Apple refines Dock menus in latest Mac OS X Snow Leopard developer build
Friday, July 10, 2009 - 01:48 PM EST

"Apple on Thursday evening delivered to developers a new build of its forthcoming Snow Leopard operating system that addresses a number of outstanding bugs but also delivers a couple of interface tweaks," Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.

"The new build, labeled 10A402a, weighs in at roughly 1.3GB and was distributed via Snow Leopard's Software Update mechanism. It's the second such build to arrive in that manner in as many weeks, signaling ongoing tests to the new version of the system's automatic software updater," Marsal reports.

"The Dock's contextual pop-up menus [have been] re-skinned in a charcoal motif with white text," Marsal reports.

Aha - this *must* be evidence of Marble!!

...but probably not. wink

Either way, as someone whose eyes are strained by bright-text-on-dark-background visuals, I hope they provide an option to deactivate this, so I can use the standard menu look instead.

Redmond has lost their marbles. Looks like Apple has picked them up.

Did Apple hire a fashion designer?

@ It's About Time

Apple has a whole department of designers and yes, I think one of them is a former Fashion Designer (Watches, Jewelry, Perfume bottles and other things for DKNY.

There's a lot of changes to the Dock... you can also minimize windows into the application icon rather than taking up their own space on the Dock shelf.

The new menus look good as well as the new interaction within the stacks feature.

Pretty! Now if they would just do the same to that ghastly white '80s-looking menu bar at the top of the screen.

Oh gawd, I hope not! Which probably means they'll do it and offer no alternative without 3rd party hacks

@Michael,

"There's a lot of changes to the Dock... you can also minimize windows into the application icon rather than taking up their own space on the Dock shelf."

REALLY!?!?! How come this hasn't been posted before? This is big for us chronic minimizers (I'm a chronic hider myself (command-H)). Is it the default or a setting you need to change or a keyboard command (ie. hold down the option key for example to get a window to minimize into the apps icon)?

@ I like!,
Turn on transparency. Now it's not ghastly white!

@Cubert

Now it's GHOSTLY white!
