment and our reputation. Is it the war mongering president that you all worship, that has no hope of ever being considered fair, honest, literate, or competant. You are all upset over someone who has done more than all of you put together for a purpose outside of your own self centered world.
It is the conservatives’ hate of everything that doesn’t stink like them that results in the death of the articulate and the peaceful; Lincoln, Kennedy, Martin Luther King. Your personal opinions are simply waste spewed by the hateful and ignorant. I am surpirised you took the time away from kicking puppies to vent your spleens.

  44. “It is the conservatives’ hate of everything that doesn’t stink like them that results in the death of the articulate and the peaceful; Lincoln, Kennedy, Martin Luther King. Couldn’t agree more. But when Hillary gets in it will all change. She’s going to tax all those rich conservative bastards and give us all FREE Health care, and FREE 401K’s and FREE $5000 bonds, and FREE Housing, and Food Stamps, and FREE this and FREE That.

Just because I want to sit on my ass all day and type messages on MDN (rather than work) doesn’t mean I shouldn’t have the same things in life that those who work hard to make something of themselves…. I want what they have, and Hillary is going to get it for me!!!!!!

And that warmonger Bush will be gone. Hillary’s will fix all of that mess. We’re all going to join hands with the terrorists and sing Kumbya and “I’d like to teach the world to sing”… And it will be a beautiful world full of Love, Flowers, Peace Signs, and Joni Mitchell CD’s.

And another thing Hilllary, Steve Jobs is RICH. He doesn’t need all that money. Make him by me a new Mac Pro….

    Signed,
    A Typical Liberal

  45. Congratulations, Al. You’re in great company: Jimmy Carter, the worst U.S. President EVER (and unsurprisingly the worst past-president), and Yassir Arafat, a lying, murdering piece of shit.. The Nobel committee has a long record of awarding prizes to undeserving fools.

  46. DJ writes: “…but the essence of what he’s saying seems OK.”

    NO IT IS NOT!

The essence of Al’s phony slide show is that CO2 causes warming. IT DOESN’T. Warming causes the production of CO2. This is scientific fact. Either Al is too stupid to know this (and he doesn’t strike me as the stupid type) or he is a prevaricating con artist.

I don’t get you Gore apologists. Just because a corrupt politician has a “(D)” after his name does not make his behavior defensible. The guy is as transparent as the acrylic front of an iPhone and you people still don’t get it. HE HAS MADE HIMSELF A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE PROMOTING HIS BOGUS AGW PROPAGANDA!!

Al Gore owns a huge company that trades in carbon offset credits. Carbon offsets are a SCAM in multiple ways too numerous to get into here. Suffice to say, that Al BENEFITS from the global warming hype in monetary ways. Corporations have to pay for these offsets and thus, you and I pay as well. By the way, many offshore companies DO NOT have to pay for these credits thus forcing more jobs overseas.

People point out gore’s hypocrisy regarding his damaging the planet with his private jet and yes, maybe it is hypocrisy at one level but I don’t see how flying his plane damages the planet and I don’t believe Al believes it does either.

CO2 is no more a pollutant than H2O for goodness sake! CO2 benefits the planet, especially the growth of trees. Gore has a clear conciseness regarding his 30K square foot house, his limos, his global warming concerts and his jet travel because he KNOWS the science. He KNOWS that production of CO2 means causes nothing negative to happen to the planet or its “ecosphere”. If man-produced CO2 could warm the planet, it would be a GOOD THING, as history has shown time and again.

Al Gore is just a capitalist who knows a sucker is born every minute. And to read the Gore defenders here, one realizes just how prescient PT Barnum was.

  47. Silly me, I thought people who bought Macs and appreciated Apple were on the more intelligent end of the population spectrum. But, reading all the anti-Gore and “global warming is a hoax” comments above show me that stupid people buy Macs too.

  48. @The Other Steve: “Good for Apple for their display page and congratulations to Al Gore for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I can’t believe some are still arguing whether or not air pollution is bad.”

I live near Los Angeles, you don’t need to convince me that “air pollution” is bad. But linking the real issue of air pollution, or even pollution in general (of land, water, air, sound, etc) to the Global Warming Cult hoax is loony toons.

The earth does fluctuate in temperature, widely. Both seasonally, between climate zones, different years and decades, this has been going on for the entire existence of the planet. It’s not a “crisis” it’s not a man made phenomenon, it’s not unnatural. It’s part of what the earth has been doing since long before mankind existed. If we die off it will continue for the rest of the earth’s life-span until the sun dies off in billions of years from now.

The Global Warming Cult exists for a clear purpose. They want to use fear and scientific ignorance of the general population of the world to gain control over people’s lives, economies, governments. This is about power, and politics, it has nothing to do with science or the environment. There’s huge money involved in the Global Warming Cult, and it feeds upon itself.

I have nothing specifically against Al Gore, I’m willing to accept that he passionately believes in this hoax, fine. Possibly many of the people in the Global Warming Cult believe in it, I have no idea, but there were hundreds of people in Jonestown that believed in Jim Jones, and there wasn’t a large amount of money or power at stake there, like there is in the Global Warming Cult.

Consensus is not scientific evidence. Humans are sheep, and if you dangle large amounts of money and power many people will take the bait as in this case.

Eventually this hoax will unravel. It’s impossible to keep such a huge lie going forever. But it will sadly do a tremendous amount of damage to the world economy before that happens. Losing many people their jobs, giving tremendous power and resources to the hands of fascist liars.

    Sad really.

  49. Oh, I should mention, I don’t blame Gore for getting my prize. Hey, if a guy can manage to con a bunch of empty-headed Scandinavians into giving him the Nobel Politics Prize in order to promote himself and his Carbon Offset Credit business, bully for him. So what if promoting the man-made global warming hoax keeps third world countries in poverty. What should he care?

Gore probably realizes now that it was a good thing he didn’t win the presidency in 2000. If he had, HE would have had to deal with Saddam and AQ, something he was ill-equipped to do. Instead, he took the time to build his fortune, get an Oscar and a Nobel Prize instead.

I personally have no sympathy for the guy when he gets up and whines in front of his adoring throngs about losing in 2000. Boo-fricken-Hoo.

  50. @the84MacGuy

“reading all the anti-Gore and “global warming is a hoax” comments above show me that stupid people buy Macs too”

Funny, I was thinking just the same thing about all the people who are buying Gore’s tripe.

There is only ONE thing you need to know about anthropogenic global warming 84, and that is that global warming PRECEDES CO2 increases, not the other way around. This is scientific fact and puts the lie to the entire AGW canard.

  51. .

I am liberal and there for man made global warming is rea.l MY left wing scientists say it is so!! I will ignore other scientsts and ignore that ALL scientists where using BAD SUN DATA FOR 10 YEARS and now it looks like the sun is putting out more heat then before . 1500 year cycle. You liberal people are following the Pied Piper. YOU say we don’t see it We have just as many scientists that say it is a cycle.

  52. Well… looks like US folks ahve still not understood how miserable choice Bush has been for the states!
Of course, in the history of humanity, it’s well known that countries never get the right leaders… Poor dry brains…

  53. @iestynw
You write: “I can’t believe there are still people around – especially on this forum – who think that global warming is a myth!!”

Conflating naturally occurring global warming with anthropogenic global warming is one of the most common errors made by the ignorant masses. The debate is not over whether warming is occurring.

The RATE of warming is in contention of course and given that NASA has been fudging the numbers and a large percentage of land based measurment stations are next to AC heat exhaust or built next to parking lots doesn’t do much to add credibility to Gore’s position. But let’s take the concensus number of 1 degree C increase in the last 100 years. Whoopdeedoo.

Putting that paltry number aside, the theory of AGW is predicated on the foundational principle that

    1. Industrialized society introduces significant amounts of C02 into the atmosphere (man doesn’t even make a dent in the amount of C02 concentrations in the atmosphere).
    2. C02 CAUSES warming (the reverse is true).

Since the foundational principles are bogus, this makes the entire theory bad science. The masses don’t realize two key things about the AGW hoax:

    1. There is BIG money in promoting it, both at the university research level, and in the market place.
    2. The theory is built on computer models (probably running on Windows PCs ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> that are only as good as the data (which is next to impossible to obtain) and the assumptions. Do you people know that there are models that show significant COOLING in our future? Those are not mentioned in the media because it doesn’t fit the talking points. Furthermore, THEY are only as good as the data and assumptions as well.

There are so many things wrong with the AGW debate it is not even funny:

    1. The people promoting it benefit politically and monetarily if it advances.
    2. The data used to construct the computer models is only a fraction of what is needed in order to have a credible model. Researchers guess at a huge majority of the input to these models.
    3. Satellite data shows cooling while land based monitoring stations show minor warming. As mentioned before, NASA uses the land based numbers because they favor warming.
    4. Warming is being promoted as a BAD THING(tm). It is very easy to demonstrate that quite the opposite is true.
    5. C02 is released into the atmosphere when the oceans warm.
    6. “An Inconvenient Truth” has over a dozen major errors in it. Correcting these errors would result in NO CASE for Al Gore to promote. In other words, no Oscar, no Nobel Prize had he stuck to the facts.

  54. Oh, I should mention, I don’t blame Gore for getting my prize.

You can wake up now, child. You are not Alfred Nobel. You hold no sway in any matter that reaches beyond your mother’s basement. You have no voice in the scientific community and you have neither the intelligence nor the education to speak authoritatively on awarding the Nobel Prize or Global Warming. You lame role-playing reveals your sense of your profound inadequacies while your snide and sanctimonious tone betray a bitter jealousy rooted in your arrested development.

  55. …one more thing…
If american republicans want to commit suicide and saw the branch their sintting on… it’s their damn right… But if it pull down all the rest of the world, then there are still some people around to say a big NO (even if these arrognat small brains just make a big joke about)!
And don’t think USA is so great: $ is just suported by the banks till the Yuan and the Euro get strong enough… than, the banks of all countries will ask USA to pay back the depts and drop the $… and USA will just be a bad impers… or the best reminder of how NOT doing things!
…Sorry for the good people of America… but you’re not too numerous, it seems…

  56. Even though I detest some of his liberal policies and views, I think him getting the award is great! I believe in environmentalism. Unlike some, I don’t buy an entire party’s platform; I think independently, something we should all do. Who could argue with saving the environment? Unfortunately, many do in this arrogant society. Go AL!!!

  57. There is a global warming, no doubt, but I do neither believe that the mankind is responsible for it nor that it has the power to stop or reverse ist.

The world and its climate have always been dynamic and the mankind has to either adopt himself to it or vanish. People overestimate themselves believing they can make the world or its climate static.

  58. Oh, and questioning non-credible science is not “hateful” as some above are asserting.

I have no hate in my heart for Al Gore. He’s a good politician and, as all good politicians do, he convinces people that what he is saying is true. In Al’s case, the evidence is clear that people fall into two categories:

The true believers (don’t bother me with facts).
The benefiters (facts are not the issue, whether one’s political or business agenda can be promoted through the use of the alarmism is what is most important).

This is not to say that there are not a lot of researchers who are honestly studying this issue. Many of them are looking at the phenomena of warming itself (not the cause). Others are looking at whether the cause is man-made or natural.

The problem with this issue is that there is so much at stake if we get it wrong. If Al Gore is wrong but a planetary mandate is put in place to curtail C02 emissions, then everyone suffers needlessly.

If he is right (something that the current evidence calls into question) then we won’t know for hundreds of years (since the warming we have measured, rightly or wrongly is statistically within the margin of error), and most of the major producers of C02 are exempt (c.f. China, and emerging 2nd and 3rd world nations).

Sorry if that comes off as hateful to you apparently thin-skinned Gore acolytes but feel free to prove me wrong.

  59. I don’t give a shit about Gore but you are merely an Essenhigh tool. It’s all the same kind of bullshit from the folks in denial. First, lay the groundwork of doubt by disparaging the GW work. “It’s not a consensus. it’s based on models. It’s speculative. It’s a highly complex system that no one can definitively understand.” Then introduce your idea of “fact.” “I heard of this one scientist who says that co2 is caused by warming not the other way around. I know the scientific community has been studying GW since the 19th century, but this guy, in 2001, with the same evidence available to him as everyone else, came up with his own theory and supporting models that speculate that everyone else has it all backwards. Since it sounds reasonable to me, it must be true!” One guy, speculating, with computer models, about a “highly complex system that no one can definitively understand” just like everyone else. “But he’s right and I’m gonna claim it as absolute and unequivocal truth to everyone I talk to about this.” Shut the fuck up already.

  60. @effword

Sorry if a voice of reason offends your delicate sensibilities. Anyone who knows anything about the roots of the Nobel prize would realize that the namesake for my alias would have been horrified to find that his prize was being used to promote junk science like this.

Remove everyone who gains a monetary or political benefit from the AGW scare-mongering and you’ll end up with a a large number of scientists who question AGW.

Oh, and effword, I’ll go back to my basement after you have watched this video with a semblance of an open mind. It may be the best 8 minutes you’ve spent on this subject.

  61. Hey eff, clearly you know nothing about the scientific method or the importance of scrutinizing the method given your childish attitude. You sir, are a hypocrit.

Show me ONE study that demonstrates that C02 increases PRECEDE warming then I’ll “shut the f*** up”.

By the way, all ice core samples back up my position re: C02.

  62. “Eventually this hoax will unravel. It’s impossible to keep such a huge lie going forever. But it will sadly do a tremendous amount of damage to the world economy before that happens. Losing many people their jobs, giving tremendous power and resources to the hands of fascist liars.”

Now you’re bringing the Bush Administration into this thread?

  63. Ooooh, a demand for evidence. I’m scared now. And what do you present to support your position? A fucking YouTube video of Glenn Beck on CNN examining past media sensationalizing of climatological theories? You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me!

  64. Many of the comments here are bizarrely hateful.

The intelligence of the US population is crumbling, just like their dollar.

If you believe Al Gore is a socialist, you have no idea about socialism.

If you believe global warming isn’t real, your choice. But why the hate? The guy is trying to do something good for the world, isn’t that commendable?

And to those who think GWB should get the Nobel for his work in Iraq: since when do you give a f*** about an Iraqi?

  65. @Canadian

Global warming (for the last 300 years) is real (about 1 C), humans have just had little if anything to do with it.

GWB has free millions of people from their oppressors. Algore is scamming people with carbon credits!

You liberal canadafucks can kiss my red white and blue ass!

  66. @eff

You sir, are not even worth debating if you are going to keep attacking me personally and insultingly.

If, however, you are interested in an honest debate, there are some things you could do:

    1. Admit that Gore’s AIT slide show is fraught with “ifs”, “wishes” and errors.

    2. Show me evidence of C02 increases PRECEDING warming.

I have been studying this issue for about 5 years at the university level (on the information theory side, not the climatological side) and while I have my biases, I have looked at both sides in great depth.

I can point you to a lot of other resources to support my contention such as here, here, and here.

I only pointed you to the CNN story because it seemed to be basic enough for you to quickly peruse. Your response seemed dishonest to me but that is for others to determine.

    Cheers.

  67. Al Gore in 2008!
Democrats – Dump Hillary, Obama, etc.
We want a Nobel Peace Prize winner in the White House…and the guy that invented the internet and a board member of Apple and former Vice-President (8 years of experience) and….
    Al Gore in 2008!

  68. Darwin’s theory of evolution is just a theory and has never been proven.
Who cares about the ozone hole in the atmosphere, I’ll just wear a hat.
And this gravity thing, it is really bullshit.

This proves, along with two elections of W, that the US is full of dumbshits.

Gimme my blue pill, I want back into the Matrix.

    @ Canadian
    You are so right.

  69. @84

“Who cares about the ozone hole in the atmosphere”

I certainly don’t since there is no such thing. If you are talking about the 11 year cycle of antarctic ozone thinning, can you maybe find something that happens every 11 years that might cause it? ehmmmm?

Maybe you think that humans use CFCs in more abundance every 11 years.

[and 84 thinks OTHER people are dumb]

  70. According to Dick Morris, Gore can beat Hillary:

“If the bumper sticker of ’92 and ’96 (Clinton-Gore) divides, and we find Gore running against Hillary Clinton, Al Gore could not only beat the former First Lady for the Democratic nomination, he could win the presidency.

Gore can seize this opportunity as the campaigns of Obama and Edwards are fading, out-fundraised, out-managed and outmaneuvered by Hillary’s campaign machine.

Al Gore – the newly minted Nobel laureate – could steal the nomination from Hillary’s well-oiled machine.”

Even though he is a con-man at least he’s not a Lennist. The Dems could actually take back the White House with a Gore nominee. No chance whatsoever if Hillary is the nominee (unless the GOP nominates Ron Paul ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />)

  71. Reclaimer: I hear you. Though not as old as you (probably by about 10-20 years) I too remember that. The funny thing is though that “global warming” isn’t a new theory. In 1906 my great grand father wrote an op-ed piece for the Milwaukee Sentinel about the great quake in SF. Next to his piece was an article on “Global Warming”. The more things change the more they stay the same. Somewhere in this mansion is a copy of that newspaper…

  72. Judging from most of the idiot posts here, the Freeper alert must have gone out. “Flood all the blogs with anti-Gore comments.” Poor nazicons, they’re losing it.

The issue is not even that human production of CO² is causing the obvious global warming, but rather that it’s an issue that can get through to the sheeple to reduce usage of petroleum products, and Gore has even mentioned this.

But the real issue is overpopulation, which has led to the profligate use of oil. The sheeple aren’t ready to deal with that issue yet. There’s going to have to be a huge die-off of people soon, to get down to a sustainable 2 billion worldwide population. So you see, Bush is actually helping!

  73. @neomonkey.

I would say that your post (if it not satire) has to be one of the most frightening opinions yet voiced in this thread.

May I make a few suggestions to you:

    1. Try posting here without using a computer made from oil.
    2. Please volunteer to be the first to help reduce the population of the planet.

    Thanks.

P.S. “nazicons”? Wow, how original coming from someone who just posted some of the better Hitlerian philosophy I’ve seen in awhile. The only thing missing from your post was your claim to being of superior genetic stock and the word “neocon” (code word for “conservative joooos”).

  74. To all you pro AGW, Gorelubbers.

Thanks for proving my (and several other AGW skeptics) points. Not a single rebuttal was found in the entire thread to what we were saying. Just insults, claims of “hate-speech” calling us NAZIs and bigots. Well done.

When you people decide to join the 21st century where science is the preferred benchmark for judging the evidence rather than your heightened estrogen levels, let me know.

Until then, I bid you all adieu.

  75. To Alfred Nobel,
We’re supposed to debate a bunch of dinkboys who have already categorically refused to acknowledged established scientific reality? Why, precisely, would we bother trying to fight your supposed ‘points’?

It’s sort of like the parrot sketch dealing with you folks:
    “This parrot is dead!”
    “No, he’s not. He’s resting.”
“Look at him, he’s a stiff!”
    “No, he’s pining.”
    “He’s PINING??”
“Yes, he’s pining for the fjords. Very meloncholy, the Norwegian Blue.”
    “You’re barmy!”
“No, I tell you he’s pining!”
“He wouldn’t even be standing on his perch if you hadn’t NAILED him to it!”

    See.

Fighting with you nutjobs just wastes our time.
However, we’ve also learned that letting you have the pulpit without at least CALLING you the nutjobs that you are is unwise.

So I will. You, and the folks you are allied with in this fight, are a bunch of dogmatically driven, racing backwards into the Dark Ages, nutjobs.

And I’m laughing in glee to see how much this victory by Vice President Gore and the UNIPCC is just BUGGING the HELL out of you. (HA!)

  76. @ Tergenev

A long post to just tell us you don’t know what the heck you are talking about. You could have saved yourself some time and the planet some grief by just saying so up front.

But you go ahead and push Al Gores fascistic (used in the dictionary sense of the word) policies. Stop using your computer, stop driving, stop doing whatever you are doing that is harming the planet and let Al decide how you should live.

Come back and tell me when you have fully complied (oh that’s right, after you give up your fancy computer and your Internet connection in order to minimize your carbon footprint you won’t be able to tell us anything – thankfully).

I laugh at your feeble attempt to cover up the fact that you have no reasoned response.

    Cheers!

  77. @ Alfred Nobel

Actually, under fascist these days I believe you find the picture of Dick Cheney.

I should respond in some reasoned way to a caprocephalic pinhead?

And justifying my carbon footprint to the likes of you? That would be like trying to explain Plato to a steaming pile of dung. Almost literally.

  78. @bc kelly, hey there Mr. academician, ooh are we special! citing sources and footnotes, all that crap that is used to justify any bazaar ass idea (like al gore) that comes down the pike. Those of us that use this site know the TRUTH and we don’t need the likes of you mucking it up–so in the immortal works of THE WHO, why don’t you just fffffffffffffade away. Thanks, and have a nice day

  79. I have a better idea.
Why don’t all of you retarded (see *BUSH) wingnuts secede and form a nation of in-breds.
Multiply your DNA. Then cross-breed all siblings.

Then, you can form a network.
Call it, hmmmn, let’s see, wait, I know,

    FOX “news” info-tainment ™.

It wouldn’t be reinforcing each other’s opinions or anything like that, it would be fair. And balanced.

  80. I will now have to videotape a DVD for my great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren leaving them a message that they are gonna get sunburned quicker than I did when I was a kid. Al Gore is a turd and I am glad he is not in control of our foreign relations…noone would take him seriously just like they won’t take Hitlery seriously…but I am glad he used Keynote to help him win the award…now he can afford 10 more 30″ displays.

  81. Wingnuts- use Windows.
    We don’t want you.
Real Americans (i.e., unlike Sean Hannity), we want you to secede.
    Go form a cesspool.
    Go have a “freedom concert”.
    Be a “Great Amurican”.
You’re afraid of women. Ms. Clinton will be your next President.
So why not get out now?

  82. I love Apple and their products but boy I hate when they get involved in politics – and this is politics – nothing more. Take Al Gore off your home page. Note to Steve Jobs – don’t mix you political beliefs and your company – you have done it by bringing Al Gore on the board.

  83. I turned my air conditioner on in my house today and it got really cold. But I believe it had nothing to do with the air conditioner, but it was just a 24 hour cycle.

Then I turned on my heater and it got really hot but I believe it had nothing to do with heater – again I think it was just a another 24 hour cycle.

I lit a fire in the fireplace and close the flue. The house filled with smoke but I seriously doubt it had anything to do with the fire.

I was curious about all of this so I hired a person I call a scientist to tell me what I wanted to hear to validate my observations. He agreed with me. Now I don’t have to do anything about it.

    Ignorance is bliss.

  84. Skeeter: “Gore is such a big Arse Hole!!!! I can not believe Steve is paying such homage to this piece of Shct! What is he doing for you Steve – sucking your bung hole too???”
    ====================================

Skeets, you’re such an eloquent spokesperson for the unthinking, intolerant, stupid as a rock 28r;s. Why don’t you have your own talk show?

  85. <.i>”@ Always Right
    I have a better idea.
Why don’t all of you retarded (see *BUSH) wingnuts secede and form a nation of in-breds.
Multiply your DNA. Then cross-breed all siblings.”
    </i>

The problem with that is for you Libs, if we all leave, all that will be left is all of you Lefties who aren’t interested in employment…

Someone has to work so you can tax us for your FREE Health Care, FREE Baby Bonds, FREE 401ks, FREE WIC, Food Stamps, Government Housing, etc, etc…….

Think about it before you throw us Conservatives out. Remember, someone has to work to pay for all the government handouts all you Democratic Scum thinks that you are entitled to….

  86. The man is not perfect by any means. For you do-nothings to criticize Al Gore for standing up for what he believes, you only show your own ignorance, lack of integrity and lack of character and credibility. Not to mention your incredibly massive hypocrisy.

  87. What’s truly amazing is how the echo chamber these flat-earth “there is no global warming” has worked so effectively.

ALL credible scientists in the world believe that there is global warming. Most of them credit humanity with a large proportion of why it’s happening at the rate it is. And the damage to the ecology that is coming.

The remarkable thing is how they intentionally remain immune to the facts. They have drunk not only the Kool Aid (maybe they should rename it “Kook Aid!”) but they spread it around as if there was no question to their house-of-cards arguments.

What utterly remarkable fools. But then that’s where their 6,000 year-old-earth, men and dinosaurs lived together and Left Behind nonsense came from. Pure credulity with conscience-challenged demigods willing to exploit them for profit.

  88. It seems that there are a lot of people here that feel that Al gore is fear mongering, and that his message is full of untruths. My question is this…

What does that make Bush? His fear mongering passed the Patriot Act and has taken away your civil liberties from right under your noses; not to mention invaded Iraq in the name of peace (when we all know its actually about the oil) and have carried on an illegal war? US is in a decline with a recession looming on the horizon; just look at the pathetic state of the US dollar. Yeah, go ahead, use more gas, turn on all your lights… I think the derision and microscope should be focused on your “fearless leader” instead of a man that has left politics and is now trying to do something for the people.

  89. What if we call it:
“Taking our noses out of the Middle East’s Butt”

Lets call it our patriotic duty to wean ourselves from resources controlled by our enemies.

Let’s not personally smear anyone. Lets look at the benefits of energy diversity.

Let’s look at living within the realities of a finite spaceship. (that sound pretty commie doesn’t it?)

Now who is against any of these things…

Maybe people who benefit from the status quo.

Follow the money and quit being blinded by an ideology that wants you to keep paying the people who are in business with our enemies.

What can be wrong with finding less dirty ways to power our economy? Oh right, that would diminish the oil companies, & decentralize energy production.

Nothing good can possibly come of that!

So our only recourse is to conflate a former vice President with Arafat and call scientists a bunch of idiots because they aren’t as certain as your Baptist preacher.

  90. Let’s not…..

“Let’s not personally smear anyone. Lets look at the benefits of energy diversity.”

“so our only recourse is to conflate a former vice President with Arafat and call scientists a bunch of idiots because they aren’t as certain as your Baptist preacher.”

Odd that those don’t quite jive. Well, actually, it’s normal.

How about nuclear? Wait, the left hamstrung us on that.

How about drilling for more of OUR oil? Oh, yeah, never mind.

Now wait a minute, which President and Vice-President have spent more money on alternate resorces than ANY other two combined?

Was it Clinton and Gore? I mean, that woould seem obvious.

No? Then it MUST be Carter/Mondale……
    Really? No?

You mean it is the administration that is in bed with Big Oil?
Well, that doesn’t fit your agenda, does it? It MUST be a lie.

  91. “Those fools here who deride the existence or causes of global warming, should come to the arctic. Things are changing very quickly here. This is not some long-term, it-already-happened-before kind of change. It is quick. It is obvious. It continues. Weather in much of Alaska last winter was far better than much of the lower 48…” – See Alaska

One of our local news stations put out a story in the spring of 2007 just prior to the weather forecast. By the way, it wasn’t Fox News – this station absolutely adores the ground that Al Gore walks on. Anyhow our region had be weathering through a colder than normal winter with about average snow fall and it’s obvious that they put the story out with the thought of, “You think YOU have it bad, take a look at these poor people”!

The subject of their story was that Alaska was suffering through an exceptionally cold winter with much more snow than they normally get. So much snow, they said, that even the native Alaskans were crying “Uncle”. They showed brief interviews of what they identified as Alaskans and all of them were complaining of the bad winter and looking forward to an nice warm spring thaw.

This story I saw directly contradicts your comments. I can only guess that the news station didn’t seek Al Gore’s permission to put out this particular story. On the bright side (concerning your comments), you can wear bermuda shorts this winter…

  92. Idiotology is no defense for common sense.

I didn’t use the right code words (talking points from Rush) so I must be a lefty. That way you don’t have to consider anything I said. Duh

Yep, its the “Left’s” fault that nuclear (nukular) energy creates a deadly waste product that lasts thousands of years. It’s Clinton or Gore or even Carter, that made nukular waste toxic.

And yep, the left is at fault. Hell, they controlled Congress for the last twenty years and the White House for the last 6… oh wait, no they didn’t.

They still must be at fault for everything ’cause the Jews run Hollywood.

Tell me tonedeaf, what is the problem with cleaning up emissions & and diversifying energy sources?

Why don’t we let the “Free Market” find ways to do this? Instead of pissing on Gore or anyone else you don’t like?

Did I attack Bush? Uh no, I asked what is wrong with energy diversification & who would benefit from stopping it?

But like always your ideology got in the way & you missed that.

  93. Some of you act like the “Left” (anyone who isn’t with you on the issues) are enemies of the state.

    How dare you.

The exploitation of political divisions has been the most destructive act in this country for quite some time. This isn’t the way a healthy society is run.

I don’t agree with either side one hundred percent & I resent being pushed to a polarizing “side” just because I’m not mouthing the party line. Either party.

  98. Bob Webster,

You’re barking up he same tree of ignorance that so many of your contrarian friends before you have. Citing science does you no good if you don’t know what it means. This “CO2 already traps all the heat it can” argument is an argument from ignorance. Read up on the mean free path of IR radiation and the residence times in the atmosphere of said IR radiation and we’ll talk again.

  99. Tom Strong,

Uh, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by the Norwegians …

Seeing as you’re such a knowledgeable guy, I think I’ll pick your explanation for global warming before that of the Academy of Science. Or maybe not …

  100. It so interesting to see how the “skepticism” of the self-labeled skeptics fly out the door when it comes to examining anti-global warming arguments. Then anything goes, no matter how daft or obviously politically based the claims are. JoeRepublican really nailed it. Kudos.

  101. To whoever:
“I didn’t use the right code words (talking points from Rush) so I must be a lefty”

No, you used code words from the left. Plain and simple.

As far as nuclear, it seems to be good enough for France.

“they controlled Congress for the last twenty years and the White House for the last 6… oh wait, no they didn’t.”

Neither did the Repulicans. They took over in ’94. I count 12.

“They still must be at fault for everything ’cause the Jews run Hollywood.”

    WTF?

” what is the problem with cleaning up emissions & and diversifying energy sources?”

Nothing. Get the Democrats out of the way so the “Free Market” can do its job. Plain and simple.

“Why don’t we let the “Free Market” find ways to do this? Instead of pissing on Gore or anyone else you don’t like?”

Have you not seen the restrictions that Gore AND Hillary advocate?

“But like always your ideology got in the way & you missed that.”

Actually, it was pretty easy to read it in your post.

  102. The administration I’ll bring is a group of men and women who are focused on what’s best for America, honest men and women, decent men and women, women who will see service to our country as a great privilege and who will not stain the house.
    –George W. Bush

    Des Moines, IA
    01/15/2000

  103. “No, you used code words from the left. Plain and simple.”

Lucky for you, you spotted the evil leftist code words. If you read it backwards it says stuff about gay marriage.

What an nimrod, I won’t waste my time, instead I’ll spend my time warping society using my macs to create the cultural evils that you see around you. The tide of culture isn’t long held back by “conservatives.’

    Ha, ha.

  104. It’s great knowing that it was Northern Californian, long-haired, hippy, liberal Democratic types like Steve Job and Steve Wozniak who created a company like Apple – setting an example for what Americans can achieve within the free enterprise system – and thank you Apple, for congratulating Al Gore, another far-seeing true American on your home page.

  105. The story is also posted as part of Apple.com’s “Hot News” (ironic, no?)

Yes. As ironic as flying in a large private jet, burning tens of thousands of gallons of non-renewable, CO2-belching fossil fuel, all to tell us how we’re causing global warming and ruining the planet.

Nobel Prize my foot. In another era Al would’ve been branded a hypocrite.

  106. I was also thinking how ironic it is that Al Gore helped the development of the internet so it could create sites like MDN, where he’s berated and insulted. Steve Jack wouldn’t be making his $$ here peddling web ads and increasing hits by fanning the flames of intolerance among Apple wingnuts.

  107. The problem here, is those that are spewing AM talk radio venom, mindlessly, and generically.

Yes, in America, the greatest country in the world, we should all have medical coverage. A liberal idea. A good one. Like Social Security was. Medicare. Medicaid.
We are the only major industrialized nation that does not cover it’s citizens.

  108. thank you Apple, for congratulating Al Gore, another far-seeing true American on your home page

Smart companies keep themselves politically neutral. Apple is not a news wire, and is treading dangerous ground by covering something so controversial. The prize isn’t even Apple related!

If Apple wants itself to become an icon of the left & a tool of the Democrats, so be it. They just need to be aware of the implications.

As an AAPL investor, I don’t like what I’m seeing.

  109. Lower 48, Alaska is big. Very big. So weather in various parts can certainly vary including colder than usual in a few parts. And there were certainly a couple of storms that came through that were chilly. But, overall, as one who is here, I will tell you that the weather in most populated communities south of north was much better than the Lower 48 much of the winter. Some Alaskans did complain about the winter being cold, but only compared to the past 5 years or so since things are overall warmer than looking back 20 years.

Did you see Arctic Tale? The news continues that arctic ice flows are going away. As opposed to what some have said in this massive thread, polar bears and other animals are truly threatened.

Climate Change scientists are working hot and heavy in Alaska because change is so obvious and so rapid. I believe it is more rapid than many scientists have predicted. Come and watch the glaciers literally melt before your eyes. See the invading plants from down below now able to thrive here.

How’s the weather been in the sun belt the past handful of years? Wearing warm clothes less often? This is not a “normal” cycle.

Worry. Things are clearly happening quickly.

  110. Jeremy & Canadian, yes, I’m embarrassed by the comments here and by what’s going on in the U.S. People are clearly clueless and are just dragged down by their ignorance. That may not be as bad except the U.S. seems to be hurting the rest of the world at the same time.

I am not a Democrat (that doesn’t automatically make me a Republican, by the way) but Jimmy Carter was right when he called the current Bush the worst president in the history of the country. That is especially true in foreign policy. But his ignorance on Climate Change is clearly shared by enormous numbers of people, most of whom seem to have posted on this thread.

Even if Climate Change MIGHT be true, we should proceed to plan accordingly. But people choose to laugh it off because they have no interest in the messengers, not just Gore.

This country is a mess. Someone said it has similarities to pre-WWII Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia. I certainly see those similarities. I hope it does not proceed any further along this path.

Threads like this one do make us look even worse to the rest of the world which reads along and loses the little respect that may have been left for Americans.

I certainly don’t have much anymore.

    Scary.

  111. Some obsevations
“Lucky for you, you spotted the evil leftist code words. If you read it backwards it says stuff about gay marriage.

    Ha, ha.”

OK, you win. I am an nimrod.

“You make a very good point. I still don’t get why these pro-Bushers can also be so defensive about their “freedoms” when Bush has taken them all away. It doesn’t make sense.”

That has to be sarcasm. Or really good irony.

“Yes, in America, the greatest country in the world, we should all have medical coverage. A liberal idea. A good one. Like Social Security was. Medicare. Medicaid.”

Um, the last two provide coverage to those who are old and poor. The rest who don’t have insurance spend their money on something else of their choice. This money will be taken away to pay for univeral coverage. You lose your choice of what to do with your money. It ain’t free.

“I’m near fifty, never saw that. Think what you want but maybe it’s time to open our eyes.”

This in a nutshell explains the lefts argument. If it didn’t happen in their lifetime, something is wrong.

Well, y’all have a good week.

  112. @ “not fooled”
lol Nobel Prize my foot. In another era Al would’ve been branded a hypocrite. lol
More hypocrite then you? You mean?
Hey! You’d better ask amerindians what they think about who’s been fooled, beg them for pardon and leave the ground you’ve have stohlen to them.
…Maybe you could go ilving in Irak? Seams a nice country for some…

    TT, you must be nuts.
You mean to say, those who don’t have insurance, (the waitress, store clerk, salesperson, etc.), have the money, but elect not to purchase health insurance?

    Holy shit.

  114. In most cases, Always, that is right. They choose to spend money on other things. They aren’t easy decisions, but they make them.

Having everything you want is not guaranteed by the Constitution. Just the ability to go out and do as you want. It’s called ‘personal responsibility’.

Once you remove that impetus, you chip away at the fundamental motivation for people to strive to achieve more.

This is why Communism and Socialism fail.

“What, the State is providing food, cash, full medical? F*ck it, I’ll stay home and watch my plasma. Man, I don’t know why I have to pay for cable. I need that info, that connection to the world. I HAVE RIGHTS!!!”

You won’t get this, Always. It is a fundamental difference between conservatives and liberals. Ask any you know.

  115. For the rest of the world – remember: US citizen are NOT majority – the funniest thing is the amrican way of politics… See: an extrem right of total careless republican is critisizing a less extrem right (far less fascistic yet not enough humanistic) and call it communism! Pathetic…

  116. Towertone, Re almux

While the american right is all humanistic and empowering of the human spirit. Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.

I’d also like to point out that what you call “socialism” is kinda right of center in most of the civilized world.

  117. OK, thermotie
Is it their standard of living? GNP? Life expectancy? Charitable donations? Personal income?

Please don’t site one country for this, another for that, unless you compare them to the regions of our country that excel in some degree.

    Thanks

  118. i am truly astounded and ashamed at the negativity and hate-mongering that is going on by people who call them selves americans and who supposedly “think different”….what is so terrible about thinking of something greater than your own self-interests?!…….also ……so interesting that many of you still buy into “carter was the worst president” myth….what about the “october surprise” ….he has also been a tireless advocate for global understanding and bulids houses for the poor!!!!……

  119. yes, towertone
    i exist for your amusement
let’s mock and mudsling those people who work towards something more than thier own tired self-interest and against over-consumption and rampant greed (carter and gore)
let’s admire those who are rapacious and power-mad (cheney) …or their cronies and puppets (reagan and both bushes)

  120. jimkost-
    you’re killing me.

Odd that I can look at the good that Carter and Gore have done, weigh it against their legacies, and decide they are not worthy of their attention whoring.

You worry about others speaking bad about someone, and then you do what?

Carter is all about trying to rectify the image anyone over 40 has of his horrible job in the White House. Granted, I liked the man, and admired his charitalble work. But former presidents are not to keep putting their noses into foreign relations without invite from the current administration.

President Clinton found this out the hard way. Carter should have let the one thing he accomplished, the peace between Egypt and Israel, to speak for itself. But no, he continues his pitiful bumbling leadership 26 years after he was fired. I never saw Ike,Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, or Bush do this. That is what a class act those guys were, and I am sure JFK was from the same mold. Clinton has held back some, but still whores too much. It is not how our ex-leaders to act.

I can guaran-dam-tee you that no matter who becomes President in the coming years, neither Bush exes will stick their noses in just to be a thorn or whore.

Sorry if that hurts, but Carter has been such a disappointment after I tried for years to admire him.

  121. Towertone,

Jimkost said something pretty reasonable and nonderogatory. Just because it conflicts with your ideological worldview, doesn’t mean he deserves to be mocked.

Honestly, you, Towertone, are delusional. Perhaps from a lack of experience or awareness. Your cynicism is a form of anti-realist dogma, an ideology that does not value independent observation, scientific rigour and general common sense. Other notable anti-realists would be communists and Nazis. Both groups objected to the idea of an objective reality based in inquiry and rationality. Communists believed facts do not exist except as a tool for social change. Nazis believed facts do not exist except as a tool for domination. Both were highly idealistic, just like you, who has very little respect for education and scientific method.

You must have had a pretty bad education.

“Is it their standard of living? GNP? Life expectancy? Charitable donations? Personal income? Please don’t site one country for this, another for that, unless you compare them to the regions of our country that excel in some degree.” – Towertone

Towertone, the correct word is “cite”. “Site” refers to a location. To reference a document or fact, the word is “cite”. How can one take you seriously, really?

As for GNP and Standard of Living, you should just avoid that topic as a defence, because the USA has a very low Standard of Living. And, for a country with such a high GNP, it’s embarrassing that your Standard of Living is so low. Your health system is terrible, your living standards are terrible and your education system is terrible. The one thing that raises it, is the wealthy elite running your country. Their standard of living is great, their health system is great, and they get great education. But the majority? They’re screwed. Don’t you feel you deserve more than the slop you’re given?

And you never answered my question about why Americans are so friggin fat. Tell me why the USA has such a vast number of obese people. I remember visiting USA many times, and when I was child I was almost frightened, as I was surrounded by all these really huge, fat people. It was like crossing into the Twilight Zone. It’s natural for a few people in a society to be obese, but not 50% or more of the population. There’s something really unhealthy about your country. Do you not think about it? Do you not care?

And tell me, dear Towertone, have you ever been outside your country? Have you ever been to, say, Sri Lanka, to Eastern Europe, or even to Western Europe? Based on your prejudiced comments and ignorance, I’d say no. Because if you did, you’d see yourself and your ways a lot differently.

But I guess you’d rather wallow in your smug, self-satisfied, ignorance, replete with clichés of the American Dream, Freedom and global superiority. All I can say is GET OUT a bit. Go see other places, go meet other people. You’ll find out that Lo and Behold, Freedom, civilisation, kindness and human decency are found everywhere. All those things that you think make the USA oh so special aren’t so unique to the USA. In fact, a lot of countries are more free in many ways. Just ’cause the movies and Fox News tell you you’re the free-est and the best, doesn’t make it so.

  122. “carter was the worst president” myth

The current sitting president is always “the worst ever”. It’s been that way since at least Wilson.

A president’s worth is never proven until they’re out of office.

  123. I noticed Towertone has nothing to say to me. I guess he’s either confused or chicken. Or maybe some wild act of randomness has occurred and he’s begun to understand himself and his ways a little bit. Maybe he sees he blinded by faith in what his elders have taught him, followed along mindlessly, without sense. That is what it is like to live in dogma, in a totalitarian mindset. Maybe he is waking up.

First thing he should do is apologise to Al Gore and Jimmy Carter.

  124. Uh, Canuke, I think I made a pretty good argument for what I believe.

I am soooo sorry for the misspelled word, I generally don’t use a spellchecker. Again, I beg a 1000 pardons.

jim’s statement-“so interesting that many of you still buy into “carter was the worst president” myth….what about the “october surprise”

My reply “thanks. I needed a laugh.”

That was not reasonable or nonderogatory. Granted, them ain’t fitin’ words, but I disagree. Maybe you are too young or too Canadian to understand, even though I layed the reasons out fairly plain.

Your paragraph about me being delusional is pure fiction written in your head based on preconceived ideas of a concept that you cannot either grasp or appreciate. But saying that makes me sound like an asshole, as you did, so I will dispense with the psychoanalogy.

I guess had I spelled ‘cite’ correctly you would have had to provide some facts to back up your assertions about our living standards. Lucky you that I am so uneducated that you can shift the discussion, and I am too stupid to notice.

As far as weight goes, I don’t know. I am 45 years old, 6′, and weigh 215, and most of the men I work around are in pretty good shape, but we do physical labor. There are only a couple of people in my extended family who are overweight. But I do love the irony here

“And you never answered my question about why Americans are so friggin fat.”

“But I guess you’d rather wallow in your smug, self-satisfied, ignorance, replete with clichés of the American Dream, Freedom and global superiority”

You know, Canadian, you really come off as an elitist asshole. And I am holding back on that.

  125. Nice response, but don’t let yourself be goaded by such an obvious attention-deficit nut.

Half the fun is letting ones like that squirm in their closed little world, waiting for a response. If they had any credibility or outlet they wouldn’t be here.

  126. If you had used a spellchecker it still wouldn’t have caught your mistake, because it was not a spelling mistake.

And you still don’t get what I’m asking you: don’t you think the number of obese people in the USA is too high and indicative of a culture without a sense of health?

And you haven’t really made any points other than “Al Gore sucks because he’s wrong and Rush is awesome ’cause he’s right” so don’t be too proud of yourself.

  127. I’d almost been sold on getting an apple, but if this is the quality of person Apple wishes to endorse, I’ll stick to using PCs running Windows. Great way to alienate your market idiots! How many other products are poorly marketed with a person that either makes people either happy or, in my case, just sick.

  128. Al Gore doesn’t suck because he is wrong. He is actually very entertaining, hosting one of the most memorable SNLs in recent years (decades). I was pulling for him in the ’91 and ’92 primaries.
I enjoyed listening to his ideas on ecology, when they were within reason.

After 2000, and SNL, be became a little strange. His “Baptist preacher’ sermon/speeches” were a little unnerving. Maybe it was because even his home state declined his job application. Maybe it was because the Clintons remained in control of the Democratic Party when he was supposed to be running it.

At any rate, how is it that “Gore is Good” and “Rush is Bad” any different? Why is it that eight years of being Vice-President was not enough to get Kyoto through? Why is it that so many scientist who actually study weather have come out against his movie? A judge in England? He ain’t ‘merican, he must be smart!

And spellchecker would have found fault with ‘site’ had I used it, because it would have also given the definition.

    Sorry, Plato.
    Have a drink.

  129. Towertone,

“Is it their standard of living? GNP? Life expectancy? Charitable donations? Personal income?”

Standard of living and life expectancy would seem to be most reasonable of these measurements. But GPI per capita or some such would be even better. Unfortunately that’s hard to come by for every country, or more than a few even. But I actually think there are GPI per capita measurements for the US and a few other western countries. Standard of living is also a bit difficult to measure. General population satisfaction maybe. I seem to remember PIPA measuring this.

The US would probably score fairly in these and other relevant measurements, and poorly in some (like for instance violent deaths, percentage of population in jail, perceived insecurity, racial inequality – I don’t think you’d be arrested for driving while black in many other countries). But the point is there are quite a few countries that would score as good or better in most or all. The US is by no means the bottom of the barrel, but there is on the other hand precious little to really boast about.

  130. @Alaska,

OH, come here to Alaska, see what is happening OH my God global warming help!! it is all melting! help! on my god!!

IT’S A FUCKEN CYCLE !! A WAVE PATTERN THAT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE!! you just happen to be here at the same time it is happening you emotional idiot liberal!!

You just can’t accept our earth’s heat cycle is like a radio wave up and down at it is happening because of the SUN not Haluburtan!

  131. ” I don’t think you’d be arrested for driving while black in many other countries”

Themotie, I am sorry, but that is just an insult to America. It is like saying that you can get arrested for driving around Europe while Jewish. And even though racism occurs here (and everywhere in some form), it is not institutionalized anymore.

So when you hear about ‘RACE’ in the news, keep in mind that it is also a card that is played for political points, and the people that investigate generally find out that race was not a factor at all, just ignorance.

That is what happened at Duke, and at Jena, LA, plus two other cases that are very local to me.

  132. I am a PC user who had decided to switch to Mac when Leopard became available. I had been checking the Apple website every day this month looking for a release date. I was appalled this past weekend to see a picture of Al Gore when I opened Apple.com. Why would Apple deliberately irritate potential customers? Or do they think that all Mac users are left-wing extremists like Gore?

    I will stick with PCs.

  133. @Angry,

You’re telling me that you’ll use a shite computer because of a picture on the Apple website? To each his own. Geez, rather than limit yourself from the Apple experience, why don’t you just move to Canada so you don’t have to put up with that kind of crap? I hear they have 3 or 4 political parties there including the “Green Party” to choose from.

  134. Andy, yes, you are one of the idxxts who knows nothing. You heard this was a cycle and that’s what you’re going with? Cycles have certainly happened in the past. Overall, they were slow coming about. This is quick.

Doubtless, you’ve never heard of the Iditarod, the longest and most famous dog sled race in the world. It happens in winter in Alaska. Would it concern you that in the past few years Alaska has had to start the race many miles north of its traditional starting point in Wasilla? Why? Not enough snow. In Alaska. In the winter. How about hauling in snow to Nome, Alaska, so there’s enough for the dog sleds to run on to end the race. In Alaska’s winter. How about miles of the race with little snow at all. This wasn’t gradual. It happened over just a very few years. And it’s continuing.

Cyclical? Check the science books you never read. Planet cycles are often described as taking place over millions of years. Certainly thousands. Or hundreds. Not a “few” years. In any case, why take a chance that you’re right? If you’re wrong, it will be too late. And the destruction of species and the planet as we know it will be well underway. You and the other clueless people are who have their heads in the sand really bother the rest of us who have our eyes open to the world. We don’t even need scientists to tell us what anyone with a keen sense for the obvious (not you) would know.

Major changes are happening far more quickly that the history of past “cycles” would indicate. Check those cycles in some elementary text book, in one of the grades that you, and others here, obviously skipped.

    MDN MW: “future”

  135. You’re telling me that you’ll use a shite computer because of a picture on the Apple website?

What if Apple’s home page sported swastikas and a Confederate flag? Would you just brush it off? After all it’d just be a picture…

The point is Apple is treading dangerous ground by identifying itself with something so controversial. Apple is committing the double-sin of politicizing itself by messing with things that have nothing to with Apple.
