Apple releases MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1
Monday, April 21, 2008 - 05:05 PM EDT

Apple today released MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 which fixes several issues to improve the stability of MacBook Pro computers.

After the firmware is successfully applied to your Mac, your Boot ROM Version will be:
 MBP21.00A5.B08 or MBP31.0070.B07

You can confirm the version of the Boot ROM installed on your computer using System Profiler.

To complete the firmware update process, please follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app). The updater will launch automatically when the Installer closes.

System Requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later
• Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later

MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 is available via Software Update and also as a standalone installer.

Is it just me, or have their been an awful lot of firmware updates in recent months? I seem to recall it being a rarity at one point, now it seems to occur fairly often.

FINALLY!

The LAST update created a bunch of wake from sleep issues for me..

@willie g

That may be just a result of (1) a lot more Macs being sold and used, which means that there will be more bug reports getting back to Apple which are then fixed and (2) more resources at Apple to fix things that in the past they may have just ignored.

Of course it could be (3) sloppier coding to begin with that needs to be fixed.

I will be an optimist and go with the first two options.

Does this update pertain to older MacBook Pros?

Apr 21, 08 - 05:48 pm Comment from: nzmacman

This update came out a while ago. Already have it on my MacBook Pro. What gives?

My MacBook Pro did a funny screen pixelation thing today. Had to force restart it and it was good again.

I did this update a couple weeks ago... I just ran Software Update, says I'm up to date... Strange to release it again, yeah?

Apr 21, 08 - 06:35 pm Comment from: Spark

Thank you Moo.

Doesn't appear to work for Mid-07 MBPs -- gives me a "you don't need this" message when downloading / installing from Apple AND it won't appear in Software Updates list.

So, if anyone has successfully applied this update, please advise on:
- how
- which MBP you have

Thanks!

I bought my 17" MacBook Pro in December 07. The last firmware updated did not take for me. It said that I did not need it. This one installed fine.

That update was April 8.

I had firmware MBP31.0070.B05 then. I now have MBP31.0070.B07.

Oh, I forgot. It's snappier!

I feel so "in" now.

My wares are firmer!

@ danwaywff

"My wares are firmer!"

Are you sure it's not because of the cold weather?

Apr 22, 08 - 08:38 am Comment from: Closed Lid Mode Still Doesn't Work

The previous version of the firmware (v1.5.0) only updated certain MBP's. This revision slightly expands the number of older firmwares that it'll update. It doesn't fix my clamshell mode / wake-from-sleep problems.

Apr 22, 08 - 04:57 pm Comment from: waredgo

Successfully applied the firmware update to my MBP purchased in Dec.'07. New ROM is MBP31.0070.B07.

Haven't changed back my sleep options as it just scares me.
Does anyone know if this solved that issue?
