The Academy can bite me, and then my eternal soul will take a break from guarding the sacred writings of the mighty Hubbard and failing to launch my own studio and fight with them when we die and I'll have the last laugh. Er . . . I'll catch the ads on Youtube. Poor people suck.

The Oscars are for the brain-dead who have no lives of their own. Hollywood has people brainwashed into thinking that whatever these worthless hippies in show business do, somehow means something. They are all a bunch of whiny little pricks.

Other than that, I like them.

iPhone secret revealed!

You will be able to hook a iPhone to a TV to watch a movie just like a video iPod.

iTunes Store on the iPhone is coming with updates to Cingular's (now AT&T;) slow network eventually.

So content could be downloaded directly to the iPhone, but this feature will be delayed upon further revisions along with better camera.

By the way the iPhone is flash memory based, no hard drive.

Smudges are a problem on the iPhones screen, finger caps are being developed to eliminate body oil transfer.

Feb 23, 07 - 11:03 pm Comment from: YankInOz

It will probably be similar to the ad that was reported to be shown during Super Bowl...

If we are to know that there is really going to be an ad on any programme as major as an iPhone ad, then I am sure we will know from an ad agency leak as opposed to Macworld.

No sources were even hinted. ("Hint" a word from Shakespeare - interesting, hmmm).

I for one won't hold my breath - and will be pleasantly surprised if there is one. Of course, I won't see it here in Australia. So, I will YouTube it.

and look for a reference here. smile

Who would have known a little device would make such a big deal in the over-crowded market of the mobile phone industry? I mean besides Jobs and Co. raspberry

If they do advertise during the awards then it will be a colossal waste of money (unless they are getting the time on the cheap). Not to say that no one watches this stupid show anymore but the not so dirty little secret is that this is mostly a Lefty Hollywood love fest rather than any attempt to name the best of anything. Wasn't an Inconvenient Truth nominated for best science fiction show this year? Come on, there is a lot more believable scifi being produced these days, such as Ghost Rider.

"hippies in show business..."
"lefty Hollywood love fest"

You guys have been listening -- and believing -- way too much of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. The Hollywood studios are all run a handful of giant, international media comglomerates, all of which are traded on Wall Street and NONE of which is run by any "lefties." Fox is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and we all know where HE stands. NBC/Universal is owned by GE, one of the nation's largest defense contractors. And no one has ever accused Viacom (Paramount, CBS) or Time Warner (Warner Bros, the CW) of reading from Chairman Mao's Little Red Book.

These are all big companies devoted totally and religiously to the bottom line. If there are a few prominent liberal actors, writers and directors, the people who sign their checks don't share their politics. And in addition to most of senior management, there are lots of actors, writers and directors on the other side, notably Joel Surnow (the creator of "24") and Don Bellisario ("JAG"). George Clooney stands on one side of the political debate; Bruce Willis on the other.

As for the news operations of the four major networks, three are firmly stuck in the middle, with only Fox making its politics obvious. Even MSNBC, which is the latest target of vile, offers Glenn Beck, Tucker Carlson and Joe Scarborough (conservative Republicans all) to offset Keith Olbermann.

If you don't like the Oscars, fine, don't watch. It's a fairly boring show. Then again, so are ALL award shows. But don't believe the "leftist" hype about Hollywood. Most of the people in this biz are known as "below the line" types, working stiffs who don't make a lot of money, don't ever get on camera, and spend more time with duct tape than on the red carpet. So if you're worried that a few actors are too liberal for you, take comfort in the fact the producers, crew and studio bosses are likely evenly divided... just like the rest of the country.

The Oscars? Apple would have had a greater audience during the Super Bowl, as was predicted earlier and never happened. Why would Apple choose a smaller audience? Also what is Apple’s advantage to advertise a “known” whose final product specs and prices are probably still not set?

MikeK: "... of the four major networks, three are firmly stuck in the middle, with only Fox making its politics obvious."

Are you kidding me? 90% of "mainstream" broadcast journalists vote democratic. This is a fact. Repeated pole have been taken which bear this out. Someone who is right leaning might well say that Fox is in the middle because that person agrees with much of what is on Fox. Your assertion that the other 3 main networks and in the middle only indicates to other readers that your politics are in line with theirs. You, of course, being the center of the universe would see them that way. But that doesn't make it true. Don't kid yourself about the major networks. Know thyself first before you judge.

Back on topic, I'll pass on the Oscars and be waiting for the YouTube version myself.

Feb 24, 07 - 02:57 am Comment from: CSWJ

JWSC, Know thyself first before you judge.

Hmm. I'm sensing an evangelical right winger. So watch the FoxSpews and they will be there for you to tell you when and where to act.

If you really think FoxNews is anything left of rightwing wackos. You are truly misguided. But that seems obvious.

Just curious where are your facts, links, that say 90% of journalists vote democratic? And even if they do, that means they *think*, rather than be ditto heads that are in lock step with others.

Another pathetic Fox pawn.

A good place to start. 90% of that audience wil probably have iPhones even before MDN readers...and the point is, they willinfluence an awful lot more.

It worked with iPod, a few big celebs tlking in lifestyle and gossip magazines does a lot to influence the influenceable.

Clever people Apple. And before the new advertising vp arrives too.

Feb 24, 07 - 07:50 am Comment from: LinuxGuy and Mac Prodigal Son

I do not watch the Oscars. I have little use for preening bozos and bimbos with nothing of substance to say. That does not mean that I am against placing an ad at the event. Those with the money and a compulsion for fashion chasing are a legitimate market to court. Should Apple sell to the vain and stupid too? As a stockholder I say, "Hell yeah!"

Feb 24, 07 - 10:23 am Comment from: Mr. Reeee

The Oscars' schmaltz factor is off the charts for my taste.
The last half hour is the only part of the Oscars worth watching.

For the illiterates in the audience:

The Superbowl may attract more viewers, but the Oscars attracts a higher percentage of people earning over $100,000. It also attracts repeat advertisers such as JC Penney and American Express who appeal to that demographic. The iPhone, like the original iPod is an affordable luxury item. Getting it into the hands of people who attend and watch shows like the Oscars turns it into an aspirational item that other people will want.

Most people know who Apple is. Even those who may not be aware of Apple itself and what it does know that an iPhone is coming but there seems to be an expectation that Apple should advertise at each Superbowl. This isn't 1984.

Wrong again, moron. Codeine is an antitussive not an analgesic. "Why?" you might ask. Well, bozo, codeine has to be metabolized in the liver to the pharmacologically active morphine. If you are like me and millions of other people, the liver doesn't metabolize enough codeine as quickly as possible to produce morphine. Do you have any other medical advice, doctor?

Why don't you use your name?

I don't know what you are talking about.
I was refering to my idea that since Rush, an-oxycontin-poppin' blowhard fiend, mentioned that his sides hurt from coughing, and volunteered that he was taking "strong cough medicine", I surmised that he's probably chugging whatever-syrup w/codeine.

“If people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up”

(Rush speaking out against perscription drug abuse. He himself, was apparently simultaneously enlisting his maid for his drug runs).

There, all cleared up now? GOOD!
Have a NICE DAY!

This is my name, prove me wrong!

Of course you don’t know what I'm “talking about”, you're obviously ignorant about pharmacology. Besides, Dr. Dimwit, Tessalon Perls will probably serve as a better antitussive if an opioid derivative is contraindicated or ineffective.

What was your point again?

"He himself, was apparently simultaneously enlisting his maid for his drug runs)."

The word "apparently" in your statement is an admission that what you are actually doing in your post is engaging in libel.

I have to ask, what is worse, getting hooked on prescription pain meds like millions of Americans do every year, or outright libeling someone like you are doing?

I am always amazed at the judgmental hatred coming from the Left in this country. It would be laughable if it weren't so hypocritical.

Feb 25, 07 - 03:56 am Comment from: Always Right

"When caught red-handed living a lie, deflect attention from your personal responsibility and shoot one directly across the bow of those perpetual evil-doers, 'the liberals and the media.'"

DECEMBER 5--Rush Limbaugh illegally purchased hundreds of prescription pills a month and sought a quartet of doctors to fuel his drug addiction, according to search warrant applications unsealed yesterday in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. Investigators executing the searches, which took place November 25 at offices used by Limbaugh's South Florida physicians, accused the radio personality of "doctor shopping," or improperly seeking out practitioners to supply him with an inordinate abundance of painkillers OxyContin, Lorcet, Norco, Hydrocodone and Kadian, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, the cholesterol-lowering drug Niacin, and Clonodine, which treats high blood pressure. Under Florida law, doctor shopping is punishable by up to five years in prison. The affidavits, one of which you'll find below, indicate that authorities began investigating the talk-show host last December after meeting with Wilma Cline, Limbaugh's former maid, and her husband, who told them that they sold Limbaugh "large quantities" of pharmaceutical drugs "over the course of many years."

Feb 25, 07 - 04:57 am Comment from: YankInOz

What does Rush Limblah have to do with Apple advertising while the Oscars are being slept through?

IMHO, who really gives a fat rats ar_se about Rush Limburger - any way?

As the government ad in Queensland says about young people drink driving and drug driving:

"ENOUGH is ENOUGH"

Get over you need to be RIGHT (or LEFT, for that matter)...

Since when is the iPhone a political issue? I, for one, don't give a phuque about the politics of an over-weight over-bearing ar-se who thinks he hs a modicum of intellect because he can berate people for not adhearing to the party line. I am sure he is trembling thr day that Dubya and gang are no longer in charge.

Left wingers have Al Franken - who, by the way, has the courage to put his mouth to the test by running for office. Something lard butt would never do. IMHO - and for the libel guy - if I am expressing my opinion - it really is not libellous.
