Visualizers? WOW!

I think those were interesting in 1997.

Sep 28, 07 - 04:07 pm Comment from: That 70's Guy

THREE? Really? Three new visualizers? I can hardly wait, then I can finally put my Lava Lamp on ebay.

Just give me a release date would you?

Sep 28, 07 - 04:09 pm Comment from: Zune Tang

Sure Apple preps new iTunes visualizers. It's all they've got pending the next update of Microsoft's marvelous Zune Marketplace, which will be packed with FEATURES. Then Apple will finally have some "new" ideas for iTunes.

Hey iPOD lemmings, time to end the misery. Try media software with more than just visualizers. Get a Zune and see how the other half lives.

Your potential. Our passion.™

Seriously, just make them screensavers and they would be enjoyed a whole lot more.

Sep 28, 07 - 04:17 pm Comment from: neomonkey

Article doesn't say if Andy O'Meara did them, though I'd be surprised if he didn't. G-Force is cool too.

Sep 28, 07 - 04:18 pm Comment from: Flackman

Similar to Whole Foods, I wonder if Zune Tang is actually Steve Ballmer?

Sep 28, 07 - 04:19 pm Comment from: Grigori

Hey, I love visualizers... but Emil is right, they should be screensavers. It's that or look at my boring desktop all the time. Brian Eno's got the right idea.

Sep 28, 07 - 04:29 pm Comment from: I love glossy

Wow, it's like the record player I had as a kid that used to flash different colored lights when it played music.

This will be great for business customers....when they are high.

Sep 28, 07 - 04:30 pm Comment from: Spark

Visualizers give me acid flashbacks. That's why I like 'em. I can shut them off when I've had enough, unlike the real thing.

Sep 28, 07 - 04:41 pm Comment from: JAYGEE

Thanks for telling us this breaking news MDN!

Sep 28, 07 - 04:53 pm Comment from: Connor MacBook

ZT, don't you mean "how the other 0.00001%" lives?

(Okay, I know we Mac users are a minority, but we're no longer an endangered species like Zune losers ... er, I mean users)

Sep 28, 07 - 05:03 pm Comment from: pr

My visualizer seems snappier

Sep 28, 07 - 05:07 pm Comment from: You're kidding.

Whole Foods is Steve Ballmer?

Sep 28, 07 - 06:03 pm Comment from: ken1w

What's old is new again.

Sep 28, 07 - 09:35 pm Comment from: Visualizers vs Screensavers

I guess a couple of you need a visit from Cap'n Obvious.

A screensaver doesn't (usually) react to sound/music. A visualizer does (usually) react to sound/music.

You could modify a visualizer to be a screensaver, sure, but it probably wouldn't make a very good screensaver.

Sep 28, 07 - 10:29 pm Comment from: Sweet Regina

Brian Eno?

Sep 29, 07 - 12:14 am Comment from: Reality Check

Aha. So are these the Top Secret features coming in Leopard that Steve Jobs promised us all? Or was that just marketing hype as usual?

Sep 29, 07 - 07:14 am Comment from: Hm ...

@ Reality Check

Perhaps you've forgotten that since Steve initially demoed Leopard and said 'secret features' a long time ago, we've seen — in recent demos — Time Machine and Spaces, among other features. 'Secret' a year ago, doesn't mean 'secret' now when the release is imminent and betas are all over the place ...

iPod Lemmings? Please. Lemmings are animals that follow each other over cliffs without any idea where they are going. Kind of sounds like MS supporters. If Microsoft would come up with ANYTHING on their own, that would be amazing. They continually TRY to copy anything Apple and if you'll check into history a little, you'll find that NONE of their so-called innovations were their own. Everything that they have is either achieved by buying another company or just outright theft. Read all the info at this link http://www.mcmillan.cx/innovation.html#c_compiler. They didn't innovate anything with the Zune either. It's an old Toshiba item. If you're into "Happening" things, I guess turd brown or the stolen black and white are good colors.
At least with visualizers in iTunes, I can listen to music, watch a relatively interesting light show and not be bothered by stupid questions from the software. And here's another idea for you Winderze addicts. You spew on and on about MS innovations. Guess what? Windows hasn't changed for at least ten years. Unless you consider smoke and mirrors to be change. I feel sorry for MSers that continually smear anything Apple just because it's Apple.
I feel sorry for you MSers. But I guess stupid decisions are yours to make.

Is the Mac side (not iPhone or iPod) so devoid of real news that this is considered worthy as "news"?

Real news about Leopard seem to be missing. Like the "Widgets" craze of Tiger, everyone seems to be focused on irrelevant eye candy.

I want to know if Leopard will be faster and more responsive or bloated with useless gimmicks.

Sep 29, 07 - 12:39 pm Comment from: DogGone

Not very interesting true. But from what I can tell, Leopard is just around the corner. The last build looks rock solid.

Sep 29, 07 - 01:05 pm Comment from: Mental

Apple is prepping a Vista pulverizer.

Sep 29, 07 - 03:35 pm Comment from: Bdondan

HEY HEY HEY.... I love my freaking widgets.

Sep 29, 07 - 04:04 pm Comment from: Steve Ballmer

MS VideoMusicMediaPlayer 1.01 already had visuals named the same thing!

El Primitivo. You are calling this newsworthy?

Sep 30, 07 - 07:54 am Comment from: Jon E Wunnut

My kids love the visualizer. I can't understand the hate. Thet are good to turn on when you want some music in the background.

Sep 30, 07 - 08:41 pm Comment from: Neil

1. Widgets were never a craze.

2. This IS news compared to anything Micros**t.

"Is the Mac side (not iPhone or iPod) so devoid of real news that this is considered worthy as "news"?"

It's important for Mac fanboys to scrape up some "Secret special features" so they can pretend that Steve wasn't just lying to them when he said that.

We're going to hear for the next year, "but Steve didn't lie, we got 3 new iTunes visualizations"
