Apple to debut new Mac Pro in January at Macworld Expo?
Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - 04:39 PM EDT

"Since I’m pretty sure that we’ll see an iMac and Mac mini update on Tuesday, Nov. 10..., I’m going out on a limb and say that we’ll see new Mac Pros introduced at January’s Macworld Conference & Expo," Dennis Sellers writes for Macsimum News.

"That said, I also think Apple will unveil a completely revamped Cinema Display line (20, 24 and 30 inch models) with LEDs, iSights and built-in speakers," Sellers writes.

Macsimum News' reader "Harvey" begs to differ, "It’s likely to be the other way around… Mac Pro update in November, iMac update at MacWorld."

I'm betting iMac/Mini updates before Xmas... that makes more sense.

Apple should market the Mini for Plasma/LCD owners this year as a home entertainment integration unit.

Well, thanks for clearing that up.

Maybe new laptops...? Or something with Multi-Touch!

Oct 28, 08 - 04:57 pm Comment from: or finally...

or finally that coffe maker i've been promised...

The first guy is right. iMacs in November, MacPro early next year.

While the MacPro is technically close to a new version, they always come out at the beginning of the year and usually it's a once a year thing. The last MacPro came out in January this year, but wasn't actually available until quite a bit later than that. If there is a new MacPro before next year, it would only be because it's completely new tech or some other unusual situation like that.

Can I FINALLY have an iTele that teleports organic materials?

Oct 28, 08 - 05:19 pm Comment from: Cubert

About damn time.

Ocho MacPro?

Apple would probably hear from Chad "I'm Screwing Up Cubert's Fantasy Football Team" Johnson's lawyers.

Oct 28, 08 - 05:21 pm Comment from: MikeR

I think a digital music playback device. Something that is portable, and maybe a little smaller than a boom box.

Oct 28, 08 - 05:23 pm Comment from: Cubert

BillyBob right; Harvey wrong.

Oct 28, 08 - 05:25 pm Comment from: Blodwyn

Well if the next Mac Pro is a dual Nehalem, then it will probably be summer 2009, so it might get announced in January.

Oct 28, 08 - 05:31 pm Comment from: steve516

I say the mini and the pro first - they are the ones that can use the new monitor(s) and the video the most - the iMac is relatively fresh.

Oct 28, 08 - 05:36 pm Comment from: Stenar

Nov 10 is not a Tuesday.

Oct 28, 08 - 05:39 pm Comment from: Shadowself

The workstation versions of Nehalem are supposed to ship before 1 Jan. Thus new Mac Pros at MWSF is probable.

The mobile versions of Nehalem are not supposed to ship before summer 2009. So look for new MBPs (and maybe MBs) at that time.

Jeremy is right.

"The first guy is right. iMacs in November, MacPro early next year."

Oct 28, 08 - 05:55 pm Comment from: Nic

I think I missed something. Where did Sellers come up with November 10th?

Oct 28, 08 - 05:57 pm Comment from: Blodwyn

I don't believe the dual socket Nehalems will be out in time for MWSF

Oct 28, 08 - 05:59 pm Comment from: Waiting...

Ready and waiting for the new Mac Pro. I would buy one today, but being 9 or 10 months into the product cycle of the current Mac Pro, I will wait. Besides, I only upgrade every 4 or 5 years, so I want it to be as FRESH as possible when I do. (Gonna miss that old G5 PowerMac).

Oct 28, 08 - 05:59 pm Comment from: rdbvideo

"a completely revamped Cinema Display line (20, 24 and 30 inch models)".

No doubt all with glossy only screens... for all the amateurs that think they are pros.
hmmm

Oct 28, 08 - 06:09 pm Comment from: Mr. Reeee

rdbvideo...

You're probably right.

I've been waiting, what almost 2 years for new monitors to be released.

Just this morning my trusty 10 year old Mitsubishi Diamond Pro CRT went.... zzzzzzzzt... zzzzzzzzzzzzztt.. zzztttzzzzzttttt... with a little puff of smoke. Drat. RIP

Sorry Apple, Viewsonic's getting my money. Ordered a 26" VP2650wb. Matte screen, 3ms refresh. Yeah, a matte screen.

Oct 28, 08 - 06:12 pm Comment from: Matt

Unibody MBP 17" hopefully (If not sooner)

Oct 28, 08 - 06:20 pm Comment from: MikeK

First. There is nothing newer at the moment to replace the current CPU in the Mac Pro.

Second. The Mac Pro has been updated in January for the past three years.

Oct 28, 08 - 06:26 pm Comment from: ChamFan

Stenar is more right than anybody - 10th November is not a Tuesday.

Oct 28, 08 - 06:47 pm Comment from: Mark

How about new cinema displays with higher resolution? I want new ones with more pixels per inch...

Oct 28, 08 - 07:28 pm Comment from: choices

"That said, I also think Apple will unveil a completely revamped Cinema Display line (20, 24 and 30 inch models) with LEDs, iSights and built-in speakers," Sellers writes.

So, is Apple going to:

1. Launch a whole line of glare-gloss screens, like the current 24" LED Cinema, or:

2. See the error of their ways, and go matte?

Oct 28, 08 - 08:20 pm Comment from: Mini Me

Will buy a mini if they update them...won't if they don't.

BTW, if you cross Mac Mini with Mobile Me you get Mini Me!

Oct 28, 08 - 09:18 pm Comment from: Twenty Benson

I demand a matte mini!!

OK, maybe not... but come on Apple give us the choice of a matte iMac... I've been hanging on to my old iMac G5 for over a year waiting for you to see some sense.

It will be one or the other, but not both, and definitely one will be before the other one, but not the other way around or vice-versa. Unless I'm wrong, then it will be what one or both of them said.

Oct 29, 08 - 01:12 am Comment from: Andrew

Whatever configuration if it uses multitouch screens it better be matte and not gloss. Finger prints show up way too easily with glossy screens. By the end of the week the screen is matte.

Oct 29, 08 - 10:41 am Comment from: NCIceman

This article is just guesswork, not news...

Oct 29, 08 - 11:28 am Comment from: hagar57

Nooo,
you are all getting this wrong. The next thing they'll release is a MacBook3G with Firewire! Think of all the people who pledged to buy one. The first 30,000 units are already sold. LOL
Seriously, my money is on a new Mini (or Nano?), while the iMac will get Nvidia graphics to make the most of Snow Leopard. That makes sense during the Christmas season.

Dec 06, 08 - 03:37 am Comment from: omghai2u

Still waiting on core i7 Mac Pro. Seems like apple could care less about the high end market at this point. Making professional users wait over a year for an update is a little ridiculous.
