Apple preps first Maine retail store

“Apple Stores have a lot in common with the products they sell — shiny, sleek and easy to use,” Justin Ellis reports for The Portland Press Herald.

“Now Mainers should prepare to get in line. Apple appears to be on the verge of opening its first retail store in Maine this year,” Ellis reports.

“The maker of the MacBook laptop, the iPod and the iPhone has quietly made moves to open an Apple Store at the Maine Mall, according to job listings on Apple.com,” Ellis reports.

“Ads for store managers, sales representatives, creative artists and inventory specialists have also been posted on job search site Monster.com,” Ellis reports.

“A spokeswoman for the company would not confirm the location of a new store and declined to talk about the job postings,” Ellis reports.

“Apple operates 208 stores; the one closest to Maine is in Salem, N.H. In December, the company announced it would open at least 40 new stores in 2008,” Ellis reports.

  1. I wonder where it’s going? The Maine Mall is a bit downscale for Apple, but I guess it has no choice as Maine is bereft of upscale malls. But where in the mall? There might be a space next to Victoria’s Secret, that used to be Eddie Bauer, that I think was missing.

  2. Big deal. It’s still too far, 4 1/2 hrs for me.

Should be in Bangor or at least Augusta, the state capital.

At least now when I order from the Apple Store they’ll have a legitimate reason to charge me sales tax.

  3. Dear Steve,

Please locate the store someplace Mainers over 16 like to go. A lot of us hate the Maine Mall and try to avoid going anywhere near it. How about Freeport instead? At least it would be convenient to the highway and in good company with L.L. Bean, Cole Haan, Thos. Moser and Cold River Vodka.
