Apple posts QuickTime video of Phil Schiller’s Macworld Expo keynote presentation
Tuesday, January 06, 2009 - 07:59 PM EST

Apple StoreWatch Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, unveil Apple’s latest innovations at Macworld 2009.

See the video-on-demand event (1:34:53), exclusively in QuickTime and MPEG-4, here.

MacDailyNews Note: [Added 9:05pm ET as per reader feedback below] A helpful hint: If the movie isn't streaming well to you, that's likely due to heavy traffic for this particular video. Ease back on your streaming demands and you'll get a better stream:

System Preferences/QuickTime/Streaming/Streaming Speed

QuickTimes uses this setting when streaming media to you via the Internet. Lower it until the stream works for you and then just put it back up when you're done.

aint workin'

Jan 06, 09 - 08:52 pm Comment from: Lars K.S. Olsen

Why can't Apple fix their QuickTime encoder perfect...? Here from the remote country of Santa Claus -Greenland, it is quit impossible to view the stream; pixilated, and sound quality as breaking bad as the very early shortwave radio signals.

In ancient System 8 and 9 epoch we could manually fix the buffer of say 15 seconds rather than just 3 second now.
I had tried to look for Apple support sites about QT.

Do anyone out there have any QT streaming fix ideas...?

FFS Phil, sort this stream out. This makes you look like crap

i'm not getting anything, just a disconnect when it tries to play.

too much demand on the servers?

No problem here. Watching in Denmark, Europe. Phil Schiller did a decent job. Not as good as Steve, but decent enough.

Jan 06, 09 - 10:09 pm Comment from: Alec

Oh My God!!! Has Phil lost weight?

Jan 06, 09 - 10:31 pm Comment from: BGuy

I think a lot of people are missing the point. Notice that 4 or 5 Apple employees were featured on the show with significant "parts", not just walk on/walk off. This was intended to show the depth of Apple - that it is not a one man show. Pretty smart, I'd say.

Jan 06, 09 - 11:14 pm Comment from: MacLovin

why can't we just download it in iTunes? Why is it that its always uploaded as a stream to the apple site and THEN released on iTunes 3-5 days later with the exact same video? (at least I think this is whats happening...)

Jan 06, 09 - 11:21 pm Comment from: caddisfly

just watched it and IMHO Phil did a good job

Is anyone else's QuickTime Player crashing when they try to resize the QuickTime window while watching the streaming video? MacBook Pro running 10.5.6 over here.

Jan 06, 09 - 11:40 pm Comment from: Lurker_PC

Worked fine for me, no problems as of 10 PM EST.

Peace.

@MDN Take

Dr. Egon Spengler: Don't cross the streams.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Why?
Dr. Egon Spengler: It would be bad.

Why is it not available as a podcast in iTunes?

I think Phil did better than Steve Jobs. I mean, after apple releases a set of brand new, top of the line macbooks and macbook pros before christmas, who would want to buy more hardware afterwards? We need software to improve our user experience. I think the new iLife and iWork do just that.

and Phill Schiller doesn't say "wuotomatically"

Jan 07, 09 - 02:03 am Comment from: ken1w

I thought Phil did a great job with the "Philnote." The best aspect was that he didn't try to be Steve Jobs. He was effective in his own way. He is Mr. Demo, and he was best up there when he was demoing the new software. And the guy who came on to demo the new iMovie did a fantastic job explaining the new feature in iMovie.

I thought watching demos of iLife and iWork would be boring, but it was actually very engaging. Some of the new features are amazing, such as Face Detection/Recognition in iPhoto and the Learn to Play stuff in GarageBand. Apple, the hardware company, does software better than anyone else. The part about the 17-inch MacBook Pro was actually a bit boring.

With no more MacWorld keynote addresses in the future, I hope Phil gets to do more of these presentations.

I'm really glad to see nobody criticised Phil. I really enjoyed his keynote and the new versions of iWork and iLife are pretty compelling.

I'm glad to see that they have made Numbers charts update automatically in Keynote and Pages but I would like to know if tables do too. That would be so useful.

Jan 07, 09 - 06:36 am Comment from: R

He did a good job. And agree, iLife is really cool. Look at the leap iMovie has made in a year! I can only imagine what the pro apps are going to be like soon.

Just get it as a podcast from iTunes. It's there now. Let it download in full then watch with no stuttering in high quality. Here's the iTunes Store link:

I like Phil, but this keynote punctuates how much he is NOT the logical successor to Steve Jobs. He simply doesn't have the style or charisma. You have to be born with it. He needs to send a few pounds to Stevo, and things will work out. Steve's shoes will be impossible to fill...impossible! Long live Steve Jobs!

@ Alec
Good one.

Jan 07, 09 - 12:34 pm Comment from: Jeff

Now available on iTunes as a 1GB download.
Under Apple Keynotes.

Jan 07, 09 - 10:47 pm Comment from: Dave

I can see it all now, by tomorrow morning the CNET headlines will probably read something like this: "oh my gosh Phil looks way too heavy! I think he's prone for a heart attack! no worse an aneurism!! He looks unhealthy, he needs a diet, quick borrow those protein eating do-dads from Steve!, quick Steve get some fat from Phil!" OH NO Apple stock holders watched the same show and thought the same thing!! now apple stock is reeling from from too much of Phil and not enough of Steve
boy that was fun!
