    > I’m scared of updating big updates like this, as they can go wrong. I always wait a few days, to see if it goes wrong, for some people.

The updates can tell when you do this and they don’t like it.

Sometimes they’ll work just fine for everyone else because they’re trying to lull you into a false sense of security. Then, once they’ve got you trusting that everything is okay, you install them, and BAM! Everything goes to hell.

Oh.. no, wait a minute, that’s Microsoft.

  2. Mmmmm, taste that Apple goodness. You see, when Apple bakes a pie, it’s just right, with sugar on top, delicious pastry, and a proper filling. With Microsoft, you get a weird transparent plastic pastry, which for some reason is not transparent, but actually blurred and clouded. I assume thats to hide the out of date, rotten innards of the pie. The Microsoft pie is also huge, and bursting at the seams. The Apple pie is always a trim size, just large enough to carry everything you need, but small enough to fit inside the tiniest of ovens.

    And, that was a good one, Oh no my shorts. I LOLed. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

MDN Magic word: a controversial “free”. Our updates are free, Microsoft’s Service Packs are sometimes a little bit more? Debate please? Any Microsoft fanboys ready to rally against me and defend Bill and Ballmer? Please, take a shot. I’m sure I’ll get a good laugh out of it.

  3. Firstly, yes, MacRumors did have this announcement first.

Secondly, I have updated (smoothly) and I still don’t see any MobileMe service logos or anything, so I guess there might be one last update before the set release date…? I only mention this because it seemed to be widely reported this 10.5.4 update would activate the hidden code for MobileMe. Oh well.

  4. Any shutdown hangs like were reported with 10.5.3? I haven’t even installed 10.5.3 because of said hangs and because of Firefox incompatibilities. I guess I’ll wait a few days again and see what happens.

MW: I’ll wait to see how “others” do with this update.

  5. Yay! Fixes Safari’s issue with loading some secure sites. I can finally access my bank’s site again. I was insistently blaming this on my bank for 2 weeks. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  6. God do Adobe charge crazy prices for CS 3. Over here in the UK we have to pay double what you folks in the US do. I say have to, instead of updating to the Master suite like I originally planned, I just got Illustrator and picked up the Apple equivalent when it comes to video production. Good times.

  7. “The Apple pie is always a trim size, just large enough to carry everything you need, but small enough to fit inside the tiniest of ovens. “

Except when it’s a Leopard Pie. Then it’s so bloated and full of rotten leopard meat that it takes a whole year to bake a replacement pie.

  8. The “snappy” thing came from back when OS X 10.0 came out and was pretty slow and Apple released the update 10.1… It was a huge improvement in overall speed and it was often referred to as “snappy” Then whenever a new update came out like 10.1.1, 10.1.2 and so on it seemed some updates would be a step forward and some were a step backwards. It became commonplace to ask on forums if the newest update fixed any sluggish issues and if it made it “snappier”!

So there you have it the history of “snappy” in reference to OS X!

  9. @ EFI Firmware Update 1.3

I don’t have an EFI-based Mac with me at the moment with which to verify this, but I know firmware updates in the past have often required that you run a special app that gets dropped in your Utilities folder before the update actually completes. Have you done that? If not, that might be why it still wants to download the updater.

  10. @Journo,

Unfortunately, MDN was not the first. I saw this news on Macrumors first and no one else had it at the same time. Macrumors beat them by 11 minutes! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  11. Ughh…..did the update and upon restart my G5 hung up, which it hasn’t done in FOREVER!!

Now every single app is running like its stuck in quick sand….working thru all of the basic troubleshooting right now…

Anyone else having issues with powerpc machines? I just got an IM from a friend with very similiar issues as mine….safari is taking a looooooooong time to load every page, and every one of my CS3 apps is coated in syrup….

  12. Unfortunately, I still can’t access sites that require certificates from my Smart Card! WTF!?! The update was supposed to fix this! Is anybody doing this successfully after the update?

  13. @ ‘Snow Job Leopard’

Installed on my G5 Quad with no issues. Don’t be such a conspiracy-theory wielding crybaby… Next tim ask around before you jump to the asinine conclusion that your one machine somehow is representative of every G5 out there.

  14. I know no one will believe this, but I swear my Mac and Safari does feel like its much more snappier. Now stop snickering, I’m telling the truth. My Mac is much snappier and Safari too after I installed the 500 plus update. So this update is a must for Leopard users. You Mac will be much more snappier than before. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  15. Anyone know if this Leopard update fixes the Remote Desktop flaw exploited by that trojan? I’ve read the details of the update and the flaws it fixes, but I haven’t seen the Remote Desktop issue addressed specifically.

  16. I have an overheating problem now. I may have been blipped by a lightning strike. Is anyone experiencing overheating of their PPC G5 Power Mac? I have a dual 1.8 Gig with the 4 slot memory. I have my Tiger install running right now to test my theory. Anybody else?

  17. The Apple app store has been such a huge success because of how they treat their developers. They have such a large selection off apps and that entices users to download random apps and for developers to continue to create apps for the iphone. As an iphone developer I cannot imagine developing for any other phone at this point. This money just isnt anywhere else at this time.
