‘AppleBerry’ partnership between Apple and Research In Motion?

“Is the day near when you will get music on your BlackBerry and e-mail on your iPod? The idea of an ‘AppleBerry’ partnership between Research In Motion Ltd. and Apple Computer Inc. was floated yesterday by Peter Misek, an analyst with Canaccord Capital Inc., who last year accurately predicted a partnership between RIM and Intel Corp.,” Simon Avery reports for The Globe and Mail Update. “Such a deal would have huge merit because each company lacks what the other provides. RIM wants a firm foothold in the consumer market and Apple doesn’t have a presence in the booming wireless data sector, he said.”

Avery reports, “The two might jointly develop a new device: Apple could create a cellphone combining its iPod music device with RIM’s wireless technology, or RIM might embed Apple’s iTunes music into a future BlackBerry, he speculated. Senior executives at Intel have recommended that Apple work with RIM, Mr. Misek said in a research note.”

MacDailyNews Take: “AppleBerry” certainly is more appetizing than “BlackApple.” Although, “BlackApple” is sort of cool sounding. (both names are already in use in various ways by various companies). And, no, we’re not going to stoop to suggesting the combination of RIM and Steve’s last name.

  1. Senior executives at Intel have recommended that Apple work with RIM

Uh, that’s like telling the great Steve Jobs what to do.

I knew it wan’t going to be long before Intel started throwing their weight around.

Gosh, I wonder how Steve is handling defeat, Mac’s are just Intel contolled PC’s now with a fancy OS.

I guess Intel is going to “recommend” Mac’s use DirectX video cards and sell Vista next right?

FSCK INTEL, FSCK M$, FSCK TRUSTED COMPUTING!!! FSCK FSCK FSCK!!!

  2. Shoot, I’ve been drinking Ripple for years!

The problem is that I hope Apple designs the case, because of RIM does it, it’ll be as ugly as my son’s Aunt Esther, who looks like she was run over by a truck filled with ugly sticks!

  3. Actually the idea of an Apple type Blackberry device is not as silly as it sounds. A friend of mine who loves his little iMate device said he would be very keen to swap if Apple were to develop or co-develop and an equivalent device.

  4. Consider-

Blackberry devices operate off the wireless carriers’ networks, not a special network. Therefore, the devices would be sold through the carriers and Apple would be in direct competition with wireless media downloads. Carriers won’t sell it – they’re investing too much in their own media plans.

Since Apple would have to form their own network, I see Apple developing a wireless device that uses VoIP and provides instant internet and iTMS in an “always connected” manner.

Why design a phone? That’s not innovation. Apple would just be another phone maker. First, I’ll say the “phone” won’t be traditional and when Apple makes a “phone” the Bluetooth will be fully functional. No crippled software. If I can’t sync my phone’s contacts with Address Book and my pics with iPhoto, Apple has just joined the rest of the lot.

  5. Hey, Hmmmm . . .

It does not matter what other carriers are invested in, in terms of their media plans.

When Apple comes knocking, people will listen.

    Why?

Because companies know and understand the loyalty of Apple customers. Whatever apple does the customers follow (and I don’t mean that in a sheepish way even though that sounds very sheepish). It is simply put, Apple’s customers identify with Apple – loyalty. That opens doors.

What may appear as a closed door to you could be realtively easily opened by Apple – they’ve got some pull.

Lots of people want to get in bed with Apple.

  6. I know His Steveness has mentioned publicly that the PDA’s that are on the market do well enough for Apple to stay out.

However, I’ve felt that Apple would like to push .Mac into the market a bit more. I can see some syncing and .mac-ing going on into what ever phone they do. That means you are using your .Mac account for e-mail, you have all of your calendar and contacts with you. I see this as real time syncing eventually but probably not real time at first.

.Mac will, obviously require a media plan for .Mac syncing. If you had a sizeable amount of flash (i mean lets face it HDs days are numbered, we’ll all have iPods with flash soon, which consume much less, highly needed battery power)you could, if you needed, retrieve documets from .mac. And if you don’t have the data plan, iSync will have to do for syncing purposes.

Also look for the new phone to utilze the universal dock adapter to fit in any dock, whether to your computer or Hi-fi or even car. Which means, yes, you’ll be able to use your phone in your car, already wired into the system, the very same as BT phones are wirelessly sync’d with DVD-Nav systems in Lexus and the like.

  8. I hate my BlackBerry because of that stupid scroll wheel on the side. Sure it’s easy to spin but when you have to double-push it all the time to get anywhere? Fsck that. An Apple design would be way better. For now I’m just waiting for the new Nokia E62 so I can ditch this pos BlackBerry.
