W00t. Frist??
Any reports of this correcting the iChatAV -8 error due to SIPs and WRT54G routers?
YES!!! It’s always a happy day when we get an OS X update.
still prefer 10.3.9 over Tiger. :[
Already running it…
Morgan,
Why??? Does 10.3.9 run better for you? I agree that it was the best version of Panther released (with 10.3.6 at #2), but Tiger runs WAY better on my Cube than Panther ever did, and Dashboard has become indispensable to me. I couldn’t imagine going back to Panther.
Me too! dumped 10.4.3 and went back to Panther. Spotlight is a disgrace, esp. if you have an organized setup. Also Freehand sucks under 10.4.x. Modo and C4D works better tho.
“performance of the translation widget”
It’s about damn time!
I am with you Kevin. The “performance of the translation widget” has had a major impact on my company’s decision to continue using Macintosh.
Which means Aperture is about to drop! 😀
Anything in this for improved performance and bug fixes for iLife suite?
EAP-FAST protocol? What is that?
Freehand sucks anyway
Miro: Spotlight is “a disgrace”?
May I diffidently suggest that you haven’t got it working properly? This happened to me twice. There are command-line statements for ditching each volume’s spotlight directory and forcing the OS to rebuild them all. Once that’s done, Spotlight performs incredibly well (as opposed to before that maintenance, when all it could do was vaguely remember filenames).
I Like Panther.
Never crashed once on me.
Tiger can be a bitch.
(Nicer eye-candy though)
i just installed 10.4.8 on my macbook pro.. it feels very fast!! i think it fixed something because my apps are starting up much faster…
今では変換の仕掛は極度の大変で幸せな楽しみの喜びの喜びである!
But still no Klingon?
Miro
both spotlight and Freehand work very well for me under 10.4
What sort of problems are you getting ?
st1,
Probably because the installer updated the prebindings. Apps start faster after that, I believe.
For the Panther folks: Really? I could never go back to Panther. Tiger is amazing. I can’t think of anything about it I don’t like. Panther feels slow to me, compared to Tiger.
We’re running out of room for point updates. Bring on Leopard!
Everything seems snappier. Even my refrigerator seems snappier.
THIS UPDATE BROKE MY MACBOOK PRO.
mudflapper,
I use Tiger.
Yes, even prefer it over over Panther. But Panther was rock solid reliable.
Always.
Tiger is sometimes sloppy.
Tiger still feels like a point zero version… (hopefully not .8!)
I’d like Tiger to run like Panther, thats all.
Note the huge differene in size between the Intel & PPC client versions of the update?
206 MB vs 31MB
Wow!
Yeh, Spotlight had too many errors translating Ferengi to Romulan so I went back to OS 9.
Never had a Tiger crash on the iBook, and have only had two kernel panics on the Intel iMac (and the last one was about 4 months ago, a couple of months after I got the system).
Preparing to install (meaning I’m backing up my system to the external drive, after which I’ll repair permissions), just in case (MW magic word!).
Love Tiger, and looking forward to Leopard…
DAMMM YOU APPLE!!!!
Good thing I clone my boot drive before experimenting with these crappy updates.
I can’t use iTunes Store now.
DAMMMMMMM!
DOUBLE DAMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!
I want to USE MY COMPUTER and not BE A FRIGGING SLAVE TO BUNK UPDATES!!!
Lay off the damm bloat Apple!!! iTunes 7 sucks!
I meant Dashbird
@pissed off
can you give us more details?
Don’t know what all the complaining is about–I downloaded the latest database intel from p3x-298, and my new Ancient fonts are beautiful. Just can’t please some people I guess…
Hey, it changed the dock icon for iTunes back to green. Yay! I hated the blue.
10.4.8 ….
only 1 more update number left in the stack before 10.5
Hmmmm ….
Makes me wonder if apple will be releasing 10.5 in January.
Um, no, they could release 10.4.10 if they wanted to….
Mac OS X 10.5 is said to be released by November. Now that’s the news!
seems to hang on the diskarb kext. booting in safe mode works.
Never had any problems with updates. Tiger’s great (seems a little RAM hungry, but I have enough now). Running 10.4.8. Works great so far.
This OS update made my dog sick and gave me gas, but otherwise it’s running great and Safari seems snappier than before.
What’s the deal with the Freehand bashing? It’s a great program, and does not deserve its soon-to-be-orphaned status.
The only problem I have with Freehand MX on Tiger is the lack of grouping fonts by family (I miss Adobe Type Reunion), and a weird refusal to see a couple of fonts every other program on my machine can see fine!
Am downloading my 22MB update as we speak. Yeah, yeah, I know, I should get the combo updater!
Anyhow, the iChat problem was solved on my computer by making sure all the necessary ports were open in my Sharing prefs, there’s about 20 of them! And, doing the necessary port forwarding on my wireless router. Having talked to one other person about this, it may just take turning off the router’s firewall that temporarily solves the iChat SIP problem, which tends me to believe it’s a portforwarding issue in the wireless router.
Aperture 1.5 update is out too. 125MB. Am downloading now through Apple software update.
Yeah, this update just crashed my MacBook! So the first thing I know I have to do is go find someone elses computer, login to MacDailyNews.com and post a ranting complaint. Then maybe I’ll try to repair my computer.
Sure… I’m calling BS.
I understand this update is for compatibility with the new Powerbook G5
Wow! Safari is definitely snappier!
I hope this update makes the Whoopee Cushion widget more responsive.
“• RAW camera support”
So, what camera’s have been added to the list?
They still haven’t replaced that crappy finder. 🙁
I never had 10.3 Panther, love 10.4 Tiger, looking forward to 10.5 Leopard, can’t wait for 1.8.69 Pussy Galore!
MW:purpose, as in -this has not one.
I just used Dashboard Translator to translate this in Japanese (from a previous post):
今では変換の仕掛は極度の大変で幸せな楽しみの喜びの喜びである!
into:
Now as for setting up the conversion extremeness being serious, it is the joy of the happy pleasantly straw raincoat joy
That’s am improvement?
Did anyone else notice reduced mouse speed with the update? The tracking seems slower to me, a lot slower.
This update tastes just like chicken!
(MDNMW – try = Try a wing!)
Holy crap, I also got the same translation.
I’m.. afraid, Dave.

Well this update fixed the webkit issues (introduced with the patch back in August) for Safari and the Weather and Stock widgets on Intel iMacs. Kudos!
and concerning some folks here saying it is faster because it updates the prebindings.
Ehmm, what about getting updated instead on Mac OS X? pre-binding of the libraries is a thing of the past, ie, Panther.
With Tiger the linker got entirely rewritten. Tiger is faster period. There is no pre-binding needed in the Tiger linker. Applications start faster period, not because of a refreshening of the library bindings.
PS
Leopard as well is faster. A lot faster than Tiger. Mac OS X Core OS team goes through extensive research of every single possible chance to get a leaner, faster, more efficient Mac OS X at every release (and interim update as well).
For those thinking that there’s only one more update before 10.5, let me just say:
10.4.1 10.4.2 10.4.3 10.4.4 10.4.5 10.4.6 10.4.7 10.4.8 10.4.9 10.4.10 10.4.11
did everyone else’s icon change back to green too?? mine are still blue on both my macbook and intel imac. weird? or is wade the anomily?
Reality check, dude what decimal system did you grow up with? It would have to go 10.4.9.x not 10.4.10
I had to do an archive and install after the 10.4.8 update, but everything seems fine now… i have noticed somet stuff being snappier…
So far, a problem-free update. Safari performance is noticeably improved. Spinning rainbow ball sightings are way down.
I appreciate Tiger’s additional features but agree with others who prefer Panther for trouble-free performance. 10.3.9 was almost perfect and all flavors of Tiger have had their little quirks. But progress is progress…
“.10?” – what kind of decimal system did *you* grow up with??? When did any number read 10.4.1 ?? The “dot” is simply a separator – it’s not a decimal point. Duh.
.10
this isn’t a decimal system its a major.minor.increment system.
so yes if we get to 10.4.9 the next increment will be 10.4.10
MW : easy (as in easy when you know how)

===================================
iMacUK, you are right, but I have rarely if ever seen Apple increment their operating system updates past .9.
I just don’t see Apple going beyond base-10.
Not if 10.5 is ready for release in Jan/Feb.
10.4.9 could come out in December, and then 10.5 would be ready in Jan/Feb/March target zone. An announcement in Jan, for sure, followed by a roll-out by Spring.
No reason to wait any longer … Apple isn’t Microsoft.
