Apple supplier Wolfson Microelectronics shares plunge on lack of next-gen iPod deal
Thursday, March 27, 2008 - 08:45 AM EDT "Shares in Scottish microchip maker Wolfson Microelectronics tumbled on Thursday as the company said its products won't be used in the new portable music players from a major customer believed to be Apple Inc.," Steve Goldstein reports for MarketWatch."Wolfson said that its chips won't be used by 'a major Tier 1 customer' in the next generation of players to be launched during the third quarter," Goldstein reports. "Wolfson presently makes chips for Apple's Pod music player."
"Wolfson said that even though it won't be involved in the next-generation device, it 'continues to have a strong relationship with this customer as an important supplier for other high-growth product areas,'" Goldstein reports.
"Wolfson shares dropped 22% in morning action and are now down 63% over the past 12 months," Goldstein reports.
