  1. Really “No 5th Cup of Coffee Yet”? What board do you think you’re on? The rant and rave board on Craigslist? Chill, dude. And what’s with the megaton of abbreviated cursing? How old are you? Seriously. Anger management seems to be in order, not to mention, you’re still down a cup of coffee which is probably why you’re so neurotic.

On a happy note, Apple is being a reliable and responsible computer company by releasing the things we need to keep moving on in life and business.

  2. I’m sure I’m stating the obvious, but it’s much easier to download the drivers for your specific printer directly from your printer makers web site.

In my case, drivers for print and scan, as well as all available software packages for my Canon MP980 multi function is less than 141 MB.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the I do have the most up to date driver for my ML-6060. It works fine on the USB port, but Snow Leopard won’t recognize it on the network. Nor will Snow Leopard recognize a hard-drive on my fire-wire network, but it will recognize 2 CD burners on the same fire-wire. I’m sure Apple will figure out this stuff at some point.
    Assuming they are willing to bother with it. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

    ‘Course it’s still several orders of magnitude better than a PC. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  4. If you use software update, it will download the specific driver you need for your printer.

My download was 8.5MBs for a PIXMA MP500

(and please don’t scream at me for NOT downloading all of them and saving some space….I gotta headache)

  5. Still no support for Cannon Mulit-functional Printers when used on a network (IPP). I’m using a ‘Apple Airport Express’ to connect to my Canon MP610. And I just get reliable printing but no Scanning functions etc.

When will the multi-function be supported over a network connection?
I bet the new WIFI built-in printer support multi-functions…
    Cheers

Just before these drivers were released I had tried hooking my Canon to the USB port on my Airport Extreme and used an ethernet to my iMac, still no love in the network-scan department even wired!

    Here is my next choice

I would have preferred the white that HP has. I bought a 6380 for my girlfriend, and it works great and looks good with her G4 iMac.

  7. Jase:

I’ve have the Canon 980 wireless multifunction printer since March. Under 10.6 it was an instant connection over my home network using Airport Express either from my main computer or a MBP I also have. I initially did a zeroed-out, clean install of SL. I did not have to jump through any hoops under SL as the printer was recognized even before the print/scan drivers were loaded. Scanning and printing works fine, either USB or wireless.

This isn’t much help, but at least I think it means your problem isn’t with SL.

  8. Hey all. On a different note, I’m looking at getting a Canon Pixma to replace a Xerox 6180. Nothing wrong with the Xerox, just going to sell it at a profit. Is the print quality good? Is it fast enough?
    I await your comments.

I’m using the ip5300, I bought it to do on location portrait printing so yes it is fast and very good on quality if you do the homework. Just remember not all pixmas are equal.
So now that the drivers are basically there I just have to wait for DXO to update before I can make the just to SL.

  10. Anyone had trouble with their Brother MFC-6490CW under 10.6 over airport? Mine will scan fine but will not print a document. The printer receives the data but then deletes the document from the print queue as if the printing has occurred, without actually printing….???

  11. MadMac sez: “There goes more of that SL disk space savings!!!!!”

Go into /Library/Printers/ and trash the printers you don’t use. I did the extra installation from the DVD to get one printer driver. Then I trashed the rest. I saved about 900 MB.

Also of interest: Gutenprint is now up to version 5.2.4, a step up from what comes with Snow Leopard. It’s a stable track version. I installed it. Works fine.

  12. chemgeek sez: ” “This volume does not meet requirements for this update.” “

Install on your boot volume, and it MUST be Snow Leopard.

jaundiced sez: “it’s much easier to download the drivers for your specific printer directly from your printer makers web site.”

Oddly, some printer drivers are ONLY on the SL DVD. For example, go to the Epson site and it is common for them NOT have the latest driver. So they refer you back to your MOSX install DVD, which DOES have the latest driver. Beats me why. Epson have been weird like that for years.

  13. Hi All!

Here you have a workaround to install networked/local Canon MF42xx/43xx (and other UFR2):

    1. download and install UFR driver version 2.00 from this location: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=124&modelid=17450

2a. add network printer: System Preferences > Print & Fax > + > IP > HP JetDirect – Socket; provide IP address; Print Using: Other… and point your printer’s PPD located in Software > English > PPD folder of downloaded disk image

2b. add USB printer: ystem Preferences > Print & Fax > + > Default > choose your printer from the list; Print Using: Other… and point your printer’s PPD located in Software > English > PPD folder of downloaded disk image

3, that’s all. Canon does not even know, that have a WORKING driver for whole series of UFR2 printers!!!

    best,

    DeMonter
