Grr I just want wireless Time Machine backup... first??!

Oct 28, 07 - 12:56 am Comment from: Not Likely

I just found a major bug in Leopard, that I bet Apple will drop everything to fix

Tried to unlock an iPhone with SimmFree on my MacBook with Leopard, and no go

Had to switch over to my iMac Tiger, not a problem

Oct 28, 07 - 01:16 am Comment from: diamond

After installing this update my MacBook Pro could not find my internal hard drive start up disc. After several restarts with the same problem, I had to start up using the Leopard Install DVD and choose my internal hard drive as a start up disc. When I restarted, it was OK.

Oct 28, 07 - 01:24 am Comment from: Vlad

Doing an archive&install;with Leopard lost the keychains on my iMac G5 and a G4 Powermac, but my MacBook was fine. Also seemed to cause some other glitches in the keychains even when I re-imported from backup. Maybe this update is addressing that?

On the iMac it seemed to nuke the login keychain.

My toilet feels snappier!

Oct 28, 07 - 01:29 am Comment from: Beta

Sounds like Leopard still has some bugs in it. Oh, well. As long as Apple gets their money, no one really cares.

Oct 28, 07 - 01:31 am Comment from: Apple's Bitch

Apple: Defective from day one.

Oct 28, 07 - 01:35 am Comment from: Vlad

One thing I've noticed is that Spotlight is way... faster.

>.>

...Quicker.

Ok, ok, snappier.

Oct 28, 07 - 01:41 am Comment from: Leopard's a bit spotty

"Sounds like Leopard still has some bugs in it."

That's quite an understatement.. Take a look around Apple's Leopard forum, problems galore... Yeah, Yeah, I know people only complain in forums, but there are a lot of issues going on:

Oct 28, 07 - 01:55 am Comment from: Disaster

Sounds like upgrading to Leopard's a complete disaster. A little more testing next time perhaps...

Oct 28, 07 - 01:57 am Comment from: Steve

Archive and install and activity monitor did not open, so I knew it was time to wipe and do a virgin install. Having problems with Mail and passwords to my ISP. Maybe the new login/keychain update will help. Most of my programs work at first glance. Leopard needed another month. It is called coding on the run on this rev of 10._

Oct 28, 07 - 02:18 am Comment from: Me

Install worked great - one wipe, one upgrade. This probably represents the majority.

There are plenty of ways to get a jacked-up install. A bit of care usually avoids the problem.

Oct 28, 07 - 02:20 am Comment from: Me

Anyone notice that the installer allows a reboot later? Thank goodness! I sure appreciate that.

MDN Magic Word "material" as in material improvements across the board

Oct 28, 07 - 02:50 am Comment from: Hg Wells

I've also had some problems. However, in spite of them, I can see that Leopard is going to be VERY nice once these "little bugs" are fixed. Early adopters often have to live with problems for a while. Worth it to me. But I'll be happy if Apple releases an update sooner rather than later.

Oct 28, 07 - 02:52 am Comment from: KoolAid

Where is the MDN coverage of the unfolding Leopard disaster?

I forgot, Good news only for the Kool Aid Drinkers.

Fixed my problem with my mail. My fail NOT Leopards. Running good now!!

"My fault". I need to go to bed!!!

Oct 28, 07 - 03:14 am Comment from: Preston

I've not had a single problem with Leopard on two machines. I think this is their more problem-free first version of a product that I've ever tried.

Oct 28, 07 - 03:16 am Comment from: Umm

Sorry to disappoint the haters, but no disaster here. I upgraded 3 machines to Leopard and have had absolutely zero problems on any of them. But you keep on enjoying Vista all the same since we know it's totally bug free...

Oct 28, 07 - 03:18 am Comment from: Believe It

How many times are people going to go to the "new release" well before they realize "deja vu all over again". With Tiger I waited until 10.4.3. With Leopard, I may bite at 10.5.2 depending on user feedback etc.

An OS release is a big deal. Apple did not release Leopard to the development community (other than beta testers) until yesterday out of concern it would be leaked to the world prematurely. Well, it's going to take time before 3rd party apps are in full synch with Leopard's changes. In the meantime, early adopters whine and complain. Sheesh. You'd think early adopters would learn by now. smile

Oct 28, 07 - 03:59 am Comment from: Steve

Someone has to do it. CLONE your working earlier OS and be a tester.

Oct 28, 07 - 06:16 am Comment from: AWidgetIHaveNot

Is it me or does each successive release of OS X after Panther have more bugs? Sure way to put potential switchers like me off if each release has more bugs than the last. Meh, Apple test your software. I don't accept shoddy testing from Microsoft so why should I accept it from Apple. iTunes on XP is easy to use but is the buggiest piece of software I have ever used. Doesn't inspire confidence. I am sick of XP but I don't want be disappointed with OS X 10.5. It seems ok for Apple to have a couple of point releases to get the bugs out but no one extends this courtesy to MS do they? It's simple. There are no excuses for having lots of bugs. There are independent Mac developers who do a better job of testing and produce better quality software than Apple. At least that's the way it seems to me.

Oct 28, 07 - 06:50 am Comment from: Wingsy

What is this "disaster" you speak of? I've installed Leopard on 3 machines, a Macbook, an iMac and a Quad G5, and all 3 have been in constant use since Friday morning. No hiccups, no glitches, no "bugs", nuthin but smooth sailing and a little bit of "shock and awe" at some of the new features (Time Machine, Spaces, iChat, and Screen Sharing, to name a few). I've got over 300 apps on my machine and so far everything runs just fine, although I've not tested them ALL.

I don't know why some people are having problems, because if anyone should have compatibility problems it should be me. I download and try out everything under the sun. If I had to complain about SOMETHING I guess it would be the new Leopard version of Little Snitch - it has to relearn everything I've already taught it.

I did have a complaint about my App folder in the dock no longer opening a Finder window with one click, but I read of a way to do that so now I'm 100% happy (you make an alias of your App folder, and put THAT in the dock).

Oh yeah, Leopard's a bitch. Right.

Oct 28, 07 - 07:25 am Comment from: ShadowMac

I installed Leopard on my G5 PowerMac and it corrupted my my user login. It no longer exists. As it as my only user, I could not login.

Fortunately I had backed everything up.

This is not acceptable...because I do not accept it...

Oct 28, 07 - 07:32 am Comment from: Check It Out

"Sounds like upgrading to Leopard's a complete disaster. A little more testing next time perhaps..."

Look at the thousands of posts of people having problems. Try calling Apple tech support, you won't get through.

Oct 28, 07 - 07:59 am Comment from: Reclaimer

I have had no problems on my home machines at all.

And…I have been installing 10.5 on customer's computers left and right with no difficulties at all.

I've noticed that some people don't just simply use their computers, but like to tinker with them too.

Had to re-install OS many a machine because users trashed this or that because they didn't know what it was or thought they didn't need it.

FUBAR

Oct 28, 07 - 08:11 am Comment from: rancher

I see the same stuff at every upgrade - those who have no problems and those who have disasters. I learned back in OS9 days to PREPARE for a new OS. I backed stuff up, made sure the weird hacks were off and followed the instructions. Yeah, there are some strange conflicts, CS3 is a little unhappy with Leopard but works. Other than that, no problems - same old song, different cat.

Oct 28, 07 - 08:12 am Comment from: George

The irony is, a couple days ago on the post about the Macfixit guide to precautions you should take to ensure a smooth Leopard install, so many people were like "Wut? I don't need no stinkin precautions! It's always worked perfectly in the past, and it will this time!" and stuff. I wonder how many of those people are contributing to the whiners who got screwed up because they tried to do a plain "upgrade" with all their wacky 3rd party mods installed instead of doing an archive & install like a sensible person.

Has anyone actually had serious problems doing an archive & install?

Oct 28, 07 - 08:26 am Comment from: Reclaimer

George, I agree! I have seen all kinds of system hacks and mods from as far back as I can remember and these bozos claim that they need them.

A very few run fine, but most just make a mess of things.

Then they come in and say "it doesn't work" or "it's defective."

Truth told it's something they did themselves and they blame Apple, the computer, the iPod, the iPhone or whatever.

Oct 28, 07 - 08:28 am Comment from: Always Right

PB, Mini & iMac.
No problems.

0.

I'm installing the 4th now, (my clamshell ibook).

Oct 28, 07 - 08:43 am Comment from: devnull

The answer is easy. Almost all of the problems would have been avoided with a backup of the Tiger user directory then Erase & Install. Reinstall apps & move the data back. That option gives the cleanest installation and the least chance for something to go wrong. The OS installation is something you're going to rely on for the next few years; take the extra time to do it right.

Oct 28, 07 - 08:49 am Comment from: justme2

Installed on the MacBook and no hitches thus far, other than Yahoo Messenger crashing (and a redownload and reinstall solved that problem).

I'm going to wait to put it on the iMac till I get back from a week-long getaway though, so my husband doesn't have to call tech support (me).

Oct 28, 07 - 08:49 am Comment from: Always Right

"...updating system 9 preferences..."

This is AWESOME.

Oct 28, 07 - 09:10 am Comment from: Hm ...

The trolls are really coming out now that Leopard's been released. Come on guys, you're desperation is showing. Mayhaps you'd get more response trolling the Windoze boards for the like-minded. Go after those unfortunates who've chosen to eschew Vista by staying with XP.

New commercial: Guy with box of Vista slaps forehead and says, "I coulda had a Leopard!"

Oct 28, 07 - 09:14 am Comment from: JAYGEE

Glad I waited to get Leopard now. Think I will wait till the new year. That should be around 10.5.2/3 by then.

Oct 28, 07 - 10:26 am Comment from: MegaMe

Not problems here. Installed on two macs. One archive & install and one update.

I did clone my drives first with CCC first just to be safe. But after three days, no problems.

A lot of pc people trolls spreading FUD around here. Jealous maybe?

Oct 28, 07 - 10:27 am Comment from: @ Bitchers and Complainers

Did you guys cry this much when you tried to update your own computers to Vista?

Oct 28, 07 - 10:28 am Comment from: Madrox199

No problems here, I guess some people like to b_tch alot. Why don't you guys go home and make your own damn OS.

B_TCHES!

Oct 28, 07 - 11:13 am Comment from: Goople

I'll eventually upgrade, but....

since switching over from Windows XP a year ago this is the first time that I've had an OS installed for a year while still running as well as when I first got it.

I plan to get a couple of new iMacs next month anyway so probably I'll wait till then to enjoy the Leapord goodness..

WARNING!!!
Application Enhancer currently does not work on Mac OS X 10.5. More Info. go to Unsanity.

@KoolAid.
actually it was the cheap knockoff FlavorAde that the Jonestown people drank. So as a Mac user I will gladly drink the Kool-Aid, and leave the cheap knockoff for the Windows faithful! They deserve it!

Oct 28, 07 - 11:51 am Comment from: Brian

Well, the new release seems great. I did have one problem. The same thing on two totally different computers. My airport connection kept dropping about every 30 seconds. I'd have to turn off airport and turn it back on to re-connect. The new Login & Keychain Update 1.0 fixed that on both computers.

Oct 28, 07 - 12:14 pm Comment from: Jim - TIV

I had one issue on the iMac, none on the macbook. Same login issue as reported earlier. I fixed it by booting the computer in Target Mode and then repairing permissions from the other computer.

Oct 28, 07 - 12:23 pm Comment from: DogGone

I want...
Matte screens everywhere
Wireless Time Machine backup
Not too have to ever run updates.
....

Sheesh what is Apple doing? Can't they get anything right?

Oct 28, 07 - 01:00 pm Comment from: Macaday

The only problems have been for people like me who have installed fat too many hacks....!

Oct 28, 07 - 01:12 pm Comment from: Shogun

@ Luke "I just want wireless backup"

I read on AI that if you do the initial full backup on a directly attached drive you can then use it through your airport base station and Time Machine will find it and make incrementals wirelessly.

Not tested, but it's what some are saying...

Oct 28, 07 - 01:41 pm Comment from: HueyLong

No problems here. Upgrade onto a G5 Quad and an iMac 20". Only issue - fixed in 60 seconds - was printers not being found. Simply turned off the printers and turned them back on again.

I'm discovering cute thing after cute thing as I explore. Trying to get used to Spaces right now. But do like Time Machine a lot.

Oct 28, 07 - 01:51 pm Comment from: KoolAid Sipper

No problems on a G4 iBook. Still have a G5 tower, iMac, MacBook, and MacBook Pro to go. Really liking Mail.

Oct 28, 07 - 02:05 pm Comment from: HueyLong

Following reboot into Leopard I started checking all my little apps. As an FYI, here's a short list of some third party developers that already have Leopard compliant apps:

Audio Hijack Pro - update available;
Fission - update available;
Aperture - update available;
Transmit - not necessary for Leopard;
Senuti - update available;
Freeway Pro - update available;
HP Device Manager - not necessary;
Skype - not necessary;
Handbrake - update available;
SpamSieve - not necessary;
RadioShift - not necessary;
Nicecast - update available;
QuickTunes - not necessary;
ScreenSteps - not necessary;
Adobe CS3 Suite - I use it all and it works so far for me;
Firefox - update available;
iView MediaPro 3 - not necessary;

No doubt there are many, many others. But for me, so far everything's ahead of the game and either works fine anyway, or an update was ready and waiting for me to download.

So an excellent job done by most third party developers I've come across. Thanks.
