Ahead of today's "Let's Rock" event in San Francisco (live coverage), Apple's online store is currently offline, displaying the familiar message that often precedes new product additions:

We'll be back soon. We are busy updating the store for you and will be back shortly.

I didn't know it was ever online. Nobody buys MACs. MACs are too expensive; you can't play games on them or customize them. Maybe MAC is coming to their senses and they'll sell Zunes now. I'll keep my eye on it.

Guess they brought it back up since I have access to the site just fine.

@ Zune Tang

Yeah right... that's a really educated guess.

Sales for Zunes have only reached around 2 million while in roughly the same period, Apple's sales of iPods increased from around 100 million - 140 million.

If steve ballmer were to inherit the company, even he would sell the iPods and dump Zunes... Why waste your resources on the failed concept of Zune (Dog), when you can reap profits from the iPod (Star/Cash Cow)?

"I'll keep my eye on it."

That sure explains a lot!

@ Zune Tang®:

I think you're on to something. Apple's "major product transition" mentioned on their quarterly call is probably going to be transitioning from the iPod to the Zune. I don't know why I didn't think of that until now. smile
