  1. I’m leaving work soon to go to my local Carphone Warehouse to try to get an iPhone but before I go, I just want to say this to my fellow purchasers:

Good morning. In less than an hour, Macheads from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest smartphone battle in the history of mankind. “Mankind.” That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today is the Ninth of November, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom… Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from inferior cellphone companies. We are fighting for our right to talktime. To email. And should we win the day, the Ninth of November will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: “We will not go quietly into the night!” We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our iNdependence Day!

  2. has anyone verified the source of this. May be legit, but I have no way of knowing.

to install it click the restore button in iTunes while holding down cmd-crtl (then navigate to the dl’s file (unzipped)

  3. allright for folks that do not know how to get the zip file to the iphone, here it is:

    download the link,
go to itunes, and while holding the option/alt key, hit the “check for updates” in ur phone tab. a window will pop up and just select the zip file and hit ok. that should automatically take care of it. thanx MDN for makin it so easy **roll eyes**

  4. @ Dirty Pierre le Punk: Well said. That’s part of what I and my (just made) friends felt here in the states as we stood in line back on iPhone Frinday in late June. We also felt comfortably warm, but you guys can keep your upper lips just really stiff and not be bothered by miserable weather, right?! Hope you have fun. In any case, I’m sure you won’t regret your purchase!

  5. Holy shit, Apple got the idea of the battery indicator in iTunes from me!

Remember months ago, right here on MDN, I made the suggestion in comments and you guys pointed me to a place on the Apple website where you can submit ideas to them? Well I did it and low and behold, you can see when your battery is charged right there in iTunes!

Maybe Steve will contact me for more of R2’s bright ideas.

  6. When I point to the zip file:

it opens the file.. menaing I have to choose one of the files in the zip.

If I choose any file- it errors out, and deletes the file.

It is not as simple as pointing to the zip file for me- anyone else running into this?
