Short answer is NO. Apple is facing a very serious problem with its pro applications — all of them are loaded with Carbon legacy code, and it is unclear what resources Apple is putting into moving them to Cocoa, and thus allowing them to be 64-bit.

For what it is worth, Adobe has the same problem with its pro graphics apps, including Photoshop, and has made it clear that it will be several years (CS5) before the Mac gets a 64-bit version of Photoshop or Illustrator.

This is a shame all around, since every Mac shipping today is a true 64-bit computer, hardware AND OS. With any luck, we will see more action on 64-bit apps after Snow Leopard ships.

  2. Okay, so I ran the update and it doesn’t think I have “Aperture 2.0 or greater” on my system… Hmmm… Looks like Aperture 2.1… Smells like… Well it stinks, that’s what it does… Guess it’s time for a call to Apple….

Just to clarify: Are you saying only FCP/E has any Carbon code, or it is the only one with a lot of Carbon code? My impression was that all of the Studio apps used Carbon to one degree or another, altho FCP was the worst, since it was originally developed by MacroMind to run under OS9.

    Curious minds want to know…
