Apple has released iPod Reset Utility 1.0.2 for Mac which is used to restore the following iPod models back to their factory settings, when iTunes is unable to do so:

• iPod shuffle (1st Generation)
• iPod shuffle (2nd Generation)

The restore process completely erases all music and data on your iPod, and installs current iPod software on it.

Why does it take 3.46 MB of computer code to reset an iPod?

"Why does it take 3.46 MB of computer code to reset an iPod?"

Presumably the iPod's base OS and software is in there.

AWESOME. It brought my Shuffle back to life.

Just a week ago it stopped playing music and iTunes would not recognize it. It was dead. Now they release this utility and IT WORKS.

YAY! Apple is magic.

Now if I could just fix the clicking problem (and virtually impossible to load any songs) in my 3rd gen. ipod.

I downloaded it.. all good, but it didn't wipe anything off of it... I guess this allows me to IF I wanted to, but not necessarily automatically?
