Nov 13, 08 - 05:35 pm Comment from: Arse

I hate to ask, but is it snappy?

Nov 13, 08 - 05:40 pm Comment from: emanon

Much snappier on my new 2.8GHz MBP.

Nov 13, 08 - 05:40 pm Comment from: toby

I hope they've worked on the Hang time and Memory issues. Cause it's still really slowing down my system.

Nov 13, 08 - 05:41 pm Comment from: Moog!

The snapification factor has increased tenfold.

Nov 13, 08 - 05:42 pm Comment from: Marco

seems snappier to me hehe

Nov 13, 08 - 05:48 pm Comment from: Jacob

I have it on good authority that due to the latest anti-phishing features, this update is not snappier, but snoopier.

Nov 13, 08 - 05:55 pm Comment from: MacBill

Oh my god, Safari is SNAPPIER!!

Nov 13, 08 - 06:00 pm Comment from: kirkgray

Crashes for me when I "Open in Tabs" on a list of websites.

Nov 13, 08 - 06:14 pm Comment from: KenC

Are they using the latest WebKit build with SquirrelfishExtreme?

Nov 13, 08 - 06:19 pm Comment from: KenC

Just ran the Acid3 tests, and it shows that this is NOT a recent WebKit build, as it only scored a 75 out of 100.

Try the test yourself:

Nov 13, 08 - 06:38 pm Comment from: AJKphotography

I notice the option in the Advanced Preferences for "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website" but I wonder what system they're using for that.

Nov 13, 08 - 06:42 pm Comment from: coolfactor

Too bad they're not using the latest WebKit. I suspect that they're saving that for Safari 4 in Snow Leopard, which is a shame.

However, anyone that wants the latest and greatest can get their own copy at http://www.webkit.org. It's updated nightly. My primary browser.

Nov 13, 08 - 06:44 pm Comment from: coolfactor

With the WebKit nightly, you get 100/100 baby.

I am Having a crash fest 10 times in the last 5 Min this post is the longest it has run. multi tabs seem to crash 3.2 help

Nov 13, 08 - 06:57 pm Comment from: AJKphotography

When I logged into my eBay account I saw "eBay Inc" appeared in green next to the padlock so that must be how we spot genuine sites. It's easy to miss but maybe something more obvious happens if a fraudulent site is detected.

Nov 13, 08 - 07:04 pm Comment from: AJKphotography

I just found out that 3.2 supports Extended Validation Certificates so I'm no longer wondering.

Nov 13, 08 - 07:16 pm Comment from: El Guapo

The snappificators have been working overtime at Apple!

Nov 13, 08 - 07:41 pm Comment from: Mr. Snappy

Snappy

Nov 13, 08 - 07:46 pm Comment from: GmanMac

I have my usual ton of tabs open and 3.2 is running just fine.

Nov 13, 08 - 07:46 pm Comment from: MizuInOz

Do not install this piece of shit!!!

I installed it on my MBA and MacPro and it is crashing right and left...

Installed WebKit and it works just super and it is beyond snappier!

Cheers!

Nov 13, 08 - 08:46 pm Comment from: Wrong Again

For the people having problems, you HAVE to have 10.5.5 installed if you're using Leopard..

Nov 13, 08 - 08:59 pm Comment from: MizuInOz

@wrong again

I have no extensions
- I have 10.5.5

And it is still crashing

next condescending comment, please....

I do not mind beta testing - in fact, I don't mind Alpha testing - when I know that is the case, I load the app on a separate drive I have for that stuff and reboot and try it out...

But I think Apple should publish disclaimers now.

Just can't trust the update programme any more.

Nov 13, 08 - 09:29 pm Comment from: silly rabbit

@MizuInOz

Wow... guy just tries to help and you snap at him... a-holes in Australia? What's the odds?

Want condescending? Shut yer whiny face and eat your porridge, ya baby.

Nov 13, 08 - 09:43 pm Comment from: jonahan

Why, Jobs, why do I have to restart to install my web browser!? It's starting to get more Microsofty in here.

Nov 13, 08 - 10:05 pm Comment from: porn dog

WOW!!! Porn sites are SNAPPIER™ than ever!!!! I don't ever need to block gay male dating services anymore!!! This version smokes! Sausage

Nov 13, 08 - 10:46 pm Comment from: Adam

Man, is this new Safari buggy! It's crashed 3 times on me now. Each time I was just reading a web page, and about 60 seconds in... bang! No more Safari :-(

Posted from... Firefox 3 :-(

Nov 13, 08 - 10:52 pm Comment from: KenC

@coolfactor, slowness, <30fps is a fail, even if it passes all the tests. Every one of the 100 tests is supposed to take less than 100ms.

On my 6 year old 1Ghz TiPB with only one stick of ram (512MB) working, I get:
Failed 0 tests.
Test 26 passed, but took 107ms (less than 30fps)
Test 65 passed, but took 35ms (less than 30fps)
Total elapsed time: 3.48s

So, your config is either older than mine, or you have some issues.

Nov 14, 08 - 12:31 am Comment from: Randian

Ah, the power of anonymity and the internet.

@MizuInOz

I have Safari 3.2 running right now on OS 10.5.5, iMac 24" 3.06GHz DuoCore 4Gb ram . . . and not one single crash or hiccup in three hours of INTENSIVE web-browsing and application downloading.

So . . . oh arrogant one . . . which of our experiences is to be believed tonight? Yours? Mine? What makes YOUR opinion and knowledge of all things Apple and Macintosh so superior to mine and ours?

What do we know of the state of your machine(s)? Are we to take you at your word that you know what you're doing and maintain your computing environment properly? What if, for instance, you're trying to use Safari Tiger on Leopard machines? (I don't know if that's actually possible, but what if it IS?)

Why don't you grow up, little man, and ask for help if you need it. First, why not ask on this forum if EVERYONE is experiencing the same--or nearly the same--problems you are? Why so quick to condemn?

Relax, Max, and try to get a grip on the world. Not EVERYTHING is trying to kill you!

Nov 14, 08 - 12:43 am Comment from: Randian

From the Apple discussion board on Safari just now:

"Safari 3.2 was crashing when I would do an Open in Tabs.

I removed the Input Managers and that got it working again. I re-installed all of them but SIMBL and things seem to be working now."

Who's to say that something akin to this scenario is not what's happening to those experiencing problems here? Anybody using "PithHelmet"? It, TOO, is not ready to work with Safari 3.2 apparently.

People/companies who write add-ons for Apple software who are not bonafide Apple developers are always behind the curve when new editions are released. ALWAYS. And it's always Apple's fault when their OLD, OUT-DATED extensions crash the running app, huh.

Humility, grasshopper, humility. It goes a long way.

Nov 14, 08 - 12:58 am Comment from: MizuInOz

@ Randian, Silly Rabbit, et. al....

My intention here is not to whine... nor snap as someone who is trying to help.

Your experience is your experience.

However, it is not the only one.

I have no extensions and I do not have SIMBL running or installed. I quit using all of that stuff long ago.

I have several Apple computers running in my home, offices and lab - i do not need to be an alpha tester. I cannot afford to have the downtime that inadequately designed updates/upgrades can cause. And yet, I am supposed to update immediately for security reasons. Hmmm.

I am not pissed at anyone on this website - period. Don't know you well enough to be pissed at you. If you are feeling picked upon, then you need to look in a mirror about your own feelings of inadequacy. (and I do not like porridge). raspberry

I am pissed at Apple. My comments were directed to Apple - not to any particular board member. If I offended anyone - I apologise.

What I find interesting is that I am not the only one having issues and yet, there is felt a need to castigate me. Is that because I am an Aussie?

Cheers.

Nov 14, 08 - 01:42 am Comment from: MacSmiley

Open "safe" files after downloading still is the default?? Sigh.

Nov 14, 08 - 02:19 am Comment from: Mike

Damn this Safari 3.2 update.
I've been crashing every time I try to open a new link in a new window with either the 'apple' key + click on link,
or when I try to reset Safari,
or when I right click on a link and click on "open in a new window.

Damn.

Any way to get this stupid 3.2 update unloaded and off my MacBook Pro?
Yes, I have 10.5.5 installed.

Thanks for any help.

Nov 14, 08 - 02:20 am Comment from: TowerTone

MizuInOz
Don't let them get you down(under)....

Nov 14, 08 - 02:47 am Comment from: MizuInOz

Thanks TT...

Anyone who has read my comments here knows I do not attack fellow writers. And I only whinge (Aussies do not whine) wink when I have a serious problem.

Castigation is usually easy when there is a high level of anonymity.

BTW - I have gone through ALL of my libraries (sys and user) and looked for any offending extensions, add-ons, SIMBL stuff - none. Still acting up.

WebKit is working great - just may stay with it. So friggen fast it is un-friggen-believeable. I am still trying to clean up the skid marks on the desk!

And I still get the crashes. Must be because the code arrives upside down here and it takes a few runs to get over the reverse coriolis effect! wink

Cheers, Mate ...

And it is Friday here, so I will swill a schooner for ya!

Nov 14, 08 - 02:49 am Comment from: MizuInOz

Er... that crashing is with the gnu virgin of Safari... sorry , that isn't too clear there.

Nov 14, 08 - 03:18 am Comment from: ken1w

Well, I did the update on two Macs, one Intel with 10.5.5 and one PowerPC with 10.4.11. No problems at all. In fact, I don't really notice any difference, since I did not have any problems with the previous version on either Mac.

Thanks Apple, for whatever it is that's better or fixed under the hood, and for not adversely affecting people who were doing just fine before the update.

Nov 14, 08 - 06:40 am Comment from: Mr. Reeee

OUCH!

It breaks both SafariStand and Concierge! Once I unistalled both plug-ins, it works, but Safari now feels like alien territory.

I LIVE with my zillion, easily accessible and manageable bookmarks via Concierge.

I even tried rerunning the 10.5.5 Combo update in the hope that it would restore Safari 3.1.2.

So, I'm guessing that SIMBL is the culprit. Let's hope there's a fix SOOOOOOOON. This is killing me.

Nov 14, 08 - 08:21 am Comment from: mindpower

Working nicely for me on 10.5.5 with AdBlock extension loaded.

PS. Adblock is great at filtering out MDN ads smile

Nov 14, 08 - 11:17 am Comment from: Essefgy

The Safarai update is repeatedly crashing for me as well. Running 10.5.5 on a Dual 2.5 PPC PowerMac. Don't have my 2.8GHz MacBook Pro handy to test, but I'm not sure I want to now.

Did they fix cookie handling yet?
Did they add white listing instead of the useless accept all or deny third party cookies(which does not work)?

Nov 14, 08 - 01:25 pm Comment from: Foxfire

I won't download it until I read more here and elsewhere about these bugs and until it makes Firefox snappier.

Nov 14, 08 - 02:25 pm Comment from: brank vennis

software update does not give me safari 3.2 today; your link for 'tiger' gets me to the 'windows' installer page. JTSTIWY

Nov 14, 08 - 02:34 pm Comment from: Pithy Pity

Crashed 4x within 2 minutes of installing. Ran disk permissions, rebooted, crashed the first time I ran it.

Then I remembered I had Pith Helmet installed. Which I installed because of the *annoying* popup word ads on this site (and the *reprehensible* tracking/cookies).

Removed Pith Helmet (just remove the plugin from /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/PlugIns and rebooted - all is well again.

Nov 14, 08 - 02:42 pm Comment from: Redd Green

BTW, the green/red feature in Safari 3.2 that tells you when you might be at a phishing site is only enabled for those sites that have shelled out significant extra $$ to support that protocol.

Look at the pricing on Network Solutions for the Extended Validation certificate...$399 per year versus $139 for the regular one.

If a site doesn't have an EV SSL cert, there is no red/green, just the old gray padlock there has always been.

Nov 14, 08 - 05:18 pm Comment from: Gomer37

Seems slower.

Nov 14, 08 - 08:45 pm Comment from: Mark Armstrong

I updated earlier today.

Just now, moments ago, for the first time ever, Safari quit suddenly.

Coincidence?

Nov 15, 08 - 04:39 pm Comment from: yawn...

Ridiculous, Safari still doesn't support tags when saving webpages. I don't get why Apple need so long to understand that what sucks most today is organizing (and finding) bookmarks. Delicious' tags is a lifesaver - as Apple just stumbles on with their prehistoric bookmarks.

Nov 17, 08 - 02:08 am Comment from: jcw3rd

I had to back down to 3.1.2. The new 3.2 version crashed a half dozen times in less than an hour. I do have pith helmet and simbl installed.

Nov 18, 08 - 03:36 pm Comment from: MacRaven

Suggestion for sudden quits, maybe try rebooting in Safe Boot? Dump those old nasty caches an possible corrupt font caches?

Reboot holding down the Shift key. (Be patient, it will take awhile to clean house). After it fully boots (successful attempt should say "Safe Boot" in red on Log In Screen). Restart as normal.

Might work, might not. But it's good for your Mac to do that once in awhile anyway. I've had good luck with it curing a lot of odd things.
