Apple Store Fifth Avenue logo goes ‘red’
Friday, October 13, 2006 - 12:59 AM EST

"Amid rumors that Apple will introduce a Special Edition red-colored iPod nano on Friday as part of Bono's 'Product Red' campaign to fight AIDS, the white illuminated Apple logo hanging inside the glass cube over Apple's Fifth Avenue retail store is now glowing red. iProng staff is currently in New York City to cover Digital Life and took the following photos of the new-red logo Thursday evening, from inside and outside the store," Bill Palmer reports for iProng.

See the photos at iProng here.

In a related article, CBS2 Chicago has an article, photos, and video of Bono and Oprah at Apple Retail Store Chicago on Michigan Avenue here.

Do these guys ever stop innovating? I freakin' love it!

Oct 13, 06 - 12:06 am Comment from: Wil

Red in the morning, sailors' warning, red at night, sailors' delight!

Oct 13, 06 - 12:15 am Comment from: uh

well, apple's are red. perhaps they woke up and realized that there's no such thing as a white, glowing apple.

Oct 13, 06 - 12:33 am Comment from: Hg Wells

Andrew, why is coming out with anything in a different color - innovating? Last I checked, red was "innovated" just a bit before Apple came on the scene. Quite a bit. Will a yellow iPod be there next "innovation?"

Red. Yellow. Blue. Green. Has Apple already applied for trademarks for those new innovations?

Oct 13, 06 - 12:34 am Comment from: Hg Wells

...or patents?

Oct 13, 06 - 12:48 am Comment from: Offensive

Some group will find this offensive and it won't last long. Maybe the Department Store Santa Union.

Oct 13, 06 - 12:53 am Comment from: KenC

Not innovative, but a cool piece of synergy with their newest promotion.

Oct 13, 06 - 02:14 am Comment from: DJ

Deeply cool, and a colour that's missing from the present lineup -- just so long as I don't have to buy one with a signature on it.

Oct 13, 06 - 02:50 am Comment from: SKYLARK

Hg Wells.

Apples are red

That's Eve's apple. I'm doomed.

Oct 13, 06 - 07:58 am Comment from: Follower

The label for the final released Beatles album, Let It Be, featured a red (rather than green) apple.

So Apple Corps is probably beginning lawsuit procedings as we speak.

Oct 13, 06 - 08:15 am Comment from: Monty

Why isn't Bono wearing red?

Oct 13, 06 - 08:26 am Comment from: Angelus520

Monty - He's not wearing red because he's wearing edun - he and his wife's socially conscious clothing company.

Skylark....my turn

Roses are red
And not made of brass,

You're an ignorant ass.

The innovation here is to turn products into something people will want to buy and indirectly give to charity.

Twit....get a life. Better still buy a red iPod.

Oct 13, 06 - 08:32 am Comment from: Qka

It's all tied to the movie "Reds" fianlly coming out on DVD.

Kim Jong-il will love it. Goes with his nukes.

Oct 13, 06 - 09:45 am Comment from: Ampar

ron: And N. Korea is safe from invasion. Because they actually DO have WMDs. I'm sure the self-titled "dear leader" is looking into podcasting. But with a totally different kind of pod and casting.

Oct 13, 06 - 01:53 pm Comment from: twenty apples a day... makes the bear happy

to uh:

well, some apples are red, but most of the apples I see everyday, and I live in the apple production capital of the world (Pacific northwest) are every other color of green, pink, yellow, mottled, two-toned,...and whatnot... and then there is the standard 'red' delicious most Americans are familiar with. I suppose someday they'll come out with some kind of 'white' apple, but chances are it'll be the Japanese (Sony??) who get there first. Oooops....! I forgot. AAPL got there first. I guess I mean the ones you can actually eat... yeah, that's it.

I do think the red apple logo goes well with the hammer and sicle or the red crescent for the world market. Turn it blue and red for the US market, or have it just change colors randomly. That way they can have the 'patriotic' logo, and also have the 'communist' logo, or the 'islamic' logo or whatever works for the consumer. The possibilities are endless. Pale blue and yellow for the northern European market, dark green, yellow and red for the middle and southern European market, with random black tossed in. And of course, give the British the same as the US. In the end it all harkens back to the 'original' rainbow logo from whence it all lept.

Okay, I'm ready to take my pill now... nurse!

Nurse?

Anybody?

Oct 14, 06 - 12:31 am Comment from: BrooklynNYC

Who really cares that the Apple is red? Why is this so friggin' important? The Empire State Building changes it's colors all the time - but the Empire State Building is actually cool! The Apple cube is any eyesore and degrades the architecture of 57-60 Streets.

I love Apple Computers, Inc. but they go a little overboard sometimes.
