Snap-pi-er!

Apr 08, 08 - 04:56 pm Comment from: Chip

I used to use firmware all the time, but nowadays I find it a little bit scratchy.

Apr 08, 08 - 04:59 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

it's snaptastic

Apr 08, 08 - 04:59 pm Comment from: Zuno the Clown

The AL Keyboard firmware is really snappy!
I can type faster and make fewer typos!
Now I won't have to upgrade my word processor.

Apr 08, 08 - 04:59 pm Comment from: eWorldian

My aluminum keyboard now feels a little tinny... snappier too!

Apr 08, 08 - 05:02 pm Comment from: Snappy.

See name.

Apr 08, 08 - 05:08 pm Comment from: S

My keyboard is snippier! (oops, sorry, a typo. snappier)

Apr 08, 08 - 05:32 pm Comment from: BiZarRo BaLlmEr

crackle-y

Apr 08, 08 - 05:35 pm Comment from: Leader

Evidently if you have the most recent MBP or MB it doesn't apply.

Apr 08, 08 - 05:43 pm Comment from: pxlmixer

Note to self: I need some snap.

Oh.. lookie here..?!!

Apr 08, 08 - 05:44 pm Comment from: Neglected

I have the original 17" MacBook Pro -- the Core Duo (not C2D) model from 2006. I haven't been included in these firmware updates for quite some time. What is it:

1) There's nothing to improve upon with my model
2) All the development is focussed on the newer models.

I feel that I'm being neglected. My MacBook Pro runs great for the most part, but it does suffer the occasional glitch and kernel panic.

Anyone else with this model feel that they could use improvements in their firmware?

Apr 08, 08 - 05:44 pm Comment from: Luke

Pop-ey

Apr 08, 08 - 05:52 pm Comment from: pxlmixer

I'd be manic about my kernel too. I think everyone is - to some degree. So - yes. I support you. Freekin Apple - fix that kernel panic. Who needs the stress...

Apr 08, 08 - 05:57 pm Comment from: Essence

I'm looking for something to fix my MacBook fan. I just got the 2.2 Black MacBook and the fan loves to run full blast, even when it's not very hot. My older 1.8 MacBook didn't seem to have that problem. Anyone else have that issue? (It doesn't seem to always listen to the settings I've set in Fan Control.)

Apr 08, 08 - 06:09 pm Comment from: mullum

my macbook says i dont need the update (1st gen original macbook) despite not having the boot rom indicated in the info page (MB31.008E.B02).

Apr 08, 08 - 06:10 pm Comment from: Whatever

Why would you mess with fan control? do you want to roast your processor? Get some more ram and it will help..

Apr 08, 08 - 06:13 pm Comment from: paddywack

No snap for me.

Apr 08, 08 - 06:15 pm Comment from: Essence

I can't get more RAM - got 4 gigs. Fan Control won't let you roast the processor. The problem is that the fan isn't always listening to the fan settings and just cranks itself up to full speed and stays there. I'm thinking the internal thermostat may be faulty, but wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem.

Apr 08, 08 - 06:21 pm Comment from: Snap. Crackle. Popl

My snap is snappier than the snappiest.

I have the most recent Macbook 2.4ghz. Upon downloading a message popped up saying the update wasn't "needed." Yet, my boot version differs from the one the update is supposed to provide.

Me feel neglected too, Neglected!

Apr 08, 08 - 06:44 pm Comment from: Darkness

If it fixes the occasional wake from sleep issues I have with my MacBook Pro I'll be a happy camper.

Apr 08, 08 - 06:59 pm Comment from: Bob

Essence-
Get rid of fan control (whichever one you have) and shut down the laptop and do an Opt-Cmd-R-P startup. Hold all of those keys down RIGHT AFTER you press the power button to start the computer and hold them until after you hear the SECOND startup chime. That will reset your PRAM and NVRAM. If that doesn't fix it then maybe a sensor has gone bad or gotten disconnected that tells the system how hot the CPU is. I think they fail in the the "safe" direction (i.e. run the fan). Those fan control programs fiddle with settings that can sometimes get messed up.

Apr 08, 08 - 07:16 pm Comment from: Switcher

Note to Essence: My iMac G5 had a problem with the fan being on full whenever it wasn't asleep. I took it in and the main board was replaced under warranty. That cured it.

Hope this helps.

The firmware updates killed my family and raped my dog!!!

Apr 08, 08 - 07:24 pm Comment from: Cubert

@chip,
That was freakin' hilarious! You get today's award.

Apr 08, 08 - 08:53 pm Comment from: makemineamac

@ Darkness - The wake from sleep problem was driving me crazy. Try the link below. It appears this was some sort of tip from last year, yet appears to work today on my Leopard MBP.

Anyway, you may want to try it out:

Apr 08, 08 - 09:14 pm Comment from: Mad Mac Maniac

HAHAHAHAHA!!! My MacBook Pro is peeerrrrfect!! No firmware updates needed!!

All you others have overheating/overclocked processors and will HAVE TROUBLE LATER!!

Also I love Tiger....Leopard is renamed Leoptard.

Apple should be ashamed producing such crap lately.

The beatings will continue until the products improve...

It's the pirate way...

Apr 08, 08 - 09:18 pm Comment from: Beaker

Interesting comment Mad Mac....

Anyway, my MacBook Pro came 3 days after the tuesday they were announced (the new one with the multi-touch touchpad). I guess it came with the update...and that was just over a month ago. Gives you an idea of how long things take to get out there.

Apr 08, 08 - 09:28 pm Comment from: BSOD

My MacBook Pro has version MBP31.0070.B05 and the update would not load either. It is a 2.6 that I bought myself for Christmas.

Apr 08, 08 - 09:39 pm Comment from: woof-x

@ Neglected

I too have the non-core duo MacBook Pro. What is it that makes our computers supposedly not need these updates? i want updates. Gimme two!

Apr 08, 08 - 10:08 pm Comment from: Snapalooza

All the cool people are going.

Apr 08, 08 - 11:36 pm Comment from: Jubei

Mine is now crackalakin snappy. grin

Apr 08, 08 - 11:49 pm Comment from: Walter Chillum

Cubert,

I think you get the award, it was a breath of fresh air not read about snap, crackle and pop.

Good one dude.

For some reason I now have an urge for Rice Bubbles. Mmm.

Apr 09, 08 - 01:10 am Comment from: FatMac

Snap-a-licious!

Apr 09, 08 - 03:04 am Comment from: Yours Smugly

No snap for me, either. 1st gen (the non-C2D) MacBook here.

Apr 09, 08 - 04:36 am Comment from: Waltewr Chillum

Oooh! Never done a firmware update before. That sound my iMac made sounded like a strangled start-up chime. I guessed it worked…I think I'll go back to those Rice Bubbles.

Apr 09, 08 - 06:41 am Comment from: macca

1st gen MBP here. no update either. i love my machine... but i was pretty po'd that they came out with the C2D less than a year later - that's like going from a G4 to a G5. 64 bit. 802.11n... no updates! c'mon, apple! how about some love for the early adopters?

Apr 09, 08 - 06:58 am Comment from: hairbo

Did the firmware slow down anybody else's machine? Upon reboot, Safari and Mail were so slow to launch that I had to reboot again. The second time, apps reluctantly launched, but then my whole computer completely froze up during a movie (DVD, not iTunes).

ick.

Apr 09, 08 - 08:09 am Comment from: M.X.N.T.4.1

I enjoy getting updates for stuff on my Mac because they tend to make the thing better than it already was. On Windows it's a total pain I never got the sense of any benefit other than just cluttering my machine up further. All hail Apple.

Apr 09, 08 - 09:56 am Comment from: Tommyr

No update for my 1.82 Macbook. Guess it's snappy enough!

Apr 09, 08 - 10:13 am Comment from: Steve

1st gen Core Duo MacBook - no update, which is just as well, the laptop runs perfectly and is plenty fast.

The firmware and keyboard updates to my Core2Duo iMac on the other hand were kind of cool to install!

Apr 09, 08 - 11:52 am Comment from: Ann Coulter's vagina

I feel snappier!

Apr 09, 08 - 12:07 pm Comment from: Wandering joe

This update fixes a big glitch on the late 2007 MacBooks. They were unable to choose windows partitions at startup, by holding alt down. Now it works!! Thank you for listening Apple!!

Apr 09, 08 - 12:21 pm Comment from: FatMac

@ Ann Couter's ___________

Ouch!

Apr 09, 08 - 08:45 pm Comment from: Walter Chillum

Everything was going OK until I loaded that bloody firmware for my iMac. Now when I wake the computer from it's sleep mode I get a blue screen for about 5 seconds and then I get my desktop. Thanks Apple, thanks for nothing!. Next time I'm going back to what I normally do…wait a couple of weeks for the bugs to appear and then they're fixed. Grrr!

Apr 10, 08 - 12:33 am Comment from: Dave

wow! cool
thanks again Apple for coming through and "doing the right thing!"
This is why I like MAC!!!
