Yeah Safari 3.0

Nov 14, 07 - 04:57 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

On a 1 to 10 scale...

How SNAPPY is it?

Nov 14, 07 - 04:59 pm Comment from: Jubei

I'm still waiting for 6.0.9. Apple was suppose to release MultiVerse MultiFinder for that version. My Mac 512KE is still waiting in the wings! wink

Seriously waiting for 10.5.1. Just to fix some oddities in 10.5. I'd like to be able to set finder views per window, like Tiger. Instead of how its global right now.

Nov 14, 07 - 05:00 pm Comment from: Jamie

It was only a 3 before the update. Now it is probably a 5. I expect it to rise to a 7 or 8 when I upgrade to Leopard. It is the fastest cat around!

Nov 14, 07 - 05:05 pm Comment from: montex

Tiger is sooooo last month.

Nov 14, 07 - 05:11 pm Comment from: so far so good

Nov 14, 07 - 05:24 pm Comment from: @Aldarion

Developers have just been seeded with the third build of 10.5.1 (9B18). If all goes well in the testing process, you should see it within the next ten days, I'd say.

Nov 14, 07 - 05:35 pm Comment from: me

destined to be the rarest of OS X installations. Isn't everyone on 10.5 by now? They should be!

Nov 14, 07 - 05:39 pm Comment from: twodales

@me
Not if you are still running a pristine G4 cube like I am. The quietest computer ever made.

Nov 14, 07 - 06:01 pm Comment from: Matt

Why didn't they update the look of Safari?!?!?!?

Nov 14, 07 - 06:03 pm Comment from: macaholic

@Marko easy there Tiger!
Take it easy on the new kids. They don't all have your experience upselling combos at Mickey D's

Nov 14, 07 - 06:05 pm Comment from: Rob

I've been using the Safari 3 beta for quite awhile and it's been great. Anyone know of any fixes or improvements in the the final version?

MagicWord = Special (as in Safari is Special!)

Nov 14, 07 - 06:19 pm Comment from: Rudge

As a Leopard owner who had to re-install Tiger on my 1GHz TiBook (problem with the old white Airport), it's great to see this update. Thank you Apple, for keeping the Tiger alive and supported.

Nov 14, 07 - 06:20 pm Comment from: Loru

I'm with ya...where oh where is 10.5.1????

Nov 14, 07 - 06:25 pm Comment from: Glad

Glad they released it and added Safari 3 as a bonus. Also, kudos to Apple for the Panther security update - helping those on the older OS Xs and older equipment. You know, the ones that aren't independently wealthy, have a money tree or Mommy & Daddy to buy them new computers every two years.

Nov 14, 07 - 06:31 pm Comment from: GranitW

Not everyone can use 10.5, FCS still doesn't work with it yet. Although I haven't yet installed the new patch for it that came out today... I hope FCS will work.... finally.

at our house ... Microsoft's recently implemented denial of Hotmail access to Safari hasn't improved with this version.

You know, we got this spiffy new top of the line iMac and my Windows using wife was delighted to give OS X apps a fair try .. until she could no longer get her mail in Safari. That was the end of that. We now have to run Parallels full time just so she can access her long established Hotmail account in IE. pfffft.

Microsoft pisses me off.

Nov 14, 07 - 06:45 pm Comment from: @gwm

Elaborate. I am able to get my hotmail e-mail on my iMac with Safari. I just NOW checked.

Nov 14, 07 - 06:57 pm Comment from: ibookfast

Some things I've noticed... it is snappier for sure, Safari refreshes where you were as opposed to the top of the page, no more funky scroll bar action on big pages, the update feature has new a description if you don't have anymore updates, Spotlight does some catching up for a few seconds when you first you use it ...so far that is all I've noticed. It's nice seeing Tiger get some attention, don't have the extra USD200+ for Leopard and iLife 08 just yet.

Nov 14, 07 - 06:58 pm Comment from: peter

@gwm: what about firefox? works fine with Hotmail last I checked? Parallels seems like overkill...

Nov 14, 07 - 07:00 pm Comment from: Developer

What are the build numbers of each version?

Nov 14, 07 - 07:04 pm Comment from: Gilles

Safari 3 breaks my WordPress blog.

Nov 14, 07 - 07:19 pm Comment from: ibookfast

part II, video is working much better, and thanks to MemoryCell I can monitor any apps memory use on the tool bar, and Safari 3.0.4(523.12) has definitely plugged some holes.

Nov 14, 07 - 07:26 pm Comment from: Mymac4ever

Well I say this is bad. The new Safari doesn't seem to understand any of my bookmarks as webadresses. Nothing happens, whatever I choose. Using Firefox is not a problem

Nov 14, 07 - 07:29 pm Comment from: gwm

elaboration re Hotmail access denial in Safari:

Safari goes through a long series of redirects, ultimately ending at a Windows Live notification page which states that "Windows Live ID is not available from this site". The only way we can get in with Safari is to then go to the Windows Live services page and pretend to modify the account preferences. At that point Windows Live (and Hotmail) becomes available to Safari for a few hours, only to return to non-accessible status shortly thereafter. This development is about a month old and consistently repeatable.

I dunno ...maybe it's a geographically restricted lock-down test by Microsoft? I just assumed it was happening to everybody.

Nov 14, 07 - 07:33 pm Comment from: DLMeyer

"me", you are kidding, right? We have five Macs in the house, three just for my wife and me. I bought the Leopard Family Pack, but only updated my dual G5 - the iBook and the Al iMac are waiting for 10.5.1 ... or, perhaps, 2. Safari 3 breaks some sites. My wife won't accept that. I have to be able to promise her that it won't break anything she uses - or restore the older system - or she doesn't want it. New stuff may be SaWEEEt, but working stuff is the BEST.
Because of my problems with Safari 3, only our laptop will be getting "11" until I've checked further.

Nov 14, 07 - 07:54 pm Comment from: Mymac4ever

It seems to me like Safari3 is able to load tabgroups though not the first adress in those groups and choosing individual adresses doesn't work. It also complained about the security certificates for my banksite though it worked on the previous version yesterday. How do I downgrade back to the betaversion?

Nov 14, 07 - 08:07 pm Comment from: AJK

I notice that with Safari 3 GMail Chat now works and my bank's site (NatWest in UK) which wouldn't allow the beta to be used now works fine.

Nov 14, 07 - 08:08 pm Comment from: gwm

I should add:

We also get the same denial of Hotmail access on the old G3 iMac with OS X 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2.

The problem seems to be coming straight from Microsoft, imho. It's not a problem inherent only to Safari 3. And .. it's new. Everything used to work just fine. Now it doesn't, regardless which OS and regardless which Safari.

Nov 14, 07 - 08:48 pm Comment from: BigmacX @ people having problems with hotmail

Same thing happened to me. I have enabled the debiug option. If you change the usaer agent to for example, Firefox, hotmail will load fine. So the problem IS Microsoft blocking Safari users

Nov 14, 07 - 08:51 pm Comment from: colenzae

Does this update disable bootcamp??

Nov 14, 07 - 08:59 pm Comment from: ibookfast

how can I say it gently? .. ah f*&k;hotmail, use gmail, or yahoo.. an acronym for You. Always. Have. Other. Options.

I just upgraded, and now I can't feel my liver......

Nov 14, 07 - 09:15 pm Comment from: nekogami13

Downgraded my iMac from Leopard to this-hopefully Apple will fix Leopard's airport issues soon.

Nov 14, 07 - 09:22 pm Comment from: gwm

heh. Maybe MDN can somehow independently confirm this Microsoft Safari Hotmail-denial attack and run a big exposé. lol. I would just love that. grin

Nov 14, 07 - 09:22 pm Comment from: Jooop

My Quadra feels much snappier after this update!

Nov 14, 07 - 09:37 pm Comment from: idon

Thanks for all who have posted about their experiences with update. I'm still hesitant to take the plunge with an iMac 17 800 MHz PC G4. Could be some time into the New Year before I get a Leopard compatible Apple Computer. Can anyone within my type of set-up encourage me to move on to Safari 3?
MW=lived, as I have lived through a previous bad experience with an update.

Nov 14, 07 - 09:56 pm Comment from: anaknipedro

There must have been some Rosetta updates because Bejeweled 2 deluxe now works. Now I need to try out Quicken 2006. It has been broken since 10.4.8

Nov 14, 07 - 11:20 pm Comment from: Shiva

Thought the upgrade would fix the fact that QT doesn't show video in Safari. Just another incorrect thought. QT works in FireFox.

Nov 15, 07 - 12:11 am Comment from: tony

Just upgraded to 10.4.11 the browser is a he!! of allot better. Purchased Leopard waiting on 10.5.1 and want 2 hear feedback plus i use skype and don't want compromise its functionality...I switched from pc to mac awhile back and will never look back...

Nov 15, 07 - 01:01 am Comment from: ken1w

Probably the last dot dot update for Tiger. A System update that includes a Safari update - that's a new one...

Nov 15, 07 - 01:58 am Comment from: MacSmiley

I have the same problem with Safari that Mymac4ever has... pages not loading... whether via bookmarks or by directly typing in the URL.

Any further info on this?

Nov 15, 07 - 02:21 am Comment from: Marko

very happy with the update smile
haven't had any page loading freezes since
so smooth now
maybe i'll buy leopard till 10.5.1 or 2

MW: "some" now apple give us some graphics card drivers (imac)

Nov 15, 07 - 06:45 am Comment from: Cubert

I'm running Leopard but my PowerBook is snappier just by reading this article!

Nov 15, 07 - 06:49 am Comment from: Cubert

@twodales,
Trust me - update your Cube to Leopard. Mine works great under it - better than Tiger even!

If you don't know how, reply back and I'll reply with some options.

C3
(I'm 2 better than you C1)
wink

Nov 15, 07 - 06:54 am Comment from: Cubert

@TowerTone,
No. That would be the drinking.

Nov 15, 07 - 07:33 am Comment from: 2 cents

@ anaknipedro
"Now I need to try out Quicken 2006. It has been broken since 10.4.8"

What is broken? I use Quicken 2005 through all the Tiger updates (except .11) and now Leopard and it seems to work fine. I don't use all its "features" so maybe it is "broken" and I don't notice (or care).

Thanks

Nov 15, 07 - 08:24 am Comment from: TowerTone

Ohh, I was just kidding, Dr. Q.
Besides, I quit drinking years ago.
Yeah, I can feel it right here..no wait...that's my spleen....
