Goodbye white iMac, you've been with us for two generations, time for something new.

Apple's consumer devices are all leaving white behind... iPhone, Mac Mini, Apple Tv, iPod nano and now the new iMac! Anodized aluminum is gonna look very sleek on the new iMac. MacBooks are next and of course the 6th gen iPod which I bet will be iPhone colors.

All I can say is finally . . . and I'm slightly hoping that 10.5 will be announced for an early release, too.

Please let it be a stable, early release of 10.5... but that would be highly unlikely since 10.4.11 has been seeded to developers... unless it is a front to cover up the surprise... hmmm.

It sounds more like this was put together quickly to perhaps talk about iPhone numbers. That would combat today's incorrect rumor that Apple is halving the number of iPhones that they are having built.

In a rather understated event, often some very important things are revealed. This is especially so if a current highlight isn't to be cannibalized.

In any case, it's a good thing.

I'm not in the market for a new Mac, I'll just be glad if it will shut up all the people bitching about how Apple doesn't make computers any more.

My kids' iMac G5 looked dated a month after I bought it. Can't wait to replace it.

My dual 2.5 G5 is just snappier but will have a brother when the new Pro with Leopard comes out in...'08?

I agree its time of an Imac upgrade. My Imac 20" G5 is a great form factor- I love that it doesnt' take up any desk space, but white was not my favorite colors. As for speed. It does all I want it do do - for now.

20" - 21" is just about perfect size. 24" only if you are doing page layout or art or something.

Here's hoping it's a conroe-based mini-tower with upgradeable video card. If so, I will buy one ASAP and sell my iMac G5 for whatever some sucker will pay me for it.

A new iMac would be OK too I suppose, but I will never buy another iMac.

Mac mini is due for an update ... it is the only one not on a Core 2 Duo (well mine is ... but did that myself).

My guess is both Mac mini and iMac ... and maybe iWork / iLife.

Offcourse it's the new iGamer that replaces the mac mini.

it's only sensible. They need a gamer platform to make their statement about bringing more games to the Mac true.

i´m in the market for an iMac, though I´d really love to see a succesor to the mac mini that accomodates one (maybe two) 3.5" HD(s), and up to four standard RAM modules.

My eMac G4 started to look dated years ago, soon to be a classic )

Cedric, I like white! Bring on other colors for me to choose from, but white is fine with me. This aluminum thing (gray) is not particularly exciting to me. And I don;t like gray cars either!

New iMacs and a Mac Mini refresh are due... I've been keeping an eye on my local CompUSA and BestBuy for the past two or so weeks, checking their Mac Mini inventory; and they've not had any in stock. I've checked other locations outside of our area, and they too have not had any Mac Minis in stock for that many weeks.. I suspect we'll be getting an updated Core 2 Duo Mac Mini with an an intel x3000 video chipset. I know a whole lot of you have been saying they'll probably kill the Mac Mini, but I say that little thing has a long life ahead of it. I just hope the price points for the damn thing are lowered.

It connects wirelessly to Apple hardware and interfaces will all Apple software.

This would have to be the product transition that Apple CFO Peter Opennheimer alluded to in the release of the company's financial results.

If they come out with a 30" iMac I'm a TAKER!

And thinking about the Mac Mini...what if Apple combined the Apple TV with the Mini? Sort of an all-in-one device that would bridge the price point between the two?

I understand the importance of the Mini, and I also understand the Apple TV and it's future. Since the future is in your living room, why not combine the two machines into one uber-device?

I would love to see a quad core iMac. I want to experiment with programming such a multicore CPU. I know Intel is working on compilers to make parallel programming of multicore CPUs reasonably easy and I sure hope Apple is doing the same. But while I might buy such an iMac soon, I will wait for Leopard before starting this project. Xcode 3 with the new garbage collected Objective C promises to be far easier to program than the current versions of these products.

Lower margined Macs. 15% profit Macs instead of 35% profit Macs.

They just might be going after market share.

Just my take here but I think most of you are wrong. They said "NO iPhone or iPod PRODUCT announcements".

I think Jimbo is closer than most. iPhone production / sales plans and manufacturing status, after all its for MEDIA and ANALYST people. If it were new product information, you would have the big event format.

Apple has something to say and they want control over the MEDIA and the MARKET people. It could be a delay in Lepoard or even Lepoard (sp) going Intel only while G5 systems get an OS 10.4.11 upgrade only. ????

Also, "Seating is extreemely limited." Spin control, not market fanfare. Just my take.

No iPhone... No iPod... Good! It's Mac time at last! The rumored new aluminium iMac? An updated mini? New monitors with LED screens? Or something completely new - maybe an "el cheapo" desktop Mac? Or mayhaps iLife 07/08?
