In the hall there are notices posted that say “Please ensure that your communications with others outside WWDC 2006, including your blogs, do not contain any Apple Confidential Information.” This raises an interesting question. Is information that is presented at a public forum bloggable? I am not a lawyer and I don’t play one on TV, but this seems somewhat draconian to me,” Steve Rubel writes for Micro Persuasion.

Don’t you have to sign an NDA to attend WWDC (os at least some of the sessions)?
If so, then you’re bound by a contract and you just chose not to read it.
Why “draconian” ? If attendees agreed to a non-disclosure agreement then it’s reasomable to prevent them from blogging.
And hey, if it means that Micro$oft can’t rip off features before the release of Windoze [appalling] Vista then I’m all for it.

They’ve warned about it every day since we got here. It’s on signs around Moscone West. As I look around at the thousands of attendees, I wonder, “Are they serious?”
Last night I went to dinner and watched a couple of guys running the Leopard preview on a MacBook and discussing aspects with no regard for Apple’s warnings whatsoever.
I’ve seen things that I assume Apple doesn’t want discussed, stuff that won’t be around for a couple of years, but I’d be surprised if that information wasn’t leaked before the end of the week.
The most important thing I’ve noticed is that there’s actually a few decent looking women here this year! Heh!
How is WWDC “public?”
Some parts are, sure, but some parts are NOT, they are under NDA. No-brainer.
But people violate NDAs and this hurts Apple and helps MS. So Apple has a reminder to cut back on some of the breaches. No-brainer.

There is nothing “Confidential” going on at the WWDC.
This event and demo of the new Apple OS is the biggest collection of empty vapor ware I have ever seen.
Nothing here is new let alone an improvement of existing technology.
At least with the soon to be released Vista we are all going to cross-over into the new world of .NET technologies. IE 7 in Vista will finally put the nail in the coffin of Apple. The new and innovative Windows Live applications will only work on the truly exciting Vista platform.
Buying into the Apple hype is going to leave you with a $3000.00 door stop…

Typically if there is confidential information that is being shared most likely people were given a form to sign that states any information given out here is to be considered confidential and not to be shared outside that event to anyone.
And the copying continues even to this day and it will never end but Apple has to fight it just the same.
Forunately all the copiers to date have done a really bad job so the impact has been minimal.
I am so sick of people saying “we saaw nothing great”. These are the same people declaring “the new Mac Pro better have this and that”. Are you kidding me?! We got a new Mac Pro (which I have one already on order) that sports two freaking Xeons, for an incredible price! And developers are probably pretty excited that Leopard is gonna have some incredible technology built into it. I wish people would stop thinking that Apple’s only reason for being is to constantly impress iPod users and the naysayers. I loved WWDC and I am going to love my quad core Xeon Mac Pro that cost a grand less than a G5 quad. Sorry but I had to vent!

Well, I’m not an attorney (fortunately) but I’ve worked with them lots (unfortunately), and play someone who occasionally has common sense. Could it be that the QuickTime broadcast Apple put on the Web is non-confidential? Could it also be that when Apple pulls developers into private side rooms to discuss secret plans that are protected with confidentiality agreements, than that’s confidential?
The confidentiality clause is great marketing and cheap advertising. Always the showman, Steve makes it all look good.

The billion dollar question is:
What is “top secret” that Apple can afford to just “spring on” developers when Leopard goes GM?
Are all the “top secret” features self contained or “forward compatible” such that developers need not know anything about them?
I mean, any significant GUI change might adversely affect a product under development. …Or any serious structural changes to the filesystem, etc., might break things for an app under development.
It is to do with respect. If Mac developers don’t want to have to be made to sign confidentiality agreements to attend future WWDC’s they might choose today to respect their host’s wishes…
