My 14 year old Personal LaserWriter 320 is still going strong. Connected to my Time Capsule through an Asante LocalTalk bridge, it may be slow but it still churns out pages like a champ. And supported in SL. Let's see a 14 year old Dell printer keep up with Windows 7.

Apple made solid printers back in the day!

I have a client with a perfroma 475 and an apple imagewriter II (dot matrix!) that they use to run their business! everything still "Just Works"

the opencl compatibility chart is what i am watching for. my ati3870 is not currently supported... even though the architecture is in place.

Apple never "made printers" they rebranded printers like Dell still does, most of the printer with an Apple logo are in fact Canon printers, I was working at Apple when this was going on. I still use Canon printers to this day, Apple choose Canon because of their quality. If you check the serial label on the printer you will find in small print "made for Apple by_______"

If MS had sold an operating system with as many incompatibilities, the Apple fanbois would be spewing their "righteous" indignation. However, when Apple releases an OS with significant incompatibilities there is little condemnation from the fanbois. I reckon Apple fanbois expect more from MS than Apple.

These were my thoughts as well. Everything always worked before as apple had supplied all available drivers. Now with the reduced size, it's easy to see where they cut back. Now it will be like MS.

I think this is a brilliant move. Via Software Update you can get what you need, when you need it, but you don't have to fill your hard drive with a bunch of useless crap. Just because disk space is cheap doesn't mean we should have to waste it. And this takes the guesswork out of figuring out what you need and finding and deleting what you don't. My desktop sees a new USB or Firewire device maybe once every 3 years (or more). Why carry drivers for the other 657 that were ever on the market?

Seriously, even 10 MB (megaBytes) is not worth much trouble. In this day and age we reason in terms of hundreds of MB if not a few TeraBytes.

Non of my Office Xerox DC or WC printers are supported, and non of my Production Xerox Nuvera 144 \ 288 or DC 5500 printers are supported., My eSATA card is not supported. This is a Bag of hurt SN is on a truck to be delivered in the next 2 hours and I don't think I can use it!!!

This is one of the reasons why I always wait for updates from external hardware manufacturers and from Apple. My excellent scanner, the Canon 5200F isn't supported. Damn it, I hope Canon updates this very soon. There's no way I'm updating so I can then dump a perfetcly good scanner. For the windows' supporters my printer is supported.

"No Doubt" obviously didn't look at the KB articles mentioned. The lists of incompatible apps is very short, and comprised primarily of older versions of apps for which there is a newer, compatible version. Still using Parallels v3? Well you should've upgraded to v4 by now anyway.

While I concur regarding the hypocrisy of the Macolyte community, the incompatibility phenomenon is simply unavoidable. When you make major changes to the underpinnings of an OS, you will have incompatibilities. Given the type of changes made and the anticipated direction of OS X, it's a hit Apple has to be willing to take--they just get a pass from their userbase vis a vis M$.

True. But in all accuracy, that's because every Windows version works with far, far more peripherals than have ever worked on any Apple platform.

That sir is the difference, *MOST ALL* accessories I have ever had with any of the dozen macs i've own'd work better than *WELL*..

The occasional exception was usually because of crappy drivers or software from the device manufacturer.

I've wasted more productivity trying to get this or that gadget to work on windows and linux to know. There is a reason it is called plug and pray.

The incompatibility report provided by Apple is not as inclusive as http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/. Bear in mind this list has been published less than one week after Snow Leopard's release.

Also, Dave Pogue, has reported other glitches and defects in apps running on Snow Leopard. Most importantly, are glitches with Office. For those of us who have to communicate with other people in the MS world, these problems are an insult and a disservice.

In time, more users will find some of their trusty apps also buried deep amongst the turds in Snow Leopard's litter box. No fear, Apple will simply dismiss their experiences as insignificant, demonstrating once again, that if Apple considers your problem nonexistent or irrelevant then you had better shut up and get used to it.

Finally, fanbois, when you write that OS X is not a crappy as Windows is this to be interpreted as glowing praise for its design.

The anti-Apple trolls are so transparent, it's almost amusing. But then, you had to know the larger anti-Apple machine would be working overtime on Snow Leopard launch day, as Psystar clearly demonstrated.
