Apple Web ads describe ultra-thin iMacs, lighter and thinner MacBooks, cheaper Mac minis
Sunday, October 04, 2009 - 10:34 AM EST

"A trio of online advertisements that appear to have been published prematurely by one of Apple's international online stores suggest it's only a matter of days before the Mac maker takes the wraps off of new families of ultra-thin iMacs, lighter and thinner plastic MacBooks, and more affordable Mac minis," Kasper Jade reports for AppleInsider.

"The Netherlands-based Google Ad Sense ads, which can be seen below along with their Dutch to English translations, cropped up on Google.nl earlier this weekend and direct shoppers to the localized version of the Apple Store, where the advertised products are not available," Jade reports.

"Assuming the ads were indeed commissioned by Cupertino-based Apple, they'd corroborate a series of forward looking hardware reports first published by AppleInsider over the past several months. These include expectations of thinner iMacs, redesigned polycarbonate MacBooks with thinner, sleeker enclosures, and speed-bumped Mac minis," Jade reports.

More info and screenshots of the ads themselves here.

Likely, and who else would spend money on those ads?

I plan to buy another 24" by late spring anyway and I knew that fitted in roughly with Apple's product refresh cycle.
Very nice indeed.

Usually referring to period of time by season isn't the best idea on the internet, since what season it is changes depending on location.

I used to work for Apple, so I know some about what I am talking about, Mr. Busy Body.
Plus I was speaking about a rough time frame for your information.
Have a nice day.

I'm hoping that they finally release a 30" iMac...

Oct 04, 09 - 10:27 am Comment from: markdo

struggling...

I have a brutally flawed 4.5 year old dual 2.7 G5 powermac... (loud, hot, power pc chip). Monitor is failing.

Do I need the power and expense of a mac pro? Will an iMac suffice?

Can't you just feel the mounting imminence?

Oct 04, 09 - 10:55 am Comment from: @Mark S

I think @MarkS meant. If you lived in Australia would be different than if you lived in North America.

@markdo

If you are doing a whole lot of video, real music editing, or heavy adobe CS work, then the beast we call Mac Pro is for you.

Other than that, an 24" iMac will do just fine, they've got plenty of power and memory. But I would TRY to wait it out for the speed bumps, if it's not here by Veterans Day weekend then go for what's available. Obviously you know that your mac is going to be a good 5-6 year investment thats worth it. But as I tell everyone else. Buy if you really really need one.

And if there are new Macbook designs with new iMac Design and new mouse and keyboard, I'm pretty sure a special event is needed to boast Apple in the spotlight for their Mac line for the Holiday. All the other competitors are scrambling to make something as attractive as a Mac now a days.

Then he should have said so. Apple's product refresh cycle is about 6 to 8 months, give or take.
Sometimes they follow that schedule, sometimes not.

@markdo

What do you do with / want to do with your Mac?
It all depends on that. Of course it does not hurt to have to much money. I would still by the memory for someplace else. smile

Cant' wait

If you want to make your iMac much faster, other than installing maximum RAM, the best thing I've done is to replace the internal drive with a WD Velociraptor. It's a simple half-hour of your dealer's time to swap out the original.

Other iMacs with the same specs. (other than the drive) seem sooooo slow by comparsion....

The "new, more powerful Mac mini" language is on the current U.S. site, too.
Faster. Greener. Still mini.
The new, more powerful Mac mini. The world’s most energy-efficient desktop computer.

Is everyone sure these are new ads for new machines? Is it possible they're for the existing line of Macs?

Oct 05, 09 - 07:04 am Comment from: clyde2801

I think I heard on a rumor site that the new mac mini was going to have an intel atom chip with nvidia 9400 graphics (the so called ion setup). Did anyone else read or hear this?

@markdo

I faced the same dilemma in the summer mac pro vs imac 24" to replace a g5

I went mac pro, couldn't be happier. It's stupid fast
