My 1st gen iPhone didn't go quietly into the 3.0 update. It wiped out my phone, required multiple reconnects and restarting iTunes to restore phone and then install software.

Now restoring from backup...

@Jim Graham:

You'll need to download the 3.0 GM Seed from developer.apple.com/iphone

Jun 17, 09 - 12:49 pm Comment from: Mary K

I just got of the phone with AT+T head of technical support.

He was very interested in hearing that iPhone users in the US can tether their iPhones when they are not supposed too.

I gave him the information how and what software is allowing this to happen, including links to MDN's instructions.

I will from now on, make it my hobby to locate and find all such processes and inform AT+T via a special email and hot line number they gave me.

I will also get a month free on my iPhone of service for every process I find that bypasses the legal use of AT+T networks.

I will be watching you MDN!!

Thanks for banning me!

Jun 17, 09 - 12:50 pm Comment from: jarrettdailynews

It took me about 25 total minutes from download to reboot. Great speed there compared to the first OS update to the iPhone ooohhh so long ago.

Jun 17, 09 - 12:50 pm Comment from: Jim Graham

@Jimithy
Already running the GM seed, so there are no changes?
Thanks.

Jun 17, 09 - 12:51 pm Comment from: LTD*

Updated.

No issues.

Easy to download and install but not too snappy. The browser seems a little slower. Copy and paste is awesome!! The search is also very very well done. Very happy overall.

New iPhone Is Better Model -- Or Just Get OS 3.0

Jun 17, 09 - 01:13 pm Comment from: alansky

I just posted the following note on the Apple iPhone discussion forum:

After updating my iPhone to 3.0, two new screens have been added: Screen 1 is now the Spotlight search screen, Screen 2 is the Home screen, and Screen 3 is empty except for the single app icon that was bumped from the Home screen to make room for the new built-in Voice Memos app. Fine.

The problem is that by deciding to insert a new blank screen right after the Home screen, Apple has made it necessary for iPhone users to move and rearrange every screen full of app icons in order to return things to the way they were before the update.

It would have made much better sense to add the extra blank page at the end, leaving everyone's carefully arranged app screens undisturbed. For me personally, the damage is done. I have no choice but to move everything back one screen, one icon at a time. But the iPhone engineers really ought to think of some way to make all this extra work unnecessary.

Jun 17, 09 - 01:14 pm Comment from: Tommy Boy

The updating process is so not snappy.....

Jun 17, 09 - 01:14 pm Comment from: macman

App Store and iTunes Store took forever to load for the first time after updating.

Jun 17, 09 - 01:16 pm Comment from: alansky

@Northerncal98:

That's too bad. My 1G iPhone updated and restarted without a hitch. Everything is working fine except for the the app screens issue (see previous post).

Jun 17, 09 - 01:16 pm Comment from: steve32465

So far I'm not very impressed with this update. Not much new from what I can see. I thought it was supposed to have voice dialing feature?

Jun 17, 09 - 01:18 pm Comment from: mks11

Who the fsck is Mary K. and why was she banned?

Jun 17, 09 - 01:18 pm Comment from: Toasty

@alansky

They added the Voice Note to the home screen.

go to the last screen. Move one of your dock icons off to it.

go to the home screen. Move Voice Notes to the dock

now go to the second screen with one app and drag it back to the home screen.

go to the last screen, take the Voice Notes off the dock, and put your other icon back.

The empty page is not gone problem solved.

Good lord people. Use your brains.

Jun 17, 09 - 01:19 pm Comment from: Toasty

* the empty page is NOW gone.

Sorry, Typo

Jun 17, 09 - 01:20 pm Comment from: alansky

Word to the Wise:

If you remove one icon from the Home screen (leaving a blank space for the new Voice Memos app) before you update to 3.0, you won't have to move every app you own in order to restore your preferred arrangement.
