Apple wins Apple logo trademark infringement case in China
Tuesday, December 02, 2008 - 10:20 AM EST

"US electronics giant Apple Inc has won a trademark infringement suit against a Chinese corporation that used a logo similar to the US company's distinctive symbol, state media reported Tuesday," AFP reports.

"New Apple Concept Digital Technology Co Ltd, based in the southern city of Shenzhen, was ordered to pay 400,000 yuan (about 58,000 dollars) to Apple Inc, Xinhua news agency said. The case was brought in the northern city of Shenyang, where a court sided with Apple's contention that the Chinese firm's logo of an apple with wings was too similar to its own," AFP reports.

FP reports, "Apple Inc registered the trade name 'Apple' and the apple logo when it entered China's market in 1993 and has exclusive trademark rights to 2013, Xinhua said."

"why is the stock down while the market is up? i can't stand how they're driving aapl down everyday!"

Because Nokia will be selling its new N97 smartphone in six months and one of Apple's competitors (Palm) said they are doing lousy.

Stupid, but that reflect the intelligence of traders these days.

The stock is actually up today; together with the rest of the markets.

Unlike RIMM, which is down big time... what else is new?

"the Chinese firm's logo of an apple with wings "

Boy that is softening the offense. The company's logo was an exact duplicate of Apple's apple logo stuck in the middle of an old Studebaker grill.

Did anyone read the introduction letter on the site linked by "Artist"? That's a good read.

An interesting case, no doubt. But I think it was pretty much expected, since Apple's trademark application for their apple design logo goes way back if you look at the USPTO records online.

I was thinking that SJ wanted that logo on the uniforms of the flight crew on his private jet.

That's not much longer. Then what?

Did anyone read the introduction letter on the site linked by "Artist"? That's a good read.

Yeah, it reads like a typical anti-Mac post on some forum by some juvenile Windoze fanboi.
