Uh, you are missing a huge point to this update... It now enables wireless Time Machine support!

I guess I'm wrong about the statement I made. My apologies.

I ran the update while Airfoil was streaming Internet Sirius to my Express, and by God, if it don't sound snappier....

I wonder if this will fix video iChat wireless connection issues...

Actually this fixes a pretty embarrassing shortcoming of the Airport Express - my dad just bought a new MacBook and an Airport Express, and then he couldn't install the Airport software because his computer was "too new". Whoever heard of such a thing? But he couldn't do it. I thought he was missing the obvious, but sure enough he'd been on the Apple forums and found that this was indeed the case. Guess I can call him to tell him this is available now.

I already have an AirPort Extreme Base Station and a number of external hard drives and would really like to be able to connect one of these to the USB port and effectively have a Time Capsule equivalent without having to go buy an actual Time Capsule. This update does not appear to enable that much to my chagrin. I may end up buying one, but I don't think it's fair not to be able to have this functionality when for all intents and purposes an AirPort Extreme is a Time Capsule, minus the internal hard drive.

I am more inclined to believe that the back up through AEBS & Time Machine is due to the latency inherent in the transfer from wireless to a USB device, hence the Time Capsule which because it is a built in hard drive, will not have that. I agree with the fact that it sucks, but I think that having a complete backup vs. one with potentially corrupt data is more important.

Too bad the provided links don't work.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to root around the Apple site.

Nope, you can connect a USB HD to a TimeCapsule and it works like advertised. Their goes your theory.

Does anyone know if this update fixes the recent 10.5.2 network drops?

(FYI: since 10.5.2, Airport has been regularly dropping connections with various machines often requiring one to disable and re-enable Airport on the affected machine. N.B. It doesn't affect everyone, but this update may have some effect, although personally I think it's in OS X, not AIrport, but hey, whatever voodoo works right?)

@Mac-nugget
Notice I was referring to a USB HD and the AEBS. Thanks.

@eluspac emit

Yeah he knows that, and so does everyone else. You can STILL hook up a HDD to the USB port on the Time Capsule and that USB-connected HDD will work with Time Machine. Do we need to say it more clearly for you?

There goes your theory... again.

Anyone else want to reiterate?
