I want to know if there will be an iPod Video 5.5 firmware or software update so that it will be able to have coverflow such as the new iPod Classic? It is pretty much the same iPod so why not?

Anthony
The update will only offer "anything new" if you presently own an iPhone or you buy an iPodtouch when it comes out at the end of September.

Don't think so if the new iPods are running OS X...

Sep 06, 07 - 08:36 am Comment from: Jerry T

@What about,

So why not?

Because Apple would prefer that you bought a new one. There's not a lot of money in free firmware updates.

I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to have coverflow on my two video iPods.

I just updated to 7.4. I don't see any new features. Am I missing something?

Sep 06, 07 - 09:01 am Comment from: Ringtones?

I just updated my iTunes and I see the Ringtones panel when I go to my iPhone, but where can I access the ringtones? In the picture theres a Ringtone panel on the left hand side, but I don't have that.

Anyone else experiencing this?

What about true custom ringtones from clips that you made.

Sep 06, 07 - 09:22 am Comment from: emax

I have an iPhone as well and I have no added features and it says its up to date in iTunes and I can't fine out how to make tones either

Sep 06, 07 - 09:31 am Comment from: Mini

Per the presentation yesterday, it will show up on the iPhone when a firmware update is released later this month.

Sep 06, 07 - 09:34 am Comment from: bwilson

they said in the keynote that the Ringtones feature in iTunes would be activated starting next week.

"You can now also play purchased videos with closed captioning (when available) . . ."

There's the c.c. some were waiting for.

Just downloaded iToner and wow -- free, unlimited ringtones from your iTunes collection TODAY... just drag and drop onto iPhone. http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/itoner/ Kind of steps all over this Apple ringtone thing....

Sep 06, 07 - 10:38 am Comment from: theloniousMac

What a load of crap. The Apple method of ringtones ONLY allows you to add ringtones based on PURCHASED music. If I want to take a sound off my computer that I created, for instance, I can't do that.

Tacky is an understatement.

On previous smart phone I would have the phone announce by name who was calling. This simple thing is IMPOSSIBLE with the iphone.

Sep 06, 07 - 10:48 am Comment from: Mike

The iTunes update wipes out all the ringtones you have added through iToner.

Sep 06, 07 - 10:53 am Comment from: theloniousMac

Thanks for the itoner heads up romeodawg, I just tried it and it works.

In the past every ringtone I've added to MY &^&&*()( iPhone, Microsoft, uh, Apple has taken it upon themselves to wipe out.

Mike says this will happen with ringtones I've added through iToner as well, however the iToner website says it will not.

Let's hope not because every day I grow a bit more angry with Apple due to their insulting control over such a small function on the iPhone.

I'm not one of the weird people who like full on music playing when a call comes through. I want simple sounds that I create to be used as ringtones. Once again, ANY FREAKING SMART PHONE ON THE MARKET CAN DO THIS, but not the handicapped iPhone.

They added album ratings, which is a nice feature I suggested a long time back.

Go to View Options... (Command-J) and check "Album Ratings". They'll appear as a column you can sort by. They guess the default rating -- it looks like the average of the individual song ratings. You can click to set a different rating, then sort your albums by rating.

Everyone . . . gather around the campfire and hurl unmitigated invective at all things Apple! Hate 'em! Stone 'em! Pillory 'em! Vivisect 'em! Draw and quarter 'em! Dump poopy on 'em!

It's time to get off the "pro" and jump on the "con" bandwagon!

Hurry! You don't want to be left behind!

Nice job with the closed captioning, Cupertino.

Sep 06, 07 - 01:33 pm Comment from: Brau

Oooh ... ringtones and Starbucks integration ... just what I've always wanted ... NOT! Can you say sellout?!!

Sep 06, 07 - 04:29 pm Comment from: Taub

Uh, my icons in the preferences window aren't showing up...anybody else experiencing this anomaly?

Sep 07, 07 - 01:30 am Comment from: fotty

I emailed iTunes support ages ago with a comment asking them for the functionality to rate albums. I'm so happy to see that they have done this. Obviously I wasn't the only one to ask but I do love to see proof that they listen to the customers needs. Thanks Apple!!
