Apple slams Microsoft’s Windows 7 with three new ‘Get a Mac’ ads (with video)
Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 09:58 PM EDT

Apple debuted a trio of hard-hitting "Get a Mac" ads today on U.S broadcast and cable networks that target Microsoft's Windows 7.

In Apple's "PC News" spot, "PC" reports that the launch of Windows 7 is causing "Upgrade Fever." People just cant wait to upgrade to their new Macs!

Direct link via YouTube here.

In "Tetter Tottering," a PC sufferer explains that to go from WIndows XP to Windows 7 you have to move all of your stuff anyway, so move it to the personal computer rated #1 in customer satisfaction: Apple's Mac.

Direct link via YouTube here.

In "Broken Promises," Once again, like a used car salesman, PC says "Trust me." When it comes to Windows, Microsoft's promises never end; and they never get realized, either.

Sharpening the knives a little today. WOW!

Oct 22, 09 - 10:06 pm Comment from: RED-411

"Broken Promises" made me laugh.

I wish they had made one that elaborated a little more on the troubles of going from XP to 7, though.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:07 pm Comment from: Phil

So true

Oct 22, 09 - 10:08 pm Comment from: Latin69

Awesome ads.

They all definitely hit home.

PS The girl moving from XP is very cute.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:12 pm Comment from: John

At least you can upgrade from XP to 7! You are SOL if you had a 3 yr old Mac Pro with a PowerPC! LOL. No Snow for you. Hahaha

Oct 22, 09 - 10:12 pm Comment from: iQuack

Ha! Funny! Awesome Job on these ads!

Oct 22, 09 - 10:14 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

Apple is finally moving in the general direction of...
the JUGULAR.

It's about goddam time!

Broken Promises is P-E-R-F-E-C-T!

The people with all their beat up little boxes of stuff is a great image.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:16 pm Comment from: ken1w

(PC) Let's go to a commercial. (Mac) We are a commercial.

Awesome.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:16 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

@John...
You can go back to blowing yourself...
Just leave the poor dog alone, ferchrissakes!

Oct 22, 09 - 10:16 pm Comment from: R2

LMFAO!! "Broken Promises" is the funniest commercial I've seen all year. They need to run that any and every where they can.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:16 pm Comment from: The Real Rob

Brutal. Apple eviscerated M$.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:18 pm Comment from: JadisOne

Simply brilliant!!! They drive the point home well.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:19 pm Comment from: John

Ohh, that last one.... the 80s outfits.... Comic genius!

Oct 22, 09 - 10:20 pm Comment from: ken1w

Wow! "Broken Promises" is even better.

"Windows 2"?

Oct 22, 09 - 10:21 pm Comment from: RED-411

"At least you can upgrade from XP to 7! You are SOL if you had a 3 yr old Mac Pro with a PowerPC! LOL. No Snow for you. Hahaha"

If you're using a computer from the pre-2006 era, it's time for an upgrade.

For the record, a large number of recent PC's (custom built computers and Dells) were either shipped or built with XP. Recent Macs shipped with Intel CPU's.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:23 pm Comment from: RED-411

Oh, and most importantly, if you for some reason can't upgrade, Leopard is still a fine OS. Vista on the otherhand...

Enjoy your bloated OS or ancient OS from the beginning of the 21st century.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:24 pm Comment from: brett

John, there is no such thing as a mac pro with a power pc chip. the first mac pro was intel.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:25 pm Comment from: iSteve

Broken Promises is great, saw it on NBC tonight.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:29 pm Comment from: @ john

When Vista came out, it wouldn't run on a 3 year old PC! So shut up before you say something really stupid...

Oct 22, 09 - 10:30 pm Comment from: arthur

Great commercials. Run them everywhere and frequently. Convert every PC user to Mac.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:34 pm Comment from: Urlow

Ken1w

yes...best line in a commercial yet IMO. Too funny

Oct 22, 09 - 10:38 pm Comment from: ericdano

OMG, these are great. Sock it to Microcrap!

Oct 22, 09 - 10:38 pm Comment from: Bread

Broken Promises was pretty fun to watch, but I think I liked PC News the best.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:52 pm Comment from: MediaXYZ

I have a three and a half year old Mac that runs Snow leopard faster than it used to run Tiger. I'm not sure it would be the same with a PC of the same age upgrading to Windows 7.

Oct 22, 09 - 10:52 pm Comment from: Raymond in DC

John writes, "You are SOL if you had a 3 yr old Mac Pro with a PowerPC! LOL. No Snow for you."

John, I've got a 3 year old Shuttle PC and Windows 7 won't recognize its video and network controllers. So your argument doesn't convince.

Oct 22, 09 - 11:04 pm Comment from: qka

@ RED-411
If you're using a computer from the pre-2006 era, it's time for an upgrade.

Whoa there. You're missing the fact that Macs last nearly forever, working as well many years later as the did the day they were new.

Written on a June 2005 PowerBook G4 I don't plan on retiring any time soon.

Oct 22, 09 - 11:04 pm Comment from: Bartleby

Broken Promises is great, but are we really on Windoze 7 since PC mentioned Windows 2? Assuming that Windoze 3.1 was 3rd in the line, then
4. Windoze 95
5. Windoze 98
6. Winblows ME
6a. Winblows 2000
7. Winblows XP
8. Windoze Vista
9. Windoze 7

So Isn't Windoze 7 actually the 9th (or 10th) iteration of windows or is it the 7th iteration of winblows 3.1?

Oct 22, 09 - 11:14 pm Comment from: ByeTakeCare

These are the best evah!!!!!

Oct 22, 09 - 11:15 pm Comment from: MacSmiley

Apple is focused on consumers. Few consumers ever ran Win2K.

Oct 22, 09 - 11:23 pm Comment from: Ringgo

My glasses fell off I was laughing so hard. I guess it's funny in the way that your old boss fired you and later was sent to jail for favoritism

Oct 22, 09 - 11:27 pm Comment from: Big Als MBP

@ Bartleby,

Where is Windows NT?

Oct 22, 09 - 11:38 pm Comment from: smaugthewyrm

broken promises is powerful. wow.

Oct 22, 09 - 11:42 pm Comment from: Saldin

LOLed with the new commercials. "Broken Promises" is by far the best.

They were saving the hardest-knocking ones for the end...

Oct 22, 09 - 11:58 pm Comment from: Jacqueline S.

Windows 7 is so named, because Ballmer's numerologist told him that the 1+0+6 in Mac OSX = 7.

Ballmer thought it was a lucky number. So, he added the numerals in WinNT 6 point 1.
LOL

Oct 23, 09 - 12:05 am Comment from: doc

"We are a commercial."

HA!!HA!!HA!!

Oct 23, 09 - 12:17 am Comment from: It's About Time

"Trust Me" is the best. Very funny flash backs.

Oct 23, 09 - 12:31 am Comment from: igads

These are funnier then A Flock of Seagulls, Trust me.

Oct 23, 09 - 12:53 am Comment from: Slartibartfast

@ Bartleby

its all just a rounding error...

Oct 23, 09 - 12:56 am Comment from: db

A PC with a mullet. That one had me rolling in the aisles!

And qka, you bought yours a month before mine! July 2005 BTO PowerBook G4 -- it's still going strong, and running Tiger just fine. I see no point in upgrading to Leopard at this point -- I'll just wait until next summer when the educational promo comes out, and get a free iPod! smile Then the ol' G4 will be given to the kiddies as their first computer.

Weather forecast for Redmond:

Continued low flying chairs for the forseable future.

Oct 23, 09 - 01:25 am Comment from: DLMeyer

Good stuff, and it's all clean and straight! Nothing crude, nothing questionable ... pure straight facts. Yeah, chairs will fly. Can you see, now, why politicians HATE a clean campaign? It's a wonderous thing.
Oh, and the computers are sweet, too.

Oct 23, 09 - 01:29 am Comment from: Spark

Got to throw my vote in for Broken Promises. Can't get enough of that one! LMAO.

MDN magic word = "history" --- How appropriate.

Wasn't #6 really called "Windows BlowMe"?

FWIW, it's 65% sardonicism mixed with 35% sarcasm. Give or take.

It's fun. Check into it.

Oct 23, 09 - 03:05 am Comment from: Brulek

Tetter Tottering is the best, followed by PC News. It is such a good add. She really looks like she means it and like she's truly happy (which if she switches to a mac she will be). And Mac looks like he's gonna get some later smile lol. Windoze is such shit.
